The Case for Thistleclaw, by Deerkit

Contains spoilers for Bluestar’s Prophecy!

A lot of people have been wondering why Thistleclaw went to The Dark Forest instead of StarClan. I personally have two theories. The first theory is that Bluestar chased him from StarClan to The Dark Forest. This definitely seems like something Bluestar would do. My second theory is that he was genuinely a bad guy.

In Bluestar’s Prophecy, when Thistlepaw’s on a patrol with Bluefur, he calls out multiple false alarms, and could have endangered his Clanmates by frightening them and, if his Clanmates didn’t believe him about the dog from so many false alarms, they would have been in some serious trouble. After he becomes Thistleclaw, he becomes a good father, loving Whitekit and his mate with all his heart, until Snowfur dies. He blames Bluefur for her sister’s death, threatens Bluefur not to look at her own nephew, and starts training Whitekit dangerous battle moves from a very early age. Then, when he is given Tigerpaw as his apprentice, he orders Tigerpaw to attack a harmless kittypet, and Tigerpaw willingly attacked the black cat. In The Dark Forest, he trained to be a murderer, and worked hard to learn moves that severely injury and kill, even teach someone else his gruesome knowledge. If he had become deputy, his murderous ambition would have killed many cats. And after he died in a RiverClan battle, and went to The Dark Forest, he trained many cats, including Breezepelt, Sunstrike, and Ivypool, to be as murderous and bloodthirsty as him. He also killed Antpelt, his own “Clanmate.”

He murdered, injured, and endangered his way to an insignificant demise. He could have been an amazing cat, mate, and father if he hadn’t been so bad-tempered and bloodthirsty. Maybe if Sweetpaw and Snowfur hadn’t died, he wouldn’t be so awful. But he was, from when he was an apprentice to when he was a Dark Forest warrior. That’s why Thistleclaw was worthy of The Dark Forest.
