Medicine Cat Elections, Day 7: Voting Begins!

Welcome back, folks! In case you missed it, we’re holding elections to find the new Medicine Cat of BlogClan, the new representative of our community!

It’s finally time to begin the first round of voting!

You have up to three votes which you can use to vote for the candidates who you think are best fitted for the role. At 12am UTC on 10th July, voting will close and we will prepare the final round of voting in which the three candidates with the most votes will be placed head-to-head.

Place your votes wisely and carefully, and enjoy the feeling of democracy!

If you want a recap on all the candidates, click here to see an archive of the hustings posts from the last few days.

Before the poll, the current Medicine Cat, Kat, has a speech to share with all the voters and candidates. Listen now to her sage and wise words, and think about the candidates you want to vote for:

I’m afraid that this isn’t as much a question for our candidates, but more a little reflection from a former medicine cat to our candidates and voters this year. Unfortunately, I don’t think my opinion is too valuable regarding each of our candidates because of my absence for these past few months, but I’d like to just briefly talk about what I think we should all keep in mind while voting and running, or just going about our business. Just a note that I wouldn’t like to make it seem as if my opinion is any more important than anyone else’s; instead, I’d like to add to everyone else’s general ideas and all.

There’s a lot of things I wished I had done better while medicine cat. One of which is recognizing from the beginning how serious a responsibility it is. As a medicine cat, you have to make sure that your face (or, better said, icon) is the first that all new members see. That means that you should not only be very organized about the new members page (yup…my mistake…) but also willing to take the time to greet every new member in a unique way. Not just “hello! I’m _____, your medicine cat!” Instead, “Hi, I’m ___, and I noticed your icon was about Hamilton. I love it, too! Who’s your favorite character?” or something like that but different for new members. Keeping up on this is really, really difficult. You have to be willing to acknowledge that as your responsibility. I was almost going to resign as medicine cat at one point because I felt so awful about my inactivity.

You have to also take the Hug Page as your own, not formally. I was really good about doing this in my first months as medicine cat, but was lacking in the latter. You have to be able to sympathize with people. There’s no way around it. You have to be able to just listen, and respond with “that’s awful about your school day!” and know when to say “that’s really serious, I think you should talk to a parent or trusted adult about that.” That sounds really odd, I know, but it’s just important that you’re able to understand that while you can be good at understanding people and all, you aren’t a professional and shouldn’t be diagnosing someone’s mental disorder, y’know? That can be dangerous. I’d recommend that you almost always encourage someone going through trouble to reach out to someone they love, but also BE that someone at the same time. This can also be very difficult. If you don’t want to accept this as your responsibility, FULLY, then rethink.

This is directed at everyone now. Make sure that you’re running (and voting) for the right reasons. If you would run for this as well as run for deputy if you lose or any other offered position, reconsider. This is a specific task. If you just want a title, don’t do it. You can be just as well-loved and respected by working your way to a senior warrior who contributes often and positively to the blog. And voters, fellow BlogClanners, kiddies, please know that this is not a popularity contest. If there’s one person who you always see working tirelessly but isn’t your friend while someone who is your friend hasn’t done anything, vote for the prior. This isn’t about someone who is friendly when they need to be, or active only one day of the week, or tells really funny jokes, this is about someone who has continuously shown the correct character and work ethic over time. Please examine your vote for the long term.

Lastly, buddies, my loves, my angels, it has been an absolute pleasure getting to be the medicine Kat. If there’s anything I’ve noticed over time, it’s that this place is a team where, at our optimal place, we are loving, supportive, and kind to everyone that has been here and is to come. Elect someone who will take us to that place.

Sorry for such a speech. I love y’all.

Well done to each and every one of the candidates; you’ve worked hard this past week, and you have all done an amazing job. I’m so proud of you all, I wish you all the best of luck. You’ve done incredibly, regardless of outcome.

Have fun and vote with your heart!

  • Good luck all you canidates! (Don’t think that’s how you spell it. This is why I need auto correct…) And don’t be disappointed if your not chosen, because you can always run again! (Now to figure out what to say as my speech for med cat 2019. XD)

  • Hi everyone! I hope you’re having a fantastic day, whatever is going on. I’m just popping in to repost my campaign 🙂

    Who am I?
Well, a lot of you already know me, but I’m Wavesplash, a senior warrior. I’m Breezey’s former apprentice and now I’m Stoatie’s mentor, I’m the official Queen of Canon Correcting, I’m a very avid roleplayer on the wiki, and I’m active all around each and every day.

