Deputies That Should Have Been Leaders by Dusklight

Dusklight lists some warriors that could have been good leaders.

Hello, Dusklight here! This is my first article, and today I’ll be going into deputies that I think would have worked as leaders. There are many warriors that could have been leaders (*achem* Brackenfur) but for now, I’ll just focus on the deputies.

Whitestorm

After Firestar became leader, he was assigned the task of choosing the deputy. He was convinced to choose the obvious choice – Whitestorm, perhaps one of the most wise and experienced cats there is. It was a pity when he died in battle – Graystripe would make an excellent leader, but I don’t think he could ever replace Whitestorm.

Russetfur

Russetfur is probably one of the longer-living cats, for sure. She was a rogue at first, but preferred Clan life and decided to join ShadowClan. She was a loyal, strong warrior, eventually becoming Blackstar’s deputy. I personally think Blackstar lived too long – Russetfur should’ve gotten a chance to be leader! She was old when Lionheart killed her (in battle), and I think we all saw that coming eventually. But that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.

Stonefur

I think we can all agree Stonefur’s death was honorable yet sad (he was the one who was murdered because he was Half-Clan, remember?)

His sister, Mistystar, is a wonderful leader in RiverClan’s history, but Stonefur had the same potential as she did. He was wise, brave, forgiving, along with about a million other positive qualities (I honestly think they would make better leaders than Bluestar herself! I’m not really a Bluestar fan, but that’s for another topic) Anyway, it was unfair, and I blame his death on Leopardstar.*cries*

Lionheart

Oh, Tigerclaw, why did you have to kill such a brave, good-hearted warrior? I don’t think Lionheart would be one of the best leaders ThunderClan has had, but he was probably the best choice out of all of the Clan at the time. Definitely better than Tigerclaw, fox-heart that he is!

Cinderfur

Another deputy influenced by Tigerclaw’s actions. He was Nightstar’s deputy, but when Tigerclaw (then Tigerstar) took over the Clan, he lost his power. This is similar to Lionheart – we don’t really get enough evidence to see if he would make a good leader or not, but at least it would be better than Tigerstar! It wasn’t until I started looking into possible cats for this post that I realized how many lives Tigerstar affected.

Well, that’s it. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Do you have any other cats you think should have been included in this list? Leave a comment!

  • Nice article! 😀 Only thing I disagree with is that Mistystar and Stonefur would have been better than Bluestar 😛 (Bit biased because 2nd favorite character but whatever 😛 )

  • I suspect that both Whitestorm and Lionheart would not have wanted leadership roles and Tigerstar was a good leader for ShadowClan at the time. Obviously, not so much for ThunderClan, but he did leave ShadowClan in a better, stronger state than what they were in before he was leader and brought an air of intimidation to the shadowy pines once again. I mean, StarClan should never have let him receive nine lives, but the ShadowClan contingent had their reasons, and depending on your perspective, he was a good / bad leader for them. Plus, A Dangerous Path was the first Warriors book I read, so I’d have to consider it to be a good twist. 😛

However, I agree with Russetfur. She has some cool moments throughout the series (I like her interaction with Sasha in those manga in particular) and since I thought Rowanstar had minimal development before his reign as leader, it might have been nice to see her be promoted further. That said, even though I’m yet to read Darkest Night and River of Fire (so no spoilers please! 😛 ), Rowanstar’s relationship with Tigerheart helped to accelerate and add more to his rise to leadership, so he worked well as pretty much a plot device. And I agree too with Stonefur. His death was one of those where it felt like it was too early for him to go. Again, that said, his death helped to propel Mistystar into her leadership position, so it all does fit together appropriately.

Other deputies that could have been leaders:
    Hawkfrost
    — Was RiverClan’s deputy for a time. Could have made a good villainous leader.
    Mudclaw
    — Probably wouldn’t have been any worse than Onestar, though I did enjoy Onestar finally having some character development in AVoS.
    Sharpclaw
    — I thought he might have made it to SkyClan’s leadership position one day. His development suggested he could have.
    Lightning Tail
    — For obvious reasons, loyal and kind-hearted.

    And great article, btw! 🙂

      • LIGHTNING TAIL RULES! YES! HE IS DA BEST! I agreed with all of this, but did Lionheart get killed by Tigerclaw? Or is that just something i’ve forgotten . . . 😛 And I also agree with all of Eagleclaw’s points 🙂 this article was great!

(I’m sorry mods, i’m posting WAY too much! Here’s some virtual cookies for you. 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪)

  • Great article! Make one about possible warriors that could’ve been leaders! *cough* Brackenfur *cough*

  • I think you meant Lionblaze when you were talking about Russetfur 🙂 Anyway great article! I personally think Redtail should be on the list too though. (I liked him. I named myself after him in fact)

  • Cool article! These all sound like good leaders 🙂 I never considered Cinderfur before!

  • Good article, all these cats deserved to be leader but if they were the whole story line would change Whitestrom i would like to have been leader but that would mean firestar had to die earlier and cats wouldn’t have been born as Whitestorm was already quite old

  • I agree with all of your points 😸! These cats could be great leaders 😉. I think Sun Shadow (in DotC) can be a good one too, I hope he can be the leader at last.

  • Guys, this isn’t really about the article, but I can only post on articles now… If I try to go on other pages, I get logged out and even so, my comments don’t show up when I post them. Pls, help. But still, Dusklight, I agree with your article. 😛
