INTRODUCTION:

Hello, BlogClanners! Lily and Winter here, with our first article together, and we decided to share with you the secret lives of the Clans’ prey! We wrote it in an informational way, and did as much research as possible! They have many interesting facts about their food, lifespans and more. The biomes of the prey involved are based off the Clans’ territories at the lake. Let’s get into it!

SHADOWCLAN:

* Many types of birds, including warblers, thrush, robins, woodlarks, owls and more.
* Snakes, lizards, newts and frogs.
* Rats and mice.
* Bats.
* Squirrels and pine martens.

Reproduction:
– Rats, mice, squirrels, bats and pine martens are all mammals. To reproduce, they birth their babies live from the womb, with no egg or shell. The same way us Twolegs do!
– Birds create nests among trees, usually composed of twigs and grass, and then have eggs inside those nests. The baby birds will break through the shells of the egg and squeak as they grow, and the parent bird will bring them worms and other bugs as food.
– Snakes and other reptiles also lay eggs.

Lifespans:
– Birds usually live a few years in the wild. They are threatened by predators, natural disasters and diseases. Robins have been known to live up to 13 years in captivity! Many birds in warriors are killed due to our lovely Warrior cats’ hungry bellies. Some owls have lived for 4 years or more.
– Mice, along with birds, may only live a few years. The African pygmy mouse lives for 2 years. Black rats live for 12 months and brown rats live for 2 years.
– Bats, surprisingly, outlive many other mammals. They can live anywhere between 1-20 years! The oldest bat known (a little brown bat) lived up to 30 years
– Most snakes and lizards live between 10-20 years. Frogs live for 10-12 years.
– Squirrels live for 8-12 years, but are often threatened by predators and disasters too. A marten can live for 15 years.

Food:
– Most birds, squirrels, mice, rats, and martens eat small insects and bugs, grubs found among the ground and by trees, as well as seeds, fruit, and crops.
– Snakes may eat bird eggs, mice, squirrels, and the large ones have been known to eat deer. Lizards and newts eat small mammals. Frogs will eat dragonflies, mosquitoes, horseflies, water-spiders, mayflies, and any other small bug that is not harmful or poisonous.
– Bats will eat small berries, fish, and frogs.
– Martens and squirrels eat nuts and seeds.

WINDCLAN:

* Birds such as lapwings, thrush, grouse and robins.
* Rabbits and hares.
* Voles and mice.

Reproduction:
– Mice and birds have been covered.
– Rabbits, voles and hares reproduce the same as any other mammal — giving birth live, not involving eggs.

Lifespans:
– Most birds live to the same age, as covered in ShadowClan. Lapwings can live 4 or 5 years. The oldest known wood thrush lived for 8 years. Most grouse live for less than 7 years.
– Rabbits live for about 3 years. Hares for 5-7 years.
– Voles may only live for 12 months, sometimes less.

Food:
– Birds, voles and mice eat brains, nuts, small bugs, etc.
– Rabbits and hares eat a variety of vegetable and small fruits, and may try grass, seeds or hay.

RIVERCLAN:

* Trout, minnows, pike and many other fish.
* Eels.
* Various amphibians such as frogs, tadpoles and newts.
* Freshwater birds.

Reproduction:
– Freshwater birds base their nests and eggs in trees/bushes close to water.
– Amphibians and fish will lay eggs near a safe spot and a male will fertilize them.
– When young, fish first hatch into fry (no, not French fries) and then mature into minnows and fish. Frog eggs hatch into tadpoles or fry too, and as they grow, will lose their tail and get wider, taking the shape of a frog.

Lifespans:
– Larger birds will live longer than small birds in the wild.
– Amphibians vary.
– Max age recorded for for a trout in the wild was 11 years. Pike typically live 7 years, and minnows usually live 2-3 years. Eels live live for 8-18 years on average.

Food:
– Fish will eat earthworms, river shrimp, large insects, while eels will eat fish larvae and worms.
– Most freshwater birds eat insects, fish, and frogs.

THUNDERCLAN:

* Avians such as thrush, robins, woodlarks, owls, ravens, crows.
* Reptiles such as adders (a type of snake).
* Rats, mice, squirrels, vole, rabbits, pine martens, and more.

Note: Prey in ThunderClan is very similar to ShadowClan, without amphibians and abundances of bats.

Reproduction:
– Forest mammals give birth to their young live, without eggs.
– Forest avians and reptiles lay eggs, but in different areas.

Lifespans:
– Forest animals resemble the same lifespans as all other animals of their same species, but in different areas.

Food:
– All reptiles, mammals and avians in the forest eat the same as the ones near water and marshes.

THREATS:

Other threats, besides cats, to animals in these forest, moor, and wetland areas are:
deforestation, forest fires, pollution, littering, predators, overexposure, floods, droughts and other natural disasters, unprotected areas (eg: the moorlands have much less safety from storms and disasters than a forest), and over-hunting. These animals coexist with one another, along with many more such as deer, insects and spiders, and their biome is suited for them.

CONCLUSION:
So that was our article! We hope you guys enjoyed it. We spent lots of time researching and compiling it. As you can see, the prey among the lake territories vary quite a bit. These animals live their own lives besides the inevitable future of them being eaten by wild cats (:P). Any questions and thoughts can be commented below and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you in the future!