Why should you vote for me?
Each and every contestant would make wonderful medicine cats and I completely understand the struggle of trying to choose. But I think you should vote for me because I’m active, dedicated, friendly, kindhearted, fun, compassionate, positive, optimistic, ambitious, and I speak my mind. I’m very stubborn and determined and I don’t know when to quit, so if you need me to get something done I will get it done, no matter how long it takes. I’ll do my very best to make BlogClan the best it can be for each and every one of you.

What do you plan to do/fix as medicine cat?
Well it’s hard to say because the problems we have now, like the Spam Monster and edit time, will most likely be resolved by October and new problems will take their place. However whatever problems we may have, I’ll do my best to work with the BlogTeam and you guys to get it fixed as soon as possible. I’d like to try and slide in a Poll Tsar, like Dawny used to be, with BlogClan-wide polls and stuff. Icy and I are already working on a monthly fanfiction contest to go with the monthly art contest, and I’d like to add little pop-up messages every day with some kind, positive, inspiring messages to make you smile. 🙂

Do you have a medicine cat apprentice in mind?
I have two people in mind for medicine cat apprentice should I become medicine cat. I have yet to ask either of them, because I don’t want to ask and then not get into the finals and give them false hopes. They’re both running for medicine cat and I have no doubt that both of them would make both amazing medicine cats and medicine cat apprentices. It would be an honor to have either of them as my apprentice, medicine cat or not.

How active are you and how long have you been on BlogClan?
I’m very active – I’m on BlogClan every day! Except for when I’m at sleepaway camp (where technology is banned), there’s never been a day where I’m not on BlogClan for some amount of time. There have been days where I’m not on the wiki simply because it’s harder to access than BlogClan, but those days have been scarce and again, except for sleepaway camp, it’s never been longer than four or so days.
July 1st, the very first day of elections, was my nineteen month Claniversary. So for those of you who are too lazy to do the math (which I completely understand), that means I’ve been a member of BlogClan for a roughly a year and seven months, just over a year and a half.

How active are you on the Hug Page?
Very active. I’m on there pretty much every day. People say I’m very good at giving advice, and I’m also very optimistic and positive. I believe in giving people second chances and always looking for the best in people (which is very easy with you guys, because you’re all amazing <3). One of my favorite things ever is when I give someone advice and then later they post about how their problem got solved and my advice helped in solving that problem, whether it was all me or just a teeny tiny portion of my advice. That makes my day, every time. Another thing I recently started doing is posting my tips for feeling better and inspirational quotes, and when people reply that it helped them, again it makes my day.

What special things do you do for the blog?
As stated above, I try to give wholesome advice on he Hug Page, welcome new members, answer questions on Ask Jaysnow, rate and comment on every fanfiction, and *gasp* I write fanfiction! I haven’t done any lately because I’ve been busy, but I have a new chapter almost ready to come out! I also canon correct names, run Guess That BlogClanner and Create a Character on the Warrior Games page, I’ve made and participated in almost every Warriors Generator, I’ve run various NTA and warrior games in the past, I run the roleplay gatherings on the wikia, and I try to encourage and provide funny and sweet moments in small places as often as I can.

How would you help older members and new members adjust to the blog?
Everyone is different and will have different needs, concerns, and questions, but I’ll do my best to help everyone to their individual needs to the best of my abilities. I’ll give them all the information on BlogClan that they need, be a friendly face in chat, help introduce them to new members and activities, and be there if they need me.

