Ashpelt shares their opinion on Dovewing, pre-The Last Hope. Spoilers for OotS!
Note that I haven’t finished The Last Hope yet, so I’m not going to be doing anything after what I’ve read.
Now, I used to like her a bit- when she was still Dovepaw. But after Sign of the Moon, she just got worse. Now, I’m trying to like her, but I just can’t.
Let’s focus on the Tigerheart-Bumblestripe love triangle. It just came out of nowhere. Tigerheart went on a journey with Dovepaw, sure, but they hardly even interacted! Besides, there were other she-cats on the journey who WEREN’T still apprentices, like Petalfur.
Then suddenly at a Gathering they love each other. They hide in a bush and remember they went on a journey then suddenly they’re in love. Mainly because of “He/she is hot” than anything else. I swear that’s literally how it went. Bumblestripe’s love also came out of nowhere; Blossomfall says to Dovewing that he likes her and that’s all we get. It’s just too forced.
Then how Dovewing treats him; she keeps getting his hopes up and then bringing him down. It literally says that she only liked him as friend because he was ThunderClan. Then on a walk to the Gathering she trips him(though I understand this was accidental) and then insults him. After, Rosepetal convinces her to go and apologize. Bumblestripe doesn’t accept and has every right not to with the way she was treating him. He says he gets the hint and then Dovewing’s inner monologue is what annoys me.
Bumblestripe turned his head to look at her, his gaze hard as ice. โIโm tired of being used as your scratching post,โ he hissed. โFrom now on sharpen your claws on someone else.โ
Dovewingโs pelt pricked. โItโs not my fault!โ
โI get it, okay?โ He didnโt even look at her. He just kept running. โYou donโt like me the same way I like you. Iโll get over it. Iโm just disappointed youโre not the cat I thought you were.โ
Dovewing bristled. How dare he say that to her? She gave everything to the Clan, and he wanted more! It wasnโt fair.
And what Bumble said was right. Dove was really just using him as a scratching post; he’s merely standing up for himself. And since when did he know that Dove was part of the Three? He never even knew about the prophecy! And last time I checked, love wasn’t a crime. He doesn’t know about her powers and shouldn’t.
Anyway, that’s all I have. I don’t think she’s a Mary-Sue; she’s just unfair when she’s portrayed as fair.
I HATE DOVEWING!! She didn’t even care about her sister and what she thought. Ivypool, she spied and fought the Dark Forest cats! Ivypool risked her life, while Dovewing was not getting on her tail and was being a lazy mouse brain. Also, Dovewing says that she’s the traitor for going to the dark forest, well, look at you hanging out with a messed up ShadowClan cat two nights later! Whose the traitor now! Ivypool had every RIGHT to do what she did! Also, I believe that Hollyleaf should have been in the three instead of Dovewing. Hollyleaf was Jayfeather and Lionblaze’s sibling! She was also less of a brat and actually followed the code more than the both of them. Also, Hollyleaf made a sacrifice while Dovewing did nothing! aLsO, Ivypool made a huge life and death sacrifice also. She gave everything!
Yup!!! Thatโs right!!! I also stand with a post Iโve seen in the old blogClan site, โdovewing is a brat, she whined about wanting to be part of the prophecy after years whining about not wanting to..โ i mean, i just HATE HER
I think dovewing is fine! She risked pretty much everything for her clan and was brave enough to handle with all the insults she was getting! Just think about how hard it would be to leave your clan, your friends, your family and everything you know! Be nice to her!
what do you mean she wasnt sad/regretting when she left Thunderclan she was the one who made that decision. Also she got mad at tigerheart when she was the one who left him behind in tigerhearts shadow. And did Dovewing even have friends?????
@Lily foot, that was HER choice. She left everything for a ShadowClan tom. Tigerheart isn’t even a good mate. She even said that she picked “Love over her Clan” in front of her Clan! How do you think they felt? Plus what about Bluestar, Yellowfang, and a bunch of other cats? Bluestar gave up her kittens and her mate for the sake of her Clan. Yellowfang gave up love and killed her OWN kit to save the Clans! What did Dovewing give up? Nothing! She just left her Clan because she wanted to be happy. But she was really only thinking of HERSELF and not the other cats around her. She always says she’s “sorry” but sorry means you’ll change and you won’t do it again. Plus saying “sorry” all the time doesn’t change/fix things.

