Complete Firestar Family by Shadowfate

Shadowfate makes and draws Firestar’s family tree.

I’m doing something a little different today. I have been reading warriors for a long time. A really long time… half my life in fact (12 of my 24 years)
One of the more interesting aspects of the warrior series, to me at least, in the whole concept of kin, family, and heritage. These themes are present in every arc, and as a person who is interested in family history myself, I enjoy looking at the family trees of these fantasy cats.
I recently came across an old four generation picture of myself, my mother, grandmother and my (now deceased) great-grandmother.
I always knew I looked like my mother, but I hadn’t realized just how much I look like my grandmother and GG. It was clear at a glance that we are family.
So I got inspired to draw each known member of Firestar’s family.
Here is Firestar’s complete family
(Note that I have used some of my own headcanons in depicting these characters, and I reuse all the backgrounds because I don’t have enough time to do a unique background for every character. Some of them are lazier than others, and lastly, I’ll be including cats who are “married into the family (mates that I produced kits into the family))
I recently came across a headcanon of Firestar being an abyssisian/ somali cat. I fell in love with this headcanon because of how striking these cats look, and the first series mentions time and again that Firestar is rather striking to look at.

Since I decided to make Firestar a somali, I’ve made his parents, and grandmother the same, starting with Crystal, the kittypet.

She appears in Pinestar’s Choice, and is described as a orange tabby with white, and abyssinians are technically genetically tabbies, so I didn’t feel too bad stretching this description to make her a pure-bred abyssinian.

Next, we have her son Jake (who is arguably the most important character in the warriors universe, a fact I’ll cover in a different article)

Art by Shadow-Ku

He’s still a somali, but his looks aren’t up to his breed’s standard (his one white paw makes him unable to be registered as such) But that doesn’t stop him from being heart-throb number one around twolegplace!

The mother of Jake’s first known litter of kittens in Quince

Art by Shadow-Ku

Generic good mother character, I don’t have much to say about her.

Art by Shadow-Ku

Socks and Ruby, Firestar’s half siblings. They take after Quince for the most part (except for Ruby’s eyes, she got those of from her father.

Next, we have the edgiest cat in the warriors universe, the one and only Scourge, another half-brother of Firestar.

Art by Shadow-Ku

Honestly, I don’t have much opinion on him. I enjoyed him more in Darkest Hour when he was shown to be cold and calculating, and less so in the “manga” where he’s shown to much more emotional. Cold and unfeeling is much more unnerving in my opinion.

Jake’s second mate, Nutmeg, makes no appearances in the books themselves. I made her another abyssinian ( a fawn one)

I wish we could have met her, but alas, she will remain a faceless character in the narrative.

I made Princess take after Nutmeg, similar fur and eye color, and similar body shape. Princess takes after her mother, and Firestar, the center of this entire post, takes after his father.

I know there’s a lot of people who aren’t huge fans of Firestar, but I’ve always enjoyed his character. He makes a lot of mistakes, but he always tries to do his best, for everyone, not just for himself, and not even just for ThunderClan.
Cloudtail, despite sharing Firestar’s kittypet history, has a very different world view than his uncle. He’s very selfish, doing what he thinks is best for himself. But he’s still my favorite marshmallow.

He doesn’t look like his mother’s side of the family. I can only assume he got his fluffy white fur and dark blue eyes from his father.
When coming up with character art, I decided I wanted each Clan to have features that are common among the members of certain Clans. Since all the clans are incredibly inbred (that sort of things happens when you have generation after generation who are not allowed to choose mates outside the Clan.)

So I have Sandstorm many “typical” thunderClan features. Bushy tail, and tufts on her hind legs. She’s lacking ear tufts that I give most ThunderClan cats.

Another ThunderClan queen who “married” into the Firestar family. Brightheart is a fan favorite, and it is little wonder why.

