Elections, Day 4: The Fourth Medicine Cat Hustings!

Our fourth round of Medicine Cat Election hustings! Meet candidates Moonbreeze, Mapledrift, and Crystalshine.

Welcome back, BlogClanners! Today is the fourth and final day of the Medicine Cat hustings! Applications are closed!

Today answering your questions are Moonbreeze, Mapledrift, and Crystalshine! Please be accepting and give your best questions to our candidates! 😉

Candidates may use the comments below as a space to put their campaign, and the amazing members of BlogClan can use the comments as a space to ask questions, such as: why do you want this position? What are some good qualities you have? What are your flaws?

If you are still confused on hustings, they were explained fully in the first 2019 Elections post by Winterwhisper. You can find that here!

I’ll now hand it over to our candidates! Good luck to all!

Moonbreeze

Sensible, thoughtful, committed

There are quite a few reasons why I would like this position. To begin, I’ll go over the obvious – I joined the Blog on November 3rd, 2017 and have been active ever sense, except for a few week break when school occupied me more than usual. This means I have been active for approximately 1 year and 7 months. I comment at least once a day (usually more) and on a variety of pages, including the Tavern, Hug Page, Discussion Pages, New Members Page, Spoiler Pages, Fanfiction Page, and more. In addition, I (when I have time) reply to every comment on the Tavern. I’d also like to discuss how important the Blog is to me, and prove that I’m a very dedicated member. The Blog is to me, like many others, a place where I can feel safe and happy. To me, that wasn’t a place I had in my life before BlogClan. You may wonder why it’s different for me supposed to others and I’ll admit – it really isn’t. But I also want to talk about the impact the Blog has made on my life. Lately, (hooray for becoming a teenager) I’ve felt a little down, and have started snapping at my friends, losing my temper more and more, and actually becoming a slightly rude person. I hate that about myself. But the Blog was different – I grew friendlier and kinder, funnier and brighter. The Blog was a new “me,” where I could be the person I wanted to be. Because sometimes your real self is disappointing. BlogClan became a chance for me to fix myself, and be seen as the person I wanted to. I want to be a friend, a role model, a mentor to others, I want to have that chance, even if real life me can never seen to get her act together. However, BlogClan is another chance for me to start again, where I have the time to take some deep breaths and be better. And today, with the people I’m around, I always try and ask myself, “What would Moon do?” Because even if Moon is me, I can always help control myself by thinking of how the situation would be different if it was simply on BlogClan. And oftentimes, it helps calm me down. Now, I’ve had some harder times in the past year on BlogClan than some others – I lost both of my best BlogClan friends before our Clanniversaries. I lost my entire friend group (if you want to know, included Silverleaf, Ottersong, Loudfern, Dawnbringer, Beechflight, Leaf Lost In Blizzard, and Skysong, who still pops in every now and then) in a few months. It felt horrible, because these online friends felt so real to me, and were better to me than many of my real life companions. I’m the only one left. Because even after I lost them all, I still knew there was no way I could leave – BlogClan means, and meant, so much to me that being without it wouldn’t help at all. I would finally like to address the duties of a medicine cat, which are as follows: They welcome the newest members of BlogClan and play an active role on the New Members page. I think I would be especially good at this part, as I feel that I’m a more friendly person being on the Blog. I also try to comment on the New Members page, and guide the newer members that have questions. I want to help other people use the Blog and find a safe place like I did. They act as a go-between with BlogTeam and BlogClan, being one of the most useful points of contact between these two parts of the community. They do not necessarily have to be a part of the moderator team, but they can give ideas and support. As you may know, I did apply for BlogTeam in the most recent role opening. I didn’t get a position, but if I do earn the medicine cat role, I would be so pleased to be a part of the BlogTeam communication. They keep the community content, making sure every member of the site feels happy and involved. I always try to help out everybody around me, and comfort those who feel down. I want to help others find BlogClan to be a happy and welcoming place like I did, so that it’ll impact them as positively as it did me. The Medicine Cat will choose a Medicine Cat Apprentice (that won’t necessarily be their current apprentice). When it comes to choosing an apprentice, I think I could be fair and logical when choosing somebody. As I mentioned, I don’t have any particularly close friends anymore. I feel that this would prevent me from being biased, and I would truly look into the qualities of other members when choosing. In conclusion, I hope this helps prove why I would be a good medicine cat.

