Sol’s Character Needs A “Sol”ution

Owlflight shares a potential theory about the mysterious Sol.

Well today I’m going to theorize about the flaws of Sol, one of my favorite characters in the series, that being his vaguely magic like abilities and strange ways of persuading different cats.
So what’s the deal with Sol? I know all of the wikis and stuff say he’s a good guesser and nothing else. I’m here today to see if I can disprove that.
What I never really happened to get about the Power Of Three prophecy is why Firestar got the prophecy so much earlier than it came into effect. With most other prophecies, the foretold events start to happen within a couple months, but with this prophecy it took almost 3 years before anything happened, and until book one of the third season came out we didn’t even know the prophecy existed.
Well, my theory is that Sol is connected to StarClan. He has similar powers to Jayfeather, letting him see glimpses of the future and also letting him enter other’s minds to best convince them of something.
Sol was part of another power of three. We already know that the three change around a lot, it happens in the books, so who’s to deny that there’ve been multiple renditions of the three.
Sol might not be Firestar’s kin’s kin, but he also might be. After all, Jake is everyone’s father, would it be a surprise if he was in Sol’s family lines?
A second part of the 3 would be Scourge. He’s not as powerful as say Lionblaze but he magically learned a million deadly fighting moves and became untouchable.
And the third part is….. (crickets chirp) sorry, we have no candidate.
Yeah, this theory is definitely flawed. I just made it as if I was saying, “hey wouldn’t it be cool if-” and while there is a lot of thought you can put into this theory it takes so much assumption that you can’t say for sure. I mean, we haven’t even got a third member of the three, for crying out loud!
So what do you guys think about this theory? Any ideas for a number 3? Do you think this could actually be true?

  • I gotta disagree with the whole series. Sol is a smooth-talker who has good eavesdropping skills and knows how to put those skills to use. He literally tried to break the Clans, so no, he is not connected to StarClan.

    • But Brokenstar was (technically) connected to Starclan but he literally wreaked havoc on everything.

      • No, he was connected to the Dark Forest mainly. StarClan only gave him lives because they were obliged to, as Brokenstar was the rightful leader of ShadowClan.

        • Let me point out that I admitted myself that this theory is just for fun and also that A) The Dark Forest can only really communicate through dreams and therefore StarClan was more connected to Brokenstar when he was alive, he just chose to be evil. He was cursed (Or Yellowfang was cursed? Who was cursed there? Both of them?) by StarClan, and the dark forest probably didn’t need to ever visit him. Also Mapleshade would be about the only cat there so….. B) Sol is a smooth talker, that may be it, but it just does not feel like it’s it. In a fantasy rich with lore and detail, Sol just being a random whim of the universe is a little bit… I know I’ve been using this word a lot in my replies, but unfulfilling. I feel like all of Sol’s excuses were simply excuses and he could actually see the future and read minds like Jayfeather.

        • And just because he was against StarClan doesn’t mean he was not related. After all, both Sol and Scourge were wronged by the Clans, which would cause for StarClan to make a new, safer three.

  • I agree with Sky and Sunny. But I do think this is a cool theory, and I love the Moonkitti reference 😛

    • Moonkitti is awesome and deserves more references. And I do think that this theory is a bit of a stretch, but Sol just being a smooth talker feels like a stretch as well.

  • Yeah Midnight telling him is a very good theory, maybe when a Sol (which is Spanish for sun) gets his own special addition we might know for sure

  • Umm okay??? But I don’t think he has a connection with StarClan. Midnight told him most of the stuff, after all

  • In the prologue of Long Shadows (I think) It’s revealed that Midnight told Sol about the eclipse and other things.

  • Nice article! It is possible that Sol is related to Firestar, but how did he end up all the way in SkyClan’s territory in the gorge? I read the books a few months ago, and I remember it saying that Midnight told StarClan or Jayfeather that he told Sol about the eclipse and the Three. If there is another Three, why would it be Sol? Lets’s take a look at the whole prophecy, “There will be Three, kin of your kin, who will hold the power of stars in their paws” so Sol might be related to Firestar, but they is flaws, and Scourge is. But they would hold the power of stars in their paws. They didn’t really do that. And anyway, whoever made the prophecy, shouldn’t be so stupid to pick cats who have bad intentions. I think even StarClan knew that. I don’t think that it’s possible. Anyway, Scourge didn’t believe in StarClan, and I don’t think Sol did either. He made ShadowClan not believe in StarClan. Why would he have done that if he himself, believed in StarClan? I like this theory, but I don’t think it’s possible.

    • Well , Scourge is not quite as powerful as Lionblaze but he’s nearly there, and Sol appears to have similar powers to Jayfeather as well as being a lot smarter. Plus, the cats are not born evil *except Brokenstar, but he was cursed.* All of the antagonists were wronged in some way. Tigerpaw lost his father and felt the need to prove his loyalty unlike his father leaving, so he became way too focused on that and forgot about what everyone else felt, feeling as though he had to meet his goal. Scourge was beaten up by several warriors and generally treated badly by them (as well as his family, who also appeared to hate him), which caused him to become aggressive and power hungry after being so powerless in his youth. Sol was originally trying to join SkyClan because he wanted something more, but seeing as he was not properly taught the Clan ways, his ways got him kicked out and he thought the warrior system was idiotic. Ashfur was betrayed by Squirrelflight when he thought they were together. Hawkwing was possessed and told to do bad things, in addition to also being mistreated by the Clans and having a hard past which seriously messed him up. Mapleshade went insane thought her kits were telling her to commit homocide. All of these villains are at least attempting to be redeemable, so it’s possible Sol was going to be a hero for SkyClan, maybe bringing them back, but ended up not doing so hot when SkyClan went, “Nope!” Scourge could also have been destined to help the clans, he had great power. But because of some idiot clan cats his left felt awful and he needed to have power over people to cope. Sol probably did believe in StarClan, and even if he didn’t, well did he need to? Just because he was given powers doesn’t mean that he had to keep a belief in StarClan. And he wanted his revenge on the Clans so convincing ShadowClan was his way of starting his plan. And Scourge heard of StarClan for the first couple times in the last few hours of his life, so he had no proof it existed.

  • I like the theory, it’s cool, but I don’t think it’s possible at all. Like Sunny said, Midnight told him about the eclipse (before I know this, I always imagine Sol watching the new from the TV outside the twoleg’s den and knew about the eclipse 😹), so he’s just “good at talking very much” (which makes he’s one of my favourite villains 😉) and not possibly connected with Starclan.

    • IDK, I always felt like the midnight thing was an excuse, cover up, or afterthought. It’s kind of unfulfilling. Although that’s true with almost all of Power Of Three! (shots fired)

  • An idea for number 3:

    Tigerstar I

    Why:
He found out how to cross into the living world and manipulated several people (much like Sol).

    • Interesting. But Firestar and Tigerstar aren’t related… are they? Of course, Jake and Pinestar knew each other and we actually don’t know Pinestar’s heritage. He might be descended from kittypets. Still, we probably will never know.

      • No Firestar and Tigerstar are related through their offspring mating. See here:

Squirrelflight (Firestar’s daughter) mated to Brambleclaw (Tigerstar’s son). Dovewing is mated to Tigerheart (Tigerstar’s grandson). Also Redtail (and Spottedleaf) is Tigerstar’s uncle and Redtail’s daughter is Sandstorm (she and Tigerstar are cousins) who’s mate is Firestar.
