Why You Shouldn’t hate Millie! by Delta

Delta defends Millie.

Millie is an overall descent cat. She has a mate and three kits and in the latest books, is an elder. But what people don’t understand is that Millie supplied more than Silverstream. She lasted longer. Graystripe hit up Silver saying “Hey let’s break the warrior code!” While Millie actually gave up slouching with a Twoleg to go live with Gray. That’s more dedication to her mate than Silver ever gave. Did Silver leave to join her mate? No.

Silver and Gray’s kits;

Stone even DIED for their kits. They would just be better off dead because then they’ve would’ve died anyways. Storm left to the tribe and Feather gave her life up for the Tribe. All those two think about are the tribe. They have no contribution to RiverClan or ThunderClan once so ever. They just hit up with those mountain folks all their life until they die.

Millie and Gray’s kits:

These kits lived longer and had a somewhat successful life. Other than Briar messed up her legs, Blossom made a friend and that friend assisted her to a better life after the Dark Forest war. Bumblestripe has a life goal for Dovewing to be his mate and to have kits with her. Briarlight had a luxuriate life. But then when it comes to Millie, people look at her with slim eyes and vows to kill her.

Neglect:

Let me say something. Millie didn’t neglect Blossom. “WHAT?!!?!!” You may scream. Let me explain. Saying “Blossom, you need to grow up!” Isn’t neglect. As stated here ( http://erinhunter.katecary.co.uk/the-case-of-millie-by-kindheart/comment-page-1/] )Bumble and Blossom are warriors. Warriors are old enough to rely on their own than lean on their mother’s shoulders. Who needed their mother more? Briar. Blossom doesn’t need her mother anymore. She doesn’t need Millie for her milk, she doesn’t need to learn to eat or walk. Blossom doesn’t really need Millie anymore.

Loneliness:
When Silver died, Gray was heartbroken and sad because his mate is in StarClan. But moons later, he gets a new mate named Millie. The community becomes livid and goes into a rampage because Graystripe moved on. People do this. A wife/husband will move on when their spouse is dead. The cats wouldn’t be any different. Would you A. See Graystripe grow up happy with Millie. Or B. See Graystripe become depressed and be lonely his whole life.

ou can’t just hate Millie because she replaced Silverstream. Silver died and someone can move on in. You can’t just hate Millie for “neglect”. She never neglected her kits. Like I said before, she is a decent character. She is hidden underneath her kits and Silverstream. Millie just made some mistakes with her litter. That’s all.

  • Yep. Insulting and yelling at your kit in front of her friends, family, and peers is not hurting or bullying. Definately. Sure.
Seriously? Feathertail was chosen to be in the prophecy! Also, Silverstream had to consider her father! Millie had no one but her twolegs that she didn’t really care about. Plus, Millie is yearning for the soft life. She freaked out ablut how the cutter was better than Jayfeather. She’s never going to be half the cat Silvertsream was.

    • I agree. Silverstream didn’t even have enough time to make the decision to be with graystripe. She died for her kits, for starclan’s sake! What more could you ask from a mother, when she made the ultimate sacrifice?
Also, in mothflight’s vision, when Mothflight has kits but has to attend to her medicine cat duties, Slate tells her the clan will look after her kits, just like the clan did with hers. So that means Briarlight was meant to be looked after by the clan, not Millie. You forget, but Briarlight was also a warrior, and she had the clan to look after her. They all did.

    • The last part you said was true, because she’s better than Silverstream. Silverstream was bratty and spoiled.

      • No she wasn’t. Silverstream was a caring cat who risked everything – her status in the Clan, etc – to love and be with Graystripe

        • Silverstream thought she could get everything she wanted just because her dad was a leader. She even begged him to change the warrior code.

          • She never begged him to do anything! It was Crookedstar’s decision to favor her. I don’t blame the gwo for loving each other very much. Silverstream has no mother and her siblings died. Crookedstar lost his mate and two daughters. It’s only natural for him to coddle Silverstream.