Mapledrift

Bubbly, friendly, organised

Hello BlogClan !! For whose who don’t know me, I’m Mapledrift, mainly known as Maple around the blog, and I would love to be considered for medicine cat alongside all the other totally awesome people who are applying (shout out to y’all, you’re all 110% incredible) But anyway, lets get onto the actual reasons ! From the moment I joined BlogClan, I have never known a friendlier place, and as many of the older moderators may have known from my constant nagging, asking if I could help in anyway, I have always been keen to give something back to the place that helped me discover myself and be proud of what I love, instead of hiding it. I still remember the day (coming close to 2 years ago now ! ) when I typed out a comment at 6:00pm, and went to look after my rats, whilst staring at the screen patiently waiting for a reply. Luckily, poor young me who had very little understanding of moderation did not end up sat there staring at “Your comment is awaiting moderation” for two hours, a certain Sundance swiftly appeared, moderating and replying to my comment. By this point you are probably wondering where on earth this is going, and don’t worry, I’ll hopefully get to the point soon. That initial comment gave me a nickname instantly, one I still use today, and made me feel instantly welcome, Sunny was so kind and funny I was immediately able to start talking, even if it was just complimenting names right back at people. Thinking back, had it not been for all the wonderful people who replied to me, I may never had stayed here so long, and everything awesome that has happened to me here you can trace right back to a few kind comments. Seeing how active Sunny was inspired me to do the same. Ever since then I have wanted to help welcoming new members as much as possible, and although my schedule recently has been forcing me to be a little less active then usual, I always desperately want to be that person for someone else, the one who gives a few kind words, starts up a conversation and hopefully, bringing an awesome person into BlogClan. I believe that as medicine cat I would be able to do just that, inspire new members to be active, and jump right into BlogClan and maybe even think “woah, maybe some day I can be like this.” Now I’ve probably bored you guys half to death with my BlogClan life story so I’m going to move on to qualities that I believe show that I could be a great medicine cat ! I am an incredibly optimistic person, so will always be sure to greet others with a (virtual) smile and a (virtual) hug. I generally love talking to others, as you can probably tell by this slowly growing paragraph of text which looks quite intimidating but I promise you, this is just an example of me getting a little lost in chatting and saying stuff, probably proving my point that I really, really love to talk. Whilst this is probably something that would be put more in a campaign for deputy, I’m going to say it here because well, should we just limit ourselves to the exact job description, or should be shake up the roles that we take so that they fit perfectly to us, instead of being slightly uncomfortable as you try to fit into a role someone else once filled without changing a thing. I realise I am rambling again so let me get back to the point, I am a great problem solver, whether that comes to technical issues with the blog (believe me I have probably seen all the technical issues by this point, I know what’s up 😛 ) to trying to work out the route of an issue between blog members and the best way to sort out any arguments. Sort of leading on from that point (actually not that much but I liked that sentence and now don’t want to delete it), I am a very organised person ! Now you may all be wondering, well how exactly does this help you being a medicine cat, and prepare yourselves for Maple struggling to put her thoughts into vaguely understandable words 🙂 Lots of people sadly struggle to manage BlogClan life and real life, and trust me, I have been there, but recently I have found ways to be active almost daily without many exceptions. Like I was saying earlier, when your welcoming new members, the comments that really make you smile are the ones that have