Should Ashfur be in StarClan? *Spoiler on Moth Flight’s Vision* by Shadekit

Shadekit gives their opinion on one of the most controversial issues in Warriors.

Everyone (almost) knows how Ashfur tried to kill Squirrelflight’s kits, Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather. Was it hatred, jealousy, or both? In the books, when Brambleclaw was with Squirrelflight, Erin drops some cues that Ashfur was looking jealously at them. So is he to blame?
It is not entirely his fault that he was mad with Squirrelflight, I mean, Squirrelflight could have chosen him, right? He is like Mapleshade, he was blinded by hatred and took an evil path. Anyway, should he have gone to StarClan, I think if he went to StarClan, Mapleshade should have had a chance to go to StarClan too, Ashfur tried to do the same thing to the Clans too, just that he hasn’t succeeded, which is probably he went to StarClan, but if Hollyleaf didn’t kill him, would he have done the same killing frenzy as Mapleshade? Leave your answers in the comments below! Let’s look at some similarities between Ashfur and Mapleshade:
-They both wanted to kill because they were hurt inside, and wanted to teach those cats “a lesson”.
-Their plot both involved a secret.
-Kits were involved in reasons that they wanted to kill.
-They both wanted to harm ThunderClan
-They tried to kill the cat’s kin. For Appledusk; Reedshine, and for Squirrelflight; Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather.
Ever since the Oakstar time, is Ashfur like another Mapleshade failure? Does he deserve to be in StarClan? StarClan is for good cats, right? Is Ashfur a good cat? StarClan was found by Moth Flight, do you think Moth Flight would have let Ashfur be in StarClan?
One more question for the comments, whose fault was it for Ashfur’s hatred, Ashfur, or Squirrelflight and

A bit of StarClan and the Dark Forest, it was first discovered and named by Moth Flight, on her journey to well, somewhere. Although I think StarClan was first featured in The First Battle, the Dark Forest was never mentioned until years after, in Mapleshade’s Vengeance. The diversity between the Dark Forest and StarClan also shows the diversity of the Clans too. It starts with one question. Why isn’t every cat loyal the Clans? Why do some cats have to be so evil, like Tigerstar 1 and Brokenstar?

  • I wrote an article almost exactly like this, but it hasn’t been posted yet XD… So keep in mind that I didn’t copy off of you. 🙂

    • How can i change my Profil? If you know, Teller me please… because i dont want that Profil any more

    • I think that that’s only because the cats who decide where cats go never gave her a chance. Had she been sent to StarClan, I believe she would have been fine.

      • GO MAPLESHADE! 😀 Besides, she actually was truly heartbroken because Appledusk let her down very hard. Squirrelflight however did it gently. And MAPLESHADE lost her mate, kits, her Clan even, her friends whereas Ashfur had plenty to turn to.

      • He does deserve the dark forest
        1. Because Ashfur never did anything to make up for trying to kill Squirrelflight’s loved ones. I bet if she wasn’t exiled, Ashfur would’ve tried to kill.
        2. He never regretted it, as we see in the moments leading up to his death.
        3. Ashfur did not physically lose anyone. He could’ve chosen another mate, as there were many in the clan, but he decided to put all his anger on Squirrelflight and her kits.
        4. Ashfur is probably FORCED to be accepting because he doesn’t want to end up in the dark forest. If he does anything against Squirrelflight again, he would most likely be sent there.

  • Good article! I feel like it really connects to the readers because you aren’t telling them your opinion. You are giving them a chance to state their own. If this were a book I bet it would be very successful.

  • I think that it was wrong for Ashfur to be sent to StarClan. I love Mapleshade and hate Ashfur, so here’s why their stories are different: Mapleshade had a good reason to kill, at least better than some, and Ashfur simply did not. While Ashfur could have been like Thrushpelt, he wasn’t. Plus, Mapleshade’s anger was because of OTHERS, Ashfur’s were because of himself and his anger over a girlfriend.

  • Ashfur doesn’t deserve StarClan and its hard to say he ‘loved’ Squirrelflight. No, he felt ENTITLED to her. He felt like she had to be with him and that she was wrong for being in love with someone else. He attempted murder on four cats for no reason other to make someone who never saw him as more than a friend suffer. Squirrelflight wanted to be his friend and she laid it out pretty clear for him. It wasn’t him misinterpreting it. He literally wanted her to suffer for something she couldn’t be blamed for. According to the list of phycological abuse as follows:
    Humiliating or embarrassing you.
    Constant put-downs.
    Refusing to communicate.
    Ignoring or excluding you.
Use of sarcasm and unpleasant tone of voice.
    Unreasonable jealousy.
    Extreme moodiness.
Mean jokes or constantly making fun of you.
    Saying “I love you but…”
Saying things like “If you don’t _____, I will_____.”
    Domination and control.
    Withdrawal of affection.
    Guilt trips.
    Making everything your fault.
Isolating you from friends and family.

Ashfur is obviously doing some of these to Squirrelflight. He blames her and Brambleclaw for his own problems and guilt trips her on numerous occasions. He tries to kill her family, he tries to control her, he’s downright awful to her after she tells him she wants to be friends. He fought aggressively with Lionblaze and was often less than pleasant with Squirrelflight. Not saying he has to like her being with Brambleclaw, but that doesn’t give him a right to be a hateful jerk. In the scene where he confronts Squirrelflight in the infamous fire scene, he accuses her of everything and attempts to guilt trip her, stating that he is in pain from the choice she’s allowed to make. Also when he states, (can’t remember the book) “But I love you! We’d be great together, Squirrelflight. I know we would.” Its obvious Ashfur is attempting to entice and guilt Squirrelflight into a relationship. This is a warning sign of a bad relationship. Ashfur takes this a step further when he outright says his quarrel is with Squirrelflight. Of course, it’s not Squirrelflight’s fault any of this is happening. She should be able to choose what cat she wants to be with. Ashfur has no right to interfere. In fact, Ashfur obviously doesn’t care about Squirrelflight at this point either. He’s just obsessed with the idea of her. He’d do anything to maintain that image and would attempt murder for that idea. This doesn’t equate a good cat, in fact, he’s an extreme abuser and there’s nothing I can see that defends him doing this out of love or that he wouldn’t do this if they were in a relationship. Ashfur was an emotionally abusive cat that doesn’t deserve StarClan. Not after everything he’s done.

    Geesh I typed a lot…

  • Since it said that Ashfur regretted that he tried to kill Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf, i think if he lived he would ask Squirrelflight to forgive him, and live a peaceful life, and maybe try to find another mate. And since he regretted his crimes, i think he deserves to be in star clan. (i also think that Ashfur is misunderstood but im not going to write why, because that would took hours)

  • To be honest, Ashfur comes across as a textbook incel and it really upset me that he was allowed into StarClan, especially considering [SPOILER] Leafpool and Squirrelflight were put on trial for a much lesser crime. I agree wholeheartedly with Bramblefire’s excellent argument above; Ashfur never loved Squirreflight so much as he felt entitled to her. I disagree with what Yellowfang said that his only crime was “loving too much.” I try not to get too upset over fictional fandoms but since this scenario is so common in real life—especially considering the attitudes of toxic masculinity endemic to our society—I was deeply distressed not just at the murder incident but at how readily StarClan cats were willing to justify Ashfur’s toxic, abusive, and ultimately murderous behavior. I mean, if Leafpool is nearly turned away from StarClan for the crime of ~actually~ loving too much, Ashfur should at least have been made to atone for his crime in some way before being allowed in.

  • It’s amusing to read the comments of ppl thinking ash fur is good ( of course this was 4 years ago before broken code imposter identity)