        • Millie risked everything going on a journey to be with her love-graystripe.
I don’t like how Millie “ignored” her other kits to spend time with briar, but I don’t think that half the fandom should hate on her. She was probably stressed out and worried half to death her kit would die. I don’t like silverstream much- she seems like the typical Disney princess- her mom died, her father is leader, and she has so much love drama, and tragic dramatic death. I feel like blossomfalls anger towards briarlight was because of the absence of anyone actually like…loving her. Bumble had dovewing and was rapped up in that. Graystripe never really showed any interest in hanging out with His kits and tbh I feel like the thing with Millie blossom and briar was a fern dust spider thing. When briarlight was paralyzed, she basically became a kit again, making by blue and blossom the older siblings. It happened to spiderleg. But that’s just my opinion.

          • Agreed.

But the thing with Blossomfall is that she doesn’t seem to have respect for Briarlight. She hates her, and made fun of her injury before going into the tunnels.

            • where does it say she made fun of her?
It annoys me when kittypets are judged because they miss what they’re used to. It’s not their fault the soft life is all they know.

                • Okay. On Graystripe’s page it says that he will chose Silverstream. Also, IDK when, but Graystripe was talking to Jayfeather in PoT once. Jayfeather went into his memories and saw Silverstream. He asked Graystripe if he loves the she-cat. Graystripe nodded. He didn’t say, “Once,” he said, “I do”

          • So you’re saying she’s a disney princess because of her dad’s rank!?!? WTDF? Her dad earned that rank. No cat should be judged based off of their parents.

    • Silverstream is at LEAST ten times better than Millie.
You sit and weave your lies, like a fox trots through the night.

  • Agreed!
There’s also Windstar. She scolded Moth Flight all the time, but it was later confirmed that she yelled at Moth Flight because she loved her, like with Millie and Blossomfall.

    • I almost see where you’re coming from wrt Windstar, but I must say that while that may explain her actions it doesn’t really justify them, and it doesn’t erase how deeply Moth Flight was hurt by her, well-intending or not.

        • Windstar never banished Moth Flight, she just yelled “You’re a danger to the clan”.

            • Actually, Ebonypaw is right. In Secrets of the Clans, Windstar is shown banishing Moth Flight, but DOTC proves a lot of SOTC to be either wrong or simplified/exaggerated versions of what really happened. In Moth Flight’s Vision, Windstar never banishes Moth Flight, she just yells at her for never paying attention and putting her father in danger, and says maybe she’d be better off not being in the Clan or something like that. Moth Flight takes it to heart and leaves the Clan for a while, only coming back after she’s had her vision from StarClan, and Windstar had been worrying about where she’d gone the whole time.

      • Moth Flight was young when Windstar yelled at her, so it’s natural that Moth Flight would feel hurt. Blossomfall however should know not to break the warrior code. Thinking that Millie hates her for getting yelled at once is ridiculous. What’s even worse is that Blossomfall actually said she hated Briarlight.

        • Millie didn’t just yell at her, she belittled her and degraded her in front of the whole clan “Where have you been?’ Millie snapped. ‘You’ve wasted a whole morning when you could have been hunting!’ Glancing back at Briarlight…she added, ‘Your sister would give anything to be able to help feed the Clan!….Millie drew her lips back in a snarl. Her eyes were full of bitterness…”(Hunter 254-255). Omen of the Stars- Sign of the Moon. Millie was flat out mean here. Bringing up Briarlight’s condition was inappropriate.

Millie didn’t even care that Blossomfall was limping and had a cut on her head. Yelling at an injured person can cause the injured person stress and lead to them harming themselves. Earlier that morning when Hazeltail told Millie, Blossomfall looked ill, Millie responded with apathy.

It is also implied that the relationship between Blossomfall and Millie had been toxic for a while “Do you think Millie will miss me?”(Hunter 245)-Omen of the stars -Sign of the Moon. People don’t get to that type of mental state after one event. Also prior to Biarlight becoming paralyzed, Blossomfall did not have any insecurity issues. “Maybe Millie loves me, when she remembers that she has more than one kit.”(Hunter 246). Omen of the Stars Sign of the Moon.

Who wouldn’t feel unloved if every time they interacted with a family member that family member yelled at them.