In conclusion, I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting me and encouraging me, and being there for me when I need it, and even when I don’t. BlogClan is an amazing place filled with amazing people. You’re my Internet home and family. I love you all so much. I know that whoever ends up to be medicine cat will do an amazing job. Thank you for considering me as medicine cat, and if you voted for me/are going to vote for me, thank you so much! That makes my day. Also a quick shout-out and thank you to Rosefur, who gave me this idea and gave me permission to use it. She has a wonderful campaign on the previous page, go check it out! I hope each and every one of you has an amazing day. Thank you so much. <3 <3 <3

    • You and Icy are working on a BlogClan wide Fanfiction contest?! can I help? I’d really love to help out as seeing more notice given to Fanfiction would be amazing

      • Hey, Jet! 🙂 I’m running the contest, but I told Wave I would let her know if I needed help. I think I’ve got it for now, but if I ever need help in the future, I’ll be sure to send a message your way! 😀

      • Well… it was my idea and I offered to run it, but when I wrote it up she hadn’t told me she would be running it yet. But she told me if she needed help she’d ask me, so I guess that counts? 😛 But the more the merrier!

        • I ought to interject and say it was initially Iceflower’s idea to run the contest. You’re always welcome to help, though, as you already know!

          • Actually, I asked her in PM on wiki chat about it. She said that she had already had already been thinking about it and that she would talk to the team about it. So it kinda was both of ours.

            • Not going to debate it anymore, she claims it to be her’s, I trust her. It’s no big deal, let’s move along 🙂

        • I’m afraid a misunderstanding has occurred – I don’t need any help in running this project, which I tried to make clear. Your offers are extremely generous and appreciated, and opportunities to help may open up in the future, but the contest is in its early stages of development and not needed at this time. 🙂

            • You kept asking about running it, as well as telling other people they could help, which is why I said what I said above. I feel like we had a misunderstanding, and I wanted to clear it up so as not to confuse anyone.

              • Did I? I really want to run something, and I’m rapidly losing inspiration to write anything, but I thought I only asked once. It scared me to death to ask, so I wouldn’t pester or anything… I get that you’re going to run it and be in charge and probably not need me to do anything. And I felt like I needed to say something since it was directed at me, so to completely ignore Jetty would be rude. I didn’t say directly if she could help or not because that’s your choice, I just tried to give what I thought you would say without trying to quote you while not giving a definite answer.

                • I understand wanting to run something, there’s nothing wrong with that. 🙂 You did ask twice, which is why I thought I would clear it up. You don’t have to be scared to ask me anything, I won’t get mad. 😀 It would be fairly complicated to have multiple people working on the same project, and there also isn’t much to do. Seeing as the contest is new and likely won’t have gained much popularity in the first month, I think it would be simpler overall, but if it grows big enough and gets to the point where help is needed, then I’ll let people know. 🙂

If you want to write but can’t think of anything, try checking out the Idea Shop on the wikia! It has several different wonderful prompts. 🙂

                • Fanfiction contests are a pretty common, mainstream idea, so you could always run your own on the Fanfiction Page and/or wikia, Wave! Many people have been successful doing that (Eagle and I got 15 entries with ours. 😀 )

                • It’s not that I don’t have any prompts, I have tons of ideas. You have no idea how many unfinished one-shots and prologues/first chapters I have in the Notes section on my phone when I get random ideas. It’s more of less of an inspiration to actually write, to get the words out from where they’re all jumbled in my head and think of things I didn’t think of when I first got the spark and try to make them fit in so the story flows better. It’s really frustrating, and it takes me a really long time to finish a story or a chapter. Steppy once managed that she can sometimes do two chapters in a day. I can do about a fifth of that, on a good day. I just feel like whenever I have an idea it’s a) something someone has already thought of b) something that wouldn’t work for the blog or c) something that’s way too similar to something we already have. Aside from Poll Tsar which I don’t think will happen, there aren’t really any openings in BlogTeam which is my chance to run something and get my ideas out first. I completely understand why you don’t want me working on the project, I was just overenthusiastic because it was my one shot to actually run something good. I’m sure the contest will be wonderful under your hands. 🙂

                  • Understandable, I have a hard time writing as well. But you can still run contests without being a moderator/part of the BlogTeam! There’s not much difference, really. 🙂 It’s not that I don’t want you working on it, but I’d like to get it started and see how it goes from there, because extra help could be confusing when there isn’t much to help on. 😛 There are plenty of opportunities, you’ll see. 😀

                • Yeah, I get it. I just want to run something blog wide, like the art contest. I tried to run a fanfiction contest on my own back in January and it ended disastrously. So I don’t trust myself with a smaller contest like that. But when there’s pressure, I work better. I don’t know, I’m just stressed, I guess. 😛

                  • Aw, I understand. 🙂 Maybe taking some time away from the internet would help you relax and give you some more ideas. ❤ Something will come to you eventually! Don’t overwork yourself. 🙂

  • I’ve decided to do this as well but it’s probably pretty late 😛

    Who am I?

