Leiji Matsumoto (the person who wrote Galaxy Express 999 and directed Space Battleship Yamato) worked on this film/movie and it’s good.
It’s basically a music video for an entire album. There’s no spoken dialogue in it, and the only voices you will hear are the vocals in the songs.
If you’ve ever seen the music video for “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” by Daft Punk (the one with the blue aliens being turned into human popstars) and wondered about the story behind it and/or wanted to know what happened to those blue-alien-people afterwards, you’ve seen part of the film/movie!
You can actually watch the entire movie/film on YouTube, as the music videos for each song on the album (“Discovery” by Daft Punk) are scenes from the film/movie.
DP’s music label (Virgin/EMI Records) have every single part of the movie uploaded onto youtube as music videos, and some fans have even compiled YT playlists of each music video in the correct order.
I would recommend watching it, even if you don’t usually listen to this kind of music.
I’ve loved Interstellar 5555 ever since I first saw the entire film in 2014; I think it’s my favourite movie of all time.
(CAUTION: Even though I don’t mention what happens, there might possibly be very minor spoilers for the ending of the film ahead. I just say what the ending made me feel when I first watched it, not the events of the film itself, but if you don’t want to know if the ending is happy or sad yet, don’t read any further. )
To be honest I don’t usually cry, but right after the movie ended I did actually shed a tear when I first saw the film nearly five years ago. I’ve seen it quite a few times now, and I haven’t cried whilst watching the movie/film since, so be prepared and keep some tissues nearby just in case.