  • HowdareyouspeakofFeathertaillikethatI’llclawyourfaceoffMypoorFeatherbabe*cries*
Personally I don’t agree with you on the Blossomfall part because she didn’t just fuss over Briarlight than her other kits but scolding Blossomfall in front of all cats in the Clan and making her feel unloved is sort of too harsh. Even if you are older, and your mother starts to scold you on everything and make you think that your sister is better than you, you’d still feel hurt, little or a lot. Especially if you are someone that wants love. But still, I don’t hate Millie and great article!

    • Every parent scolds their kid though. It’s no surprise Millie did, especially when Blossomfall deserved it.

      • it’s a problem, though, if the only interaction you ever have with some of your kids is to chastise them, and then very transparently favor the other one. Yelling and public humiliation aren’t healthy at all.

      • I know, but she could have a “private conversation” with her.

      • She didn’t have to yell at her in front of everybody! She could have taken Blossomfall aside, like Mufasa does to Simba in The Lion King.
You sit and weave your lies, like a fox trots through the night.

  • On the Millie’s wiki page it states, “Kate confirms that Millie still loves Blossomfall and Bumblestripe and wishes Briarlight weren’t injured so she could spend more time with them.” Which, you gotta admit, is really sweet. Also, I prefer Millie fussing over Briar than being a Rainflower.

  • Great article!

These are some very good points you made in this article^^ 🙂 Some I never really thought of when defending Millie and bashing Silver 😛

  • Great article, but I don’t really like how you said about Stormfur and Feathertail that they would be better of dead and that is a bit rude to say and that Stormfur is still alive with kits now also Feathertail and Stormfur didn’t just care for the Tribe alone they cared both of ThunderClan and RiverClan the same, Stormfur in Sign of the Moon he asked how RiverClan and ThunderClan were and was respectful of when he heard of Leopardstar’s death. Plus all of the cats of the Clans respected the Tribe and during the journey all cats wanted to help the Tribe, since Feathertail realized she was the sliver cat she had to do what she was destined to due and Stormfur stayed with the tribe because he fell in love with Brook and he was exiled and returned to RiverClan then Hawkfrost did his evil little plan and he stayed with ThunderClan till he and Brook were able to return and they did when they beat some rogues. Also I don’t hate Millie, but I don’t like her, but Millie shouldn’t be hated harshly. I like Sliverstream better for a mate because at first she disliked him, but fell in love with him and had his kits but the reason she didn’t leave was that the RiverClan warriors did not know including ThunderClan and she couldn’t just leave her Clan in a jiffy and I know breaking the Warrior Code was bad, but when Sliverstream and Graystripe loved each other breaking the Warrior Code that showed true loyalty towards a mate even if it’s bad. The ultimate guide also said that if Sliverstream would of survived her kitting she would of maybe left RiverClan to join ThunderClan. But great article you put some good thought in to it. 🙂

and yes Feathertail is one of my favorite top ten cats on my list. 😉

    • Graystripe also left Thunderclan to be with his kits, but he wasn’t happy in Riverclan. The same would probably be for Silverstream since her father and best friend were there.

  • True!
Millie may have put most of her attention on Briarlight, but I’m sure most mothers would be anxious over their own injured kit!And she used to be a kittypet, for StarClan’s sake! She’s done a great job adjusting to Clan life and is a brilliant warrior.
I completely agree with the article

    • Agreed, especially since you see Millie change in the books.

Look at Bramblestar’s Storm, in the beginning of the book she’s worried Briarlight would drown, but then later she cares for the kittypets the rest of the book. Millie is realistic, because she starts to accept Briarlight is crippled, but she’s still going to be okay. And if you’re going to hate Millie about one scene, then you should hate Graystripe even more for actually being a neglectful father.

      • Sure, sure. She cared more for those kittypets than she ever cared for Blossomfall or Bumblestripe.

Graystripe was negectful to Briarlight. He cared about Silverstream’s kits more than his own life. He cared sorta about Blossomfall and Bumblestripe. But Millie doted on Briarlight and Graystripe realized that if he doted too, his other kits woukd feel worse.

I hate Millie for a lot of scenes. Not one.

        • Agreed
But you can’t really blame Graystripe for caring more about his first mate’s kits. He loves Millie, but that doesn’t mean he loves her kits.

          • Yeah. I feel like he wanted to love all hks kits equally – his first litter had one parent, so why should his second have two?

