Bramblestar’s Storm: The Rescued Kittypets by Silverwing

13525262_1745978222351541_65916787_nHi, I’m Silverwing! I’m brand new to BlogClan and I’ve been reading Warriors for a couple of years now, but I only just finished Bramblestar’s Storm. I wanted to write about the three kittypets in there: Minty, Frankie (now Stormcloud) and Jessy.

{SPOILERS}

-MINTY-
Minty may seem daft and useless to most, but think about it – her Twolegs left abruptly without her because she was asleep, and she nearly drowned in that bathtub before Bramblestar and his patrol rescued her (apparently the BATHTUB got sunk by WATER. The more you know). It’s understandable that she would be apprehensive about everything, from sleeping in a nest of damp moss (which the Thunderclan cats couldn’t even handle) to having to eat freshkill when her soft tummy had had kittypet food for years. Despite this, she helped to rebuild Thunderclan when they got back to the hollow. She particularly helped Daisy in the nursery and Leafpool in the medicine den. It would be cool to see more of Minty in TVoS!!

-FRANKIE-
Frankie was always my favourite, with his calm persona and silent strength. His personality was hard to grasp at. We know that Minty was the typical newbie and Jessy was boldly witty. But Frankie was as cool as a catcumber!! There are probably many reasons why he wanted to stay in Thunderclan. a) He was uncertain of his Twolegs’ whereabouts and had lost his brother and therefore had no family; b) He was touched by Bramblestar’s warrior tribute to Benny; c) He was willing to follow the warrior code and grateful to Thunderclan. Frankie was a complex character and it’s great that we can see more of him as Stormcloud.

-JESSY-
Jessy, who’s just about as calm as the storm that hit the Clans. She reminds us of Squirrelflight – bold, feisty, not afraid to challenge Bramblestar despite him being older than both of them, and the Clan leader no less (on his part, Bramblestar does make kinda dumb decisions at times). And because they’re so similar, it’s easy to see why Bramblestar could’ve loved Jessy, as he said himself. Although it’s not outrightly stated, Jessy was probably also in love with Bramblestar, though it was probably because she tends to hang around him a lot and developed some mild feelings. Squirrelflight knows this, and hence Bramblestar got an #AWKWARD vibe when he spoke to both Jessy and Squirrelflight at the same time. But Bramblestar could never have loved Jessy as much as he loved Squirrelflight, because he would never go through so many highs and lows with any cat but Squirrelflight. Jessy is self-sacrificial and brave. It was unlikely she would return to her Twolegs and she even said that she liked the taste of warrior life. She could’ve chosen to stay in Thunderclan, become a full warrior and maybe even vy for Bramblestar’s love, but she didn’t and chose to leave, for the sake of Squirrelflight and Bramblestar’s relationship. That’s probably a good thing, because there’s no room for Bramblestar’s new love life in TVoS. Jessy’s a very headstrong character, and hopefully we can see more of her maybe helping the Clans in TVoS.

Yah so das it fellow cats! Please give me some feedback in the comments, this is my very first blog post and I’m eager to know what you think 🙂 Bye for now!!

  • I like all three of these characters, Jessy especially. Minty had no clue what she was doing, but she learned to give things a try. Clan life definitely wasn’t her thing, and if I remember correctly she found her twolegs again. So happy ending 🙂

If I had to pick a least favourite out of this three, it would probably be Frankie. I thought he was a bit of a mixed bag; sometimes his character was great, but at some points in Bramblestar’s Storm he was a bit ‘meh’ in my opinion. I’m not 100% happy with him joining Thunderclan, and by the time I had read The Apprentices Quest I’d actually forgotten he existed. Oops, I guess.

Jessy was an amazing character, and she really wasn’t a ‘Squirrelflight clone’ like I’ve heard a lot of people class her as. They had their similarities, but they don’t have much in common. I think Jessy would have been a much better mate for Bramblestar, but I know most people would disagree. She accepted that Bramblestar loved Squirrelflight and moved on. I doubt that Squirrelflight would do the same if she was in that position.