Whitewing is a character who deserves more spotlight. Level headed, and compassionate. She takes after her mother personality. I gave her two different colored eyes because of Dovewing. Dovewing is constantly getting her eye color changed in each book, so I thought it’d be funny to give her different colored eyes. With that line of thinking, I decided that her mother should have the same feature. The other cat is Birchfall. Whom I dislike.
Seriously, Whitewing, girl, you settled. You settled hard.

Squirrelflight takes after her father

And I made Leafpool look more like Princess.

Finally we get to see someone who’s neither a kittypet, nor a ThunderClan cat.
Crowfeather is the father of Firestar’s grandchildren. I’ve made my WindClan features modled after oriental cats. Large ears, long limbs, short fur. I love the way it’s turned out. I also gave Crowfeather some markings. Just to make him more distinct from his other family, who is not being covered in this post.

I made Jayfeather take after his father, body type wise. Shorter fur, bigger ears. Takes after his WindClan side. I figure since he’s named after his father (his suffix) and he has his father’s grumpy nature.

Hollyleaf is described as looking a lot like her father, so she also inherited WindClan ears. She deserved so much better than she got.

Art by Shadow-Ku

It bothers me that Breezepelt, who did so many horrible things, fully aware of the choices he was making gets a happy ending but Hollyleaf died. I still mourn that we will never get Hollystar.

Lionblaze is a character who was interesting in the beginning, but became less and less so during Oots. He doesn’t show any of his WindClan heritage.

Art by Shadow-Ku

And of course, Lionblaze’s pretty mate, Cinderheart. I wish the waters hadn’t been muddled about whether or not she’s a full on reincarnation, or was being… possessed? By Cinderpelt.

Finally, we get to Dovewing, whom I am not fond of, but hey, she’s one of the Three.

Art by Shadow-Ku

And her much better sister, Ivypool. I love her. She is the best thing that came out of Oots. She is the most morally ambiguous character in Warriors. To her, the ends justify her means. She does some horrible things in the name of the greater good, and was willing to do more.

Art by Shadow-Ku

And Fernsong, one of my favorite characters. I love this soft boy! I can’t wait to see more of him. He’s the only relevant kit of Lionblaze

Art by Shadow-Ku

And now we get to the part I had the hardest section. The nobodies. The characters that have no personality, hardly show up in the books. I wish this younger characters got more time to shine.
Sorrelstripe and Hollytuft. The later getting the WindClan ears from her grandfather.

Art by Shadow-Ku

Snowbush, the nobody mate of Lilyheart and one of Cloudtail’s kits who died randomly leaving no emotional impact,

Art by Shadow-Ku

Ambermoon and Dewnose, other nobody kits of Cloudtail

Art by Shadow-Ku

And Snowbush’s children, who are also nobodies
Larksong

Art by Shadow-Ku

And his siblings Honeyfur and Leafshade. It’s a shame we didn’t get to know them more, considering they are the the adopted siblings of Twigpaw, a main character

Finally, more interestingly
Bramblestar, Squirrelflight’s mate, and one of my personal favorites

Art by Shadow-Ku

Spoilers for AVOS and Tigerheart’s Shadow below!!!

Dandelionkit and Juniperkit. Squirrelflight’s kits from
her litter that died.

Art by Shadow-Ku

Sparkpelt, who is amazing, but needs more time to shine.

Art by Shadow-Ku

And my all time favorite, Alderheart!

Art by Shadow-Ku

I could go on and on and on about him. But I won’t
Just know that I love my anxious ginger boy.

And lastly
New member of the Firestar family (through “marriage”)
Tigerstar (ll)

Art by Shadow-Ku

And the new kits

Art by Shadow-Ku

Pouncekit, Shadowkit, and Lightkit!

It’s funny how in the first series Firestar laments how he’s the only kittypet, that he has no kin of his own in ThunderClan, but now, in AvoS, he’s got tons of kin to look over from StarClan.

End of spoilers!

So that’s it. The complete Firestar family!
Hope you guys enjoyed.
I’m thinking of either doing Graystripe’s family or Tigerstar.