come so quickly and flooded in, many people rarely check back at their welcome post after a few days, so with my current activity, everyday I would be able to greet any new members there are ! Organisation is also a very useful skill to have when communicating issues or feedback to the BlogTeam, as you are able to decide which problems you could manage yourself, or perhaps another BlogClanner may know , and which are important to feedback. I am also a very friendly and bouncy person, who isn’t afraid to have a good joke now and then, which makes me a very fun candidate for medicine cat ! I could go on rambling about what traits I have, but really what counts is the experiences that show you may be a good person to fill the role, so this is what I’m about to do ! Firstly, you probably all knew I would bring it up, my roleplays, the most famous being The Tests. When I made these, I didn’t really plan for them to get known, I simply noticed that there was a gap in the blog that no one was filling and that many people may enjoy. What many of you may not know is that I had never roleplayed either at that point, and still I decided to throw myself out there to try and bring people all across the blog, from different little groups of people, new members and older members all together to just have fun. I think my roleplays are my biggest and most obvious example of me giving up lots of my time and showing commitment to the blog, I knew the plot probably wouldn’t be the best, and the mechanics of it all were very likely to be weird, but still, the roleplays fulfilled their purpose, and now loads and loads of people on the blog are passionate roleplayers, we even have a whole discussion page now !!! I said earlier that I am good at taking jokes and trying to have a laugh with people, and I guess the biggest example of this is probably what usually goes down on the shipping discussion page….. I won’t say much more for my own sanity 😛 but I’m sure anyone who hasn’t seen that joke will soon be informed of it in the comments 😛 All around the blog I try and contribute as much as possible, and I always try out a variety of things, even if some aren’t my favourite, from games to name generators, to polls, you probably see me pop up in random places every so often, which just shows how involved I am with BlogClan. I’ve kind of gone off track to why I would be good for the position so let me bring it back for a second. Over all my time on BlogClan the kindness and compassion that everyone shows, especially seen on the Hug Page is incredible, and I would love to give something back and help out with keeping that amazing atmosphere going however possible, whether that be helping out on the live chat if a disagreement starts, talking to people on the hug page about their problems and trying to find the best solution or simply just being a happy and constant presence on the whole of the blog, I really hope that being medicine cat would give me and chance to be a role model for newer blogclanners, like Sunny , Icy and Embix were to me when I first joined the blog. I will take any opportunity I can to help, and it would be incredible if you could give me the chance. I may not be able to come up with the wittiest, funniest or most relatable remarks and I may fall through at having the free time to reply to every comment on the tavern and perhaps I am not the best at continuing my fanfics or games past the first or second edition, but what really matters is that I constantly try my hardest to give something back to blogclan, and hopefully this can be my chance. I know every other person who is running is incredible and stands a really really good chance at winning, and please, vote for who you think suits the role best, not your friends. It would be awesome if you would even consider me as someone who has a chance of getting your vote, it means so much to me. As one last point I have something to say I don’t really think the three word explanation for me is really fitting, but you see I think what I actually want to put needed a little more explaining So, here is the real, final description of myself in three simple words Here to help Thank you for reading, and if you have any questions just ask away 🙂