      • If Millie has time to comfort Minty, I think she has time to have a conversation with Blossomfall and Bumblestripe.
You sit and weave your lies, like a fox trots through the night.

  • Millie being a parent isn’t the only thing people don’t like about her. She barely dedicates to the Clan- if you want to join, sure, but you can at least get a warrior name. That’s like having a “paw in each life”.

    • Having a name doesn’t mean loyalty, it’s actions. Millie pretty much proved her loyalty to Thunderclan by bringing Graystripe home. She also went on two patrols in Bramblestar’s Storm and led one in The Forgotten Warrior. She even fought against the Dark Forest.

    • What’s so wrong with not taking a warrior name? She hunts and fights for the Clan just as much as any other warrior. Why would her name matter so much? Brook, Boulder, and Daisy never took warrior names, but no one ever acts like they weren’t good members of their Clans for it. And Stormfur never took a Tribe name, but he’s no less loyal to the Tribe for it. It’s just a name, it’s not a big deal. She should have the right to keep the name that her house folk gave her if that’s what she really wants.

  • In my opinion Millie is just-ugh. And Why are you including Greystipe’s kits? Thats not important what so ever.
Anyways… Millie’s character never played a great role. Sure she helped Greystipe, but that’s it. I’ll give it to you that yeah she’s loyal to Thunderclan, but that’s no excuse for her horrible behavior. She shut out Bumblestripe and Blossomfall because she was obsessed with watching over her crippled daughter. She was one of the reasons why Blossomfall joined The Dark Forest. Also, her character shaping- it just never happened. The only reason the Erin’s included her in the books was because they needed someone to save Greystripe from his despair, but that’s all she did. She DID neglect her kits. Yeah they should live independently, but barely listening to them and always looking out for Briarlight is what people call neglect. Briarlight was safe with Jayfeather and occasionally Bumblestripe, she doesn’t need anyone else by her side only to occasionally bring her some prey if she’s tired. Millie just didn’t play a too important role. The Erin’s could have implanted a different version of Millie, a better one for that cause. I do understand that you would like to keep a name you were given to at birth, but honestly, mostly everything else in my opinion was just annoying for me to read about.

    • You basically said my thoughts 😛
You sit and weave your lies, like a fox trots through the night.

  • Millie did neglect Blossomfall, even adults need to be loved by their families. Most psychiatrists would agree that love is a basic need. The cats in the Warriors series are like people, they are interdependent. People need to know they are loved by their love ones. Google adult-parent relationships. Millie was very cold and unloving towards her daughter. She degrades her, is apathetic when Blossomfall comes home hurt.

If anyone needs to grow up it is Millie, she needs to be more respectful and stop taking her grief out on her clanmates. She yells at Jayfeather most of the time. She humiliated Blossomfall and took her grief out on her. In Bramblestar’s Storm, she tells Bramblestar that if he lets Briarlight die, she’ll never forgive him. This puts unneeded stress on Bramblestar who already has enough on his paws. It was counter-productive to getting her daughter to safety.
Prior to the whole Briarlight drama, Millie disrespects Squirrelflight when she corrects Blossompaw.

Stormfur and Feathertail made many contributions to the Clans, they went on the Great Journey to find a new home for the Clans. Feathertail was a good friend to Leafpool, Squirrelflight, Twanypelt, Crowfeather and Brambleclaw. Feathertail also plays a major role as a Starclan cat, she visits Leafpool in a dream to warn her of danger coming to the Riverclan. She is also the one to help Leafpool guide Willowpaw in her medicine cat training, so she can learn about Starclan. Stormfur spent some time in Thunderclan and was a loyal warrior during the time he was there. In the Tigerstar and Sasha Manga, when Sasha brings her kits to Riverclan Stormfur is on patrol. They probably do more than that, but the books don’t center on Riverclan so they don’t get a chance to shine. I don’t see how Blossomfall and Bumblestripe’s goals/contributions where greater than their older half-siblings. I can think of many cats who played an even lesser role than Feathertail and Stormfur. What about Foxleap, Icecloud, Toadstep, Hazeltail, and Mousewhisker, would you consider them pointless.

    • Millie definitely needs to grow up! And yes, Love is an important need <3
