Analyzing Feathertail by Brightwing

Brightwing shares opinions and facts about the silver cat that would come to save the Tribe of Rushing Water

Okay, so, most of you know that I have a big thing about Feathertail. The fact that she is so gentle and likable, as well as a true RiverClan warrior and loyal to her littermate, Stormfur just makes me think that she’s awesome. I know that loads of people don’t like her and think she is a Mary-Sue, because she’s just too perfect and that just makes me sad. Because if the warrior series was just about bullies and battles and grumpy cats, lets face it – no-one would read it. I admit, if it was all perfects as well, I would have never bothered to read the second page.

Now then, lets start at the beginning. In the second book in the first series, Fire and Ice, Graystripe fell in the river on the border between ThunderClan and RiverClan. He probably would have drowned, due to him being a thick furred cat, but a cat picked him out the water. A RiverClan she-cat in fact, the daughter of Crookedstar. She was a sleek, soft and thick-furred slender, light silver-gray-and-black tabby she-cat with a finely shaped head, delicate silver the markings, and bright blue eyes. She was Silverstream. Dunn Dunn Dunn (Okay, quit the dramatics, Brightwing). Graystripe, being a young warrior, fell in love, and met her almost every day a short while after that, despite his best friend, Fireheart pleading him to give her up for the sake of the warrior code. But their love was so strong that nothing would stand in their way, be it the Clan Code, the rivalry between the two Clans at that time for Sunningrocks, even that Silverstream was the daughter of a Clan leader, and should know better. Silverstream was defiant. She said-
“You’re obsessed with Clan loyalty. If you could see beyond your nose, you’d realize…there’s a lot more to life than what we’ve got in one little Clan. Graystripe is a great and worthy warrior. If the warrior code can’t deal with this…then maybe the warrior code needs to change. I know you’re worried because you love me. And I love you too. I’ll always be your daughter. But you have to let me choose my own future.” Graystripe too, ended his friendship with Fireheart for a time to be with her.

But this article isn’t about Silverstream, or Graystripe, or their love, and if I carry on rambling on about their tragic story, you’ll get VERY bored. So I’ll keep it short.

Silverstream gave birth to two kits (Stormkit and Silverkit) in the woods on ThunderClan territory. From loss of blood, she died and made Graystripe very sad, but the kits survived. After a while, he decided to go to RiverClan with his kits, and let them grow up there. The pair settled in, but were still very close to one another. When TigerClan began killing the half-Clan cats, Fireheart, Ravenpaw and Graystripe rescued them, and they stayed with ThunderClan for a short while, before returning back to RiverClan.

The two became warriors in Firestar’s Quest. In Midnight, Feathertail is chosen to go on the journey to meet Midnight, but Stormfur came too. She and Crowpaw fell in love, but she heartbreakingly dies to save the Tribe of Rushing water from Sharptooth. Many cats were sad to see her go, including her family, Crowpaw, the cats she had befriended and me! However we see her happy in StarClan, although she travels between them and the Tribe of Endless Hunting.

So overall, she is a great warrior, who remained strong through her changing kithood and apprenticeship and accepted her destiny when she realized that she was the silver pelted warrior. She had a hard time being a kit and apprentice, as she had no real mother and a father that wasn’t loyal to the Clan and only stayed because of her and Stormfur. Greystripe left them just before they became apprentices, so they trained in RiverClan without any close family. You cannot deny that she was loyal to RiverClan, as she was the chosen cat of the Clan for the Journey. Here is what Feathertail said when she was asked by Squirrelflight if she wished that Lionblaze, Hollyleaf and Jayfeather were her kits, in Leafpools’s Wish.
“That was never meant to be. The destiny of these kits begins now and you have the power to change everything, Squirrelflight. Please believe me when I say Leafpool’s kits must stay in ThunderClan.”

I made this article because I was tired of telling people after they say how Mary-Suish Feathertail is. She’s a great cat, who inherited her mother’s determination as you can see in this quote. I have hopefully made you see a different view in things, and though I might not have changed your mind, other Feathertail fans might be happy. Plus it was fun to write! See ya! I hope that it wasn’t too long and boring!

  • I liked Feathertail when she was alive, but after she died she became like Spottedleaf and was constantly in peoples dreams and stuff.

  • Great! Love it!! I love Feathertail and I don’t think she’s a Mary-Sue but she did go all Spottedleaf after she died.

  • This is a great article! I really like the way you typed it 🙂 But you accidentally put Silverkit, when its Featherkit 🙂

    • Yes, sorry! Echowhisper noticed that the first time I sent the article, but I’d already sent it the second time do I couldn’t change it.

  • Eh, I never thought she had a stand-out personality, but I kind of had a soft spot for Feathertail and Stormfur after The Darkest Hour. Interesting article 🙂

  • I don’t think Feathertail or Spottedleaf should be used as stalker cat synanoms.

Lots of people go Feathertail went Spottedleaf.

  • This is a good article, but I don’t agree. Feathertail is a bit too cliché for me, and I do think she is a little Mary-Sueish. But we all have our own opinions 🙂
