Sky argues that Ivypool should’ve remained mate-less.
Hello, BlogClan. By the time this is published, Darkest Night will probably already have been published. (Embertsar edit: And you are correct :P) Oh well. Maybe it won’t connect with Ivypool so much. Anyways…
I’m here to go against popular liking and say that I DISLIKE IVYXFERN. Okay? They’ve barely had any encounters AT ALL, and I imagine Fernsong being one of those people who act all tough and stuff. I personally think that warriors can do much better than the ship known as….*shudders* IvyXFern.
But that’s not exactly the point of this article. I hate all Ivy ships except IvyXHawkfrost, but even then, I don’t nearly like IvyXHawk as much as Ivypool SINGLE.
Now, let us count: modern ThunderClan she-cats without mates or crushes.
How many did you come up with? One? Two? Exactly. We need some strong, independent women in ThunderClan, and Ivypool is PERFECTLY SUITED for the role.
She’s strong, independent, goal-oriented, and brave. I cannot imagine her leaning against a tom, not even once.
Now, snapping into reality of warriors.
It’s pretty obvious that the silver she-cat with kits is Ivypool.
So.
Either the silver she-cat is, surprisingly, some other cat, OR Ivypool is a single mother.
Simple as that.
We haven’t seen a single mother since the first series, with Frostfur and her mysterious mate and Brindleface who asked Whitestorm to help her have another litter after Redtail’s death.
We’ll just say that it’s been a long time since we’ve had a single mom, and Ivypool, one of the most capable warriors we know, will be perfect for the role of a single mother.
Think about it!
There was no tom in the vision, was there, unless I read wrong? No tom! So maybe that symbolizes Ivypool being single!
I absolutely adore that idea because I can’t get the idea of miniature Ivypools out of my mind. I think that Ivypool would be that tough mom who loves her kits but is strict to them because of that.
I also think that a single mother will give a boost to the complexity and differences of cats in warriors. I mean, honestly, is anyone bored of reading about those “perfect couples” that have a happy life and have, say, a kid that dies before one of them breaks into tears when the other dies? Having a singular she-cat like Ivypool will make her and her kits more interesting and a more compelling read.
Plus, if Ivypool gets a mate, even though she’s my favorite character, I will be severely disappointed and not read any scenes of her while she’s a queen nor any scenes of her and her mate. Period.
All in all, we really need a more complex queen and couple, and more interesting kits. Since Ivypool is a relatively major character, unlike Frostfur, we might get to see her kits growing up without a father. Wouldn’t that be interesting?
Anyways…
Signing out,
Sky!
Though I’m yet to read the books beyond Thunder & Shadow, it might have been better for Ivypool to remain without a mate. It depends on how it’s been written. I feel like it might have been set up fairly well in the earlier AVoS books, if it had been (I haven’t read them for a while 😛 ). I mean, to be honest, as long as she stays a relatively strong character, I’m not as concerned as I would be. In my mind, it’s more about Ivypool doesn’t need a mate to be happy — as has been the case w/a lot of other characters in the Warriors universe. What makes characters like Mistystar (and even Bluestar in terms of how she develops beyond Oakheart) so great is that they go away from the common female lovestruck stereotype + ‘kickass’ female characters do normally and naturally just work well.
I agree.
PS – FernXIvy had no development, which is a big reason why I’m against them.
While I agree with you on lack of development, Sky, i’m willing to give these two a chance. This is going to be interesting with a tom being a stay at home dad in the nursery.
Nope, she’s with Fernsong. But Fernsong will mostly take care of the kits after they are off milk.
Woah that was modded so fast!
I know that. I guess it’s nice to see a stay-at-home dad. But I think he needs more spunk, and he has no development.
Yeah, I think they should’ve put her with a tom who had some development.
Is it weird that I sort of expected this article? If you don’t already know, I am meh on this ship. However, despite IvyxFern being alright in my eyes, I still prefer Ivy as a single cat. So those of you who do like IvyxFern, please get off the ship of Ivy Is Single that is boarding now. And slowly sinking with almost nobody drowning because there is almost nobody on it.
Okay, that was random. But as I was saying, I still prefer Ivypool single because I feel like that she if a very strong cat and it would be interesting to see what she is like on her own.. I want to see her independent.
Though Sky, not reading the parts of Ivy as queen and with Fern is a bit extremeThat’s fine, I was being angry in this article a bit. XD
great article! I agree wholeheartedly! giving her a mate doesn’t make her any weaker or less independent, but I agree that we need more mate-less she-cats and fatherless kits, and that her relationship with Fernsong was very rushed, offscreen, and disappointing.
Totally and utterly agreed.!!!!!!
Honestly I think it would be interesting to see kits from StarClan, such as a mother who was expecting kits and didn’t know died (like Bright Stream), and a medicine cat or leader receiving nine lives went up to the Moonpool and came back with their kits. I once mad a fanfic on that, I think!
Yes, that would be interesting
Idk if I agree or not since I haven’t read AVOS (agh). I’d personally like a mate like Fernsong but anyways we’re talking about Ivypool, not me, haha. Hopefully you can forgive the Erins for giving her mate though. What I’ve heard is that she’s still her independent strong self so I think she’s good. But this is your opinion and I don’t know what I think about this couple yet so I’ll let others do the talking (and debating). 🙂
That’s fine! I just feel like all the she-cat of ThunderClan are either gossips(Rosepetal and Cherryfall, etc.) or once-main, now gets a bit of feature(Dovewing) or have no part(Brightheart, Millie, etc.). And they all have mates or a big crush… 🙁
So I think it’s nice that there’s a strong she-cat, and I was crossing my fingers for her to not be a smitten cat. Also, Ivypool has turned, over-all, a bit meaner to some and more of a softie with others with a mate, so….
Good article! I agree. ^^
I mostly agree, if they paid more attention to the ship and made it sort of similar to BramblexSquirrel then I would be meh on it, but I sorta hate it now.
I will say, I like her single too, and feel like a lot could be done in the narrative to make it interesting, however, FernIvy is still in development, and we shouldn’t be to quick to judge. Ivypool is still the same cat and she deserves to be happy, with or without a mate. FernIvy definitely has potential and that should be respected, otherwise, I love your article and found it interesting. .
I agree^
I feel like if Hollyleaf was alive, they could’ve both been the single cats or the single moms that were strong until the end.
IKR!!! 😛
Very cool article sky!!
You’ve made great points but personally I want Ivypool to get a mate. NOT FERNSONG though. I feel like, she’s been so brave and all that with everything she’s done, and she you know deserves a mate.
But maybe that means she SHOULDN’T get a mate. Who else has been through what she’s been? So many people talk about her getting a mate as a REWARD when maybe getting a mate will result in kits and pull her back. A mate, either way, is not a reward. I don’t mean it like, “A mate is not a good thing,” I mean it like, “A mate is not a prize. You don’t need one.”
This is a really great article! This situation has been up for debate recently, and honestly I don’t really mind at all that Ivypool has a mate and kits, as it doesn’t really detract from her awesomeness at all! Plus, I really liked the scene when Fernsong seemed to sort of lean on Ivypool, and I think it would be great to see their relationship unfold a bit like that.
I sort of skimmed because I haven’t read AVOS yet and I didn’t want any more spoilers than I already have. I totally agree though, I’ve always Ivypool should just be single, and I had no idea abut Fernsong! I just can’t picture them together, but I have to read it first before I have a real opinion on these two.
