The Deal With Firestar by JayJay

So what’s the deal withΒ Firestar?

*Includes some spoilers*

He’s the cat who appeared in the first book, all the way to the Last Hope, and many more in between. With his blazing red fur that turns to fire in the sunlight, strong and caring personality, plus large and ever growing family and Clan of cats, what’s not to like?

But that’s just it. Many people find him to be one of their least favorite Warrior Cats and here’s why:

This cat has been in the spotlight for a whole series, Super Edtion, and even afterwards, still leaves a large and everlasting impression on the Clan. Some people find him too involved. He’s in countless prophecies, and even if they’re not about him, he usually ends up involved in them anways.

Examples include:

– “Fire alone can save our Clan.”
This was definitely all about him.

– “Before there is peace,Β blood will spill blood, and the lakeΒ willΒ run red.”
He wasn’t even in this prophecy and yet, he was there! He caused the fight and the blood spilling which fulfilled the prophecy.

– “There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.”
It was given to him and later included him when it updated to have a fourth cat.

Many people find him too special and too involved in the other Clans. Always going to help them, even when they refuse his help, taking in kittypets, etc.

But through all of this, he has been involved in and caused his fair share of problems. One example is when he and Greystripe fed food to RiverClan.

To summarize- He may seem purr-fect to some and be their favorite Warrior Cat ever. (*cough* me *cough*) But to others, he will always be known as a Gary Stu.

“Loyalty is what matters, and that exists now, not in the past. Loyalty must be prove every day, in each piece of fresh-kill brought back to the Clan, every claw mark on our enemies, every patrol, every training session.”

  • I don’t think he is a Gary Stu. He doesn’t follow the warrior code a lot of the time. I don’t love him because he has no respect for boundaries and is always trying to pry into other cat’s business.

  • That quote he said was about it doesn’t matter who your related too. It just matters where your loyalty is. He is no Gary Stu, He’s made mistakes plus how do you know what he was thinking in the series past the first one. He may have had trouble making decisions. Also if you think Dovewing is Mary Stu I disagree with that too.

  • Now that I think about it, he is really involved in almost everything, Some how, you shed some light on me how he really is, even though he just wants to help. He does have his flaws, and I never thought of characters from Warriors being Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus untill I started watching things on Youtube. Thank you for this article.

  • Nice article! I have mixed feelings about Firestar, but he isn’t really as perfect as he seems. His ‘peace is always the answer, let’s just go and give ShadowClan a hug instead’ approach was frustrating at times, but you can’t blame the guy for trying πŸ˜›

  • Good article! I, for one, do not see Firestar as a Gary Stu, but I understand why people might. There’s a conception in people’s minds these days that being the object of many prophetic destinies and having some special power or focus in a story makes a character “too important” or “too perfect,” but the reality is that everything Firestar did, he did with the help of others, and he certainly didn’t always do the right thing. Firestar was noble, he was kind, and ultimately he was able to see past Clan boundaries because he knew what it was like to be outside them. In my eyes, his character made perfect sense.

  • I disagree with Firestar being a Gary Stu. While yes he was involved in a lot of prophecies let’s think of another character often involved in prophecies: Tigerstar. Tigerstar caused all the events that led up to Firestar being needed to unite the forest and defeat BloodClan. Tigerstar was the one goading his sons to take over the clans, and the power of three were born to stop the Dark Forest led in most part by Tigerstar against the clan. Heck, Firestar only died when he got rid of Tigerstar for good.
So I blame Firestar involvement on Tigerstars involvement in some prophecies.
Also I feel you’re forgetting that Bramblestar also was featured as a main cat in a series and got his own super edition and played a sizable role in books that came after. But we haven’t seen much of Firestar since his death in Last Hope.
Firestar was the main character we followed through 6 books the FIRST 6 books, so of course in the series that followed he would play a role till he died taking out his nemesis for good.
Now a Gary Stu is a character that’s perfect, everyone loves them, and they can do pretty much anything. Firestars personality is a cat who desires peace, to take in and help those in need and try to solve problems as diplomatically as possible. That often clashes with cats who wish to retaliate against clans like WindClan and ShadowClan. He’s conceded territory to ShadowClan that some said made him look weak, he worked to separate Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw when he was supposed to let them work together.
Firestar has made mistakes, he’s frustrated other characters with how he acts at times (Mousefur got fed up with him refusing to name a new deputy after Graystripe was taken), Sandstorm and he got separated after arguing because Firestar couldn’t figure out his connection with Spottedleaf was upsetting his mate. He’s also fluctuated between being the underdog and respected particularly during the first books.
The thing is Firestar is a noble cat and a cat who desires peace rather than fighting and bloodshed, it makes him a good leader but some begrudge him and in turn thunderClan for it, we aren’t able to see it very often given that we’re only seeing ThunderClans perspective most of the time in the books.

  • Not to be mean to anybody, but Firestar is my least favorite character. Twigpaw, Violetpaw, Tigerstar, Brokenstar, Jake, Ravenpaw, Tallstar, Yellowfang, Jayfeather, Feathertail, Hollyleaf, and Tigerstar are all better than him to me. He’s too in the spotlight, like this article says, to me.