I’m Willowlight, a senior warrior here. I’ve written a TS chapter, helped out a ton on the wiki, and more. I’m Wistep’s mentor and I’ve written a few fanfictions, and I run a Murder Mysteries game on the Warrior Games page.

Why should you vote for me?

I’m honestly not the most qualified of all the candidates, but I know what it’s like to be an average member, and I know what it’s like to be a bit of a troublemaker. I caused drama in the past, yes, but I learned from those experiences and now I know a lot about why people would start drama and how to solve it. I’m pretty active and I plan to be for a while, and I’m pretty dedicated when I put my mind to something. I want to make BlogClan better for everyone, making it more active and having fun activities.

What do you plan to do/fix as medicine cat?

I want to keep the blog fun for everyone, resolving arguments, hosting contests, and helping out new members. Many new members are confused when the join the blog and sometimes that really pushes people away. I also would like to add more features and activities to the blog, making it even more fun than it already is. It’s hard to say what the problems of the future I might need to fix are, but I want to fix them the best I can.

Do you have a medicine cat apprentice in mind?

I have a few people in mind, including my current apprentice, Wistep, but I’m not sure yet.

How active are you and how long have you been on BlogClan?

I’ve been on BlogClan for just over a year and a half, and I’m very active. I don’t comment as much as I should, but I’m on the wiki every day and I stalk the blog a lot. I know a lot of people personally and I’m good friends with many BlogClanners.

What special things do you do for the blog?

Most of my contributions relate to the wiki, where I code and design the wiki’s themes as well as find extra coded scripts to add features, but I’ve done a few things for the blog as well. I’ve helped out with A Month’s Round Up in Cats and written a Trailing Stars chapter, as well as commenting frequently on pages like Name Generators, Warrior Names, and Warrior Games. I’ve suggested things for the blog too, and having a separate games page was my idea. I’d like to incorporate even more new features and ideas to the Blog.

How would you help older members and new members adjust to the blog?

I’ve always been helpful to anyone who needs it, and on the wiki I give a long message explaining everything they need to know about the wiki. I’d like to do something like that on the Blog, with a detailed explanation of anything they might need to know. I also help by just being there and willing to explain anything, as well as generally helping out everyone I can.

  • Ack. Sorry for being so inactive on here, I have been quite busy over the weekend, what are all the campaignes about? Are they needed on the page to be voted for? Sorry, so confused 😛

  • Here’s my campaign, it’s short

3- What other sites are you active on?
    Wikia {Stoatbramble} Discord {stoatbramble#7406/IKEA meatballs is my nickname for the BlogClan and IkeaClan servers}, and Scratch {–Stoatbramble500–}

    Yes.

  • Why you should vote for Robinpaw
    By Robinpaw

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR MED CAT?
I am running so that I feel like I am giving BlogClan my all and so that help will be given to those in need. I will still try to be as if I were even if I am not. I love BlogClan, and I will be here every day for until I forget one day which is very possible.

DO YOU HAVE A MCA IN MIND?
Yes, they are an awesome person, kind and smart. I have not asked her yet, I might not win but a few people know who they are. (Live chat :P) If not,I still have three others. In order too. 😛

    HOW ACTIVE ARE YOU?
I am on literally every day, morning and night mostly. By becoming Medicine Cat, I’d use the night to post on the Say Hi page and the Hug Page and use the mornings for regular things, like Tavern, Games, Generators, Fanfiction, stuff like that 🙂

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS.
    WHY SHOULD I VOTE ROBIN?
I am active, I have been told to have been really kind. I am willing to help anyone if I have the answers needed. I am welcoming, and acording to Sunny and Icy I am awesome 😛

    Thanks for reading!
    Vote Ro!
    Its the way to go!

  • Fox-dung…..I voted and then I realized that it said that you could vote for up to three people and I only voted for one because I thought you could only vote for one but I have a few people I want to be med cat…… 🙁

    • Aww, that’s okay, you’ll still have the chance to support a candidate during the next round!
