Ivystone shares a few songs and soundtracks that capture decisive scenes from the Warriors series. Spoilers for AVOS!
Hello, this is Ivystone and today I thought I’d try something different for an article. I thought I’d try my hand at doing an article series where I find a few songs and compare them to scene/event/Clan/characters in the Warriors series. The best part is that I get to write about something and find good music that Without any further ado, let’s begin! WARNING: IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING THE DRAGON QUEST SERIES AT ANY POINT, THIS MIGHT CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS FOR IT! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! (Seriously though, don’t if you plan to because the plot/games is/are really good.)

Dragon Quest IV – March of the Capricious Princess by Koichi Sugiyama
This song best suits Squirrelflight, the current deputy of ThunderClan. Why? Well, this song was based on Chapter 2 for Dragon Quest IV. Chapter 2 is about Princess Alena, who’s daughter of the King of Zamoskva. She dreams of becoming the strongest fighter alive, and against her father’s will, she embarks on a journey to prove her strength to the world, alongside her two companions Kiryl and Borya. Alena also immediately jumps on board to the mission to defeat the Lord of the Underworld alongside the Hero of Dragon Quest IV. Alena is very stubborn and is a definite spitfire, also unafraid to speak her mind. Once she decides to do something, she’s doing it and there’s no stopping her. Sound familiar to at least some extent? Squirrelflight.
We first meet Squirrelflight as a stubborn, headstrong apprentice, named Squirrelpaw. She’s the daughter of the hero of the Clans, leader of ThunderClan, the one and only Firestar. As an apprentice, Squirrelpaw embarked on a journey with Brambleclaw/star, Feathertail, Stormfur, Tawnypelt, and Crowpaw/feather to find Midnight, the badger that speaks cat tongue. Alena snuck out of the castle to embark on her journey, while Squirrelflight snuck out of ThunderClan territory to embark on her’s. Alena ends up helping defeat the Lord of the Underworld alongside the Hero of Dragon Quest IV and becomes a hero, while Squirrelflight becomes a hero in helping find the Clans’ new home beside the lake. Therefore, March of the Capricious Princess suits Squirrelflight to a tee.

Dragon Quest IV – Homeland by Koichi Sugiyama
Homeland by Koichi Sugiyama for the Dragon Quest Series best fits Violetshine and Twigbranch, the main POVs of AVoS (A Vision of Shadows). This song has more of a sad tone to it, and a sense of longing to it. This describes both Violetshine and Twigbranch’s longing for their homeland, to find where they came from. To find their family. This song is heard in Chapter 5 of Dragon Quest IV, when the Hero has lost their entire village after monsters attacking and burning the village down, all at the command of the Lord of the Underworld. Why did they attack the Hero’s small hometown in the first place? Well, it’s because the Hero happens to be the Chosen One, the one destined to defeat the Lord of the Underworld. The Hero is lost and is now surrounded by the unknown, missing to their homeland. At the end of the game, the Hero eventually reunites with their best friend from their hometown. Sound slightly familiar?
Violetshine and Twigbranch are from SkyClan, direct kin of Hawkwing and Pebbleshine, more distant kin of Sharpclaw, Cherrytail, Tinycloud, Sparrowpelt, Clovertail, Plumwillow, Sandynose, etc. SkyClan was driven from the Gorge by Darktail and his rogues, forcing them to flee. Some of SkyClan got disbanded, died, became kittypets, etc, while a couple remained with Leafstar and the Clan. Pebbleshine, who was pregnant with Hawkwing’s kits was taken by a Twoleg monster, and died shortly on the Thunderpath after giving birth to Violetshine and Twigbranch. Meaning, Violetshine and Twigbranch were separated from SkyClan, their homeland, and were lost in the unknown. When Alderheart and Needletail found them, they are thought to be “what you find in the shadows” because of the prophecy. So, they are thought to be special by the Clans and save them from their plight. Violetshine and Twigbranch become heroes in their own rights while in ShadowClan/Darktail’s Kin and ThunderClan, much like the Hero of Dragon Quest IV. Eventually, the two reunite with SkyClan and join it, finding their “homeland”. However, Twigbranch’s heart belongs to ThunderClan, much like how the Hero’s heart belonged to their traveling companions. But I can see this with all three- Twigbranch represents the Hero’s heart for their friends, and Violetshine represents their heart for their village/family. In short, this song makes sense with both Violetshine and Twigbranch’s story.

Dragon Quest VI – Inviting Village by Koichi Sugiyama
Inviting Village, eh…? Not much backstory to say here, except for the fact that it’s usually heard in the smaller villages or the ones that have a reputation of being friendly. Or making you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. Anyways. Makes me think of ThunderClan, the Clan most likely to take in rogues, kittypets, and loners…pretty inviting, huh? That’s most likely because of Firestar, ThunderClan’s previous leader. He’s seen as a welcoming and friendly leader, and welcomes in cats who need some place to stay. Another option that comes to mind is SkyClan, with their daylight warriors and rules. They allow visitors to stay with them as long as they carry out normal warrior duties like the rest of the Clan. And daylight warriors are warriors who stay with the Clan during the day, but sleep with their Twoleg’s at night. This also makes me think of the Guardian Cats, a group of cats we meet in Tigerheart’s Shadow. They help others, and are friendly to outsiders of their group. They aren’t even that hostile to other cats living nearby! All in all, I’d say that this would best represent ThunderClan, SkyClan, or the Guardian Cats, seeing as all three are pretty inviting.
So overall, the picks are:
March of the Capricious Princess – Princess Alena – Squirrelflight
Homeland – Hero of Dragon Quest IV – Violetshine and Twigbranch
Inviting Village – ThunderClan, SkyClan, and the Guardian Cats
Do you agree with my choices of songs for these cats/groups? How do you feel about them? How do you feel about my article series? This is part 1 of Splitting Spiels, so far I have 8-9 parts planned. 😛 Anyways, this was Ivystone and I’m out! (ALSO I VERY MUCH RECOMMEND LISTENING TO THE MUSIC LISTED BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME)
Great article! Very intriguing and well-written. Nice job. 🙂
Yay, it’s published! This is probably the shortest article I’ve ever written, but yeah. 😛

I’ll listen to the songs when I get a chance but they seem to fit very nicely with the characters, based on what you said! I do remember writing something like this over a year ago now. Very well done! 😀
I’ll listen to these songs, but they seem fitting!