  • Good Job!! I’m fairly knew too!! 🐱🐈🐱🐈🐱🐈🐱🐈🐀🐁🐁🐭🐏🐀🐱🐈🐱🐈🐱🐈🐱

  • Sorry, but I hate Jessie. Frankie, I am not sure about. When we first meet him in the book he is all panicky and frantic but when we get to know him more he is very calm and level headed. Minty I also do not like very much. I will not say why.
But on the other paw, great article!!!!!!!!!

  • While I am skeptical of Minty and Jessy having future involvement in A Vision of Shadows, I don’t find the thought very troubling. I did like the characters, but I’m very satisfied with how their stories resolved at the end of ‘Bramblestar’s Storm.’ Certainly I’ll miss things about them, yet I still think it’s for the best that things worked out this way. Bramblestar and Squirrelflight (mostly Bramble) just needed a (somewhat forceful) nudge to realize that despite everything, they still love each other.

As to the three kittypets, I find it hard to pick a favorite. Franky/Stormcloud was so subdued, kind of hard to notice next to the semi-whiny Minty and the in-your-face Jessy. I did feel for him because of his brother, and I’m glad he decided to stay, but a part of me would have preferred Jessy had stayed. I liked her wit and her feistiness. However, the romantic angle implied between her and Bramblestar irritated me. I’ve always been very much on team Bramble x Squirrel, if such a team exists, and I would have been miffed if Jessy would’ve thrown a wrench into that pairing. However, much to my satisfaction, she kind of was the nudge that the two needed, and while I’m sad she didn’t stay with ThunderClan, I think it’s for the best.

And that leaves Minty. Now, I understand why people would say she was their least favorite. She was pretty whiny and anyone could see she epitomizes the warrior idea of a soft kittypet. However, I think she showed great strength dealing with the uncomfortable situation. She did what she could to help out the Clan that took her in, and I think I’m probably not the only person who felt the absolute joy and warmth of that moment when she was reunited with her Twolegs. I think it’s easy to get caught up in the anti-kittypet and anti-Twoleg mentality when you read a Warriors book, but for me, thinking of that moment reminds me of my own sweet cat, Lucy. She’d always run to me and snuggle just like Minty did, and that joy and love that exists between a cat and her person can be very real, I’ve seen. I’m glad that Minty and her Twolegs were reunited. I wish I could have that same joy with my Lucy v.v

All that is to say, I very much enjoyed these characters, and I’m glad we got this entry in the Warriors series to establish Bramblestar as a leader and to give him some time to be a lovable, in-over-his-head idiot again, because that’s the Bramble I know and love.

    • I think Jessy is gone for good, but I think they invited Minty to visit whenever she wanted (if I’m remembering correctly, I haven’t read BrS in forever), so I do sort of hope she takes them up on it. I sort of doubt she’ll show up again, just with the direction the current arc is going in and how intense it’s getting, but it would be kind of nice to see Minty again and hear how she’s doing. 🙂

    • Yeah. My least favorite of the Three was Jessy. And Im making an article about why. I felt she was a flirt, a show-off & just real annoying. I feel like 24/7 we were getting it shoved in our faces how ‘perfect’ she was!

And when there was danger, it was like of course she saves the day! She was just such a annoying useless character & I only liked her a bit when she gave Squirrelflight a chance to be w/ Bramblestar. But I got to say, people say her character is the best thing ever & its not.🤨🙄
Anyways, great article Silverwing & welcome to BlogClan! I can’t wait for your next article!🤗💝👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎊🎉

  • I really liked the kittys!
I think that Jessy and Minty will make another appearance, though as background characters.

  • My thoughts on these cats:
Jessy- I love her! She helped Bramblestar heal his relationship with Squirrelflight, which is AWESOME!
    Minty-
I really don’t like her. She was whiny, and super annoying about Briarlight.

    Stormcloud-
He’s really cool! And a very chill cat, like you said.

  • I love these cats- especially Jessy! She was so selfless and brave when she gave up her place in ThunderClan and was just amazing and awesome! Another reason I love her is that BrambleXSquirrel is one of my favorite ships and she helped mend their relationship!

The other two are really nice, too. I like Frankie’s easy-going, nice personality, and I love how affectionate and loyal Minty is to her Twolegs.

    Great article! 😀