Woah, guys, be a little considerate here. Don’t just go yelling at someone for having opinions. the blog is supposed to be where HEALTHY DISCUSSIONS are taking place, not full on screaming.
Anyway, Even if it was her choice, Dovewing has the right to still miss her home. I’m sure everyone has made at least one choice in their lives that they regret, so why can’t she?
Thank you! I really hate Dovewing and to me she is a TOTAL jerk! She always whines and complains about everything! She was also a brat towards Bumblestripe! People are always like, “Oh, she gave up everything for her Clan!” No, she *barley* used her powers and became popular among her Clan. And when she left to join ShadowClan, that was HER decision! Though she’s also pretty stupid- She has dreams about the city, so she decides to leave ThunderClan with trained Warriors and go to a place she’s never been to before with dogs, rogues, cars, humans, etc. And when she returns Daisy evens says that every queen has nightmares! And nothing happened at the ThunderClan camp! She scared her sister and family to death, and she didn’t even seem to care! And then does on and says, “I’ve picked love over my Clan…” And then she expects them to be like ,”Oh okay! Have a good life!” And then they say she’s a traitor and Dovewing is like “I’m not a traitor!” This is the definition of a Traitor: “A person who betrays a friend, country, principle, etc.” So I think a Clan would count, wouldn’t you? Anyways, whenever Lionblaze asks her to use her powers, she always whines and complains. And what also bugs me is in the Fourth Apprentice, Dovewing was getting mad at Ivypool and was snapping at her and saying, “Tigerheart likes me! You’re just jealous!” When Ivypool clearly wasn’t! And when Hollyleaf killed Ashfur, Dovewing even thought to herself that a cat like that shouldn’t deserve respect! Well if you Pay Attention and read the chapter where they tell where Hollyleaf was attacked (Sorry but I’m to lazy to find the book/chapter, heh), it was Self Defense! Anyways there’s a lot more I can type but I don’t have the time. I’ll end in one more thing *Spoilers* – In the Newer book series, A Starless Clan: Thunder, page 177, Ivypool just ASKS Dovewing to talk to Tigerstar because, well, war is about to break out (Mainly because of Tigerstar being stubborn and ALWAYS thinking he’s right), and this is what Dovewing says:
“I’m not a leader,” Dovewing told her. “Or a Shadowclan’s deputy. And I’m not going to exploit my relationship with Tigerstar to make him change his mind.” Nobody asked you to! Ivypool just wants you to TALK to him so that war doesn’t break out! Or would you rather have that, Dovewing? Anyways:
” It’s unfair of you to ask me. You’re putting me in a difficult position. I don’t want to let my kin down, but I’m not going to betray my mate and Clan.” Guess what? Life lesson of the day: Life is unfair! Though I guess Dovewing STILL hasn’t learned that. And how is talking to Tigerstar “unfair” or “difficult”?
Continue:
“I’m not asking you to betray any cat,” Ivypool pressed. “But if you could just feel him out. Explain how much is at stake.” Because right now in the book, a LOT is at stake and Tigerstar won’t see other cat’s points of view- He thinks what he is doing is right (Like always) and won’t listen to anyone else!
“He knows how much is at stake,” Dovewing snapped. “Tigerstar’s not a fool. Neither am I.” Her tail was swishing angrily. “I’m not letting you manipulate me into manipulating him!”
Well Dovewing, clearly he DOESN’T know what’s at stake. And NOBODY said ANYTHING about him being a fool. And nobody said you were a fool either! They’re also NOT trying to manipulate him! They want you to simply talk to him because you’re the only cat he will listen to. Would you rather have war where cats die and there’s grief and pain or talk to him?
Anyways, that’s all for now. I really don’t like Dovewing and I have more against her incase whoever is reading this tries to deny/point out somethings that Ivypool did. Ivypool overall is more mature but I’m not getting into that, Also, I will debate if it’s necessary so keep that in mind.
Thank you.