Crystalshine

Bright, caring, hardworking

Hey guys! ❤️ BlogClan has became another home to me – I’m totally obsessed with this community, and everyone here has their very own charm (❤️). Being elected medicine cat will be my greatest honor here, and I’ll never be happier and more psyched that that! I will continue to contribute and help BlogClan with all my ability as long as I can, be more active, welcome new members, hug BlogClanners on the Hug Page (why does this sentence seem so… funny? :P), make friends with everyone, make everyone feel loved and welcomed… – being elected medicine cat or not. BlogClan is already perfectly wonderful, but… everyone of us BlogClanner is making our amazing and lovely community more amazing and lovely!! 😀 At last, I wanna say, I love you all soooooooooooooooo much (that will never, ever change) and good luck to everyone running for MC and Dep because you REALLLY deserve it!!! ❤️

Well, that’s a wrap on hustings! Thank you to our amazing candidates that applied! I can’t wait to meet our next Medicine Cat! 😀

The first round of voting will begin tomorrow!

  • Good luck to all the people running! You’d all make great medicine cats and I’m proud of all of you. Really making the choice harder on a lot of voters. 🙂

  • My brain hurts from reading so much. I was going to read the answers to the other questions but I still have to look at the possible deputies and I don’t think my brain can comprehend this much 😛

Pancakes or waffles??? I’ll judge you based on the answer of this one question…

    DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

    Help

  • Leaving the three longest speeches for last 😛

    – What is one change that you want to make to BlogClan to help new members feel more “in the loop”?

    – What’s an example of an introduction that you would say to new members on the Please Introduce Yourself Page?

    • Oooof yeah I noticed that 😛

One change I would make….. that’s a great question ! I would say that more contests, a bigger push on talking to new members and just generally more encouragement for people to visit the new members page would be awesome. One idea I had to get people involved quickly is a little new member trivia that I could run on the new members page. Every time there is a new page I can post a question addressed to new and old members and hopefully it will lead to some discussions. A big change I would like to see is a page more clearly set up to show the workings and showcase different pages of blogclan, a bit like the introduction page with little bits from certain members about different pages. Say someone who often uses the fanfic page writes a bit about how that works, and someone who is constantly on the tavern tells people a bit about that. It would mean lots of stuff could be organised in one page for members to take a look at every so often !

Well, my introductions honestly vary so much from how much time I have spare to type something out and the info new members give in their comment ! But I’ll try and give a general thing

Heya !! I’m Mapledrift, but I’m mostly called Maple around the blog because its just so much easier to type, so you can as well ! (honestly though, those 5 extra letters are just so unnecessary 😛 ) I’ve been here for quite a while now, BlogClan is a super cool place and I think you’ll love your time here. I’m a massive book fan, I’ve read loads of stuff like six of crows, harry potter, the hate u give and some much other stuff I can’t even start listing it 😛 Who’s your favourite warrior cats character ? I love minor characters personally ! If you want to start chatting to loads of people the tavern is probably the best place to go, and if you have any questions just come to me, or anyone else, everyone will be happy to help !
      See you around !!!!!

Obviously comments would be more personalised, I usually come up with a nickname for new members and talk about something they have said, from their fursona, to their name to any interests they have expressed 🙂

    • I would really like to update the welcome page! 😀 I understand that a lot of the members who introduced themselves aren’t around anymore ( 🙁 ), and maybe some newer faces that the new members would then actually meet around the Blog later would be a smart idea! In addition, I want to make sure every page has quick, clear, and simple directions so that new members will take the time to read the few sentences and will feel like they understand what’s going on (and will hopefully feel less left out!). 🙂

Hm… it varies, but I’d go with something like this:
Hi [insert new member name here]! I’m Moonbreeze, but you can call me Moon 😀 Welcome to BlogClan! This site is such an amazing place, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to ask me!
And then if they mentioned anything about stuff they like, I would add “I like [insert liked thing here] too!”

    • Both of y’all say that a change that could be made is a diagram for new members to find their way around BlogClan’s technicalities so I’m presenting an idea 😛 I’ve already showed this to embix too so I’m sorta reposting

Oof I know I’m not running but I always thought that it would be nice to have a page like “How to Navigate BlogClan” with diagrams explaining like where the reply button is, explaining secret pages and how to find them, describing roles in BlogClan like mentors, deputy, medicine cat, etc. all in one place that’s constantly available and easy to find for new members. It’s just something that I often see new members asking about, and also something that I wished that I had when I came so that BlogClan was less confusing 😀

    • I agree with Maple and Moon! I suppose we should add a “What’s New?” (something like that) heading below the”Coming Soon” heading and write stuff like the Schedule of the Elections. If the new members wants to get more news we have like on the Tavern, a little scroll box should be added on the New Members Page.

      Gonna post more soon! 😛

      • Hiiiiiiii *insert new member’s name*, WELCOME TO BLOGCLAN!!!!!! I love your name, it’s so pretty!! Can we call you *insert nickname*? 😛
I’m Crystalshine, Crystie for short! Aww, this site is incredibly amazing! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or any of us! Which character from Warriors is your favorite? Mine is Squirrelflight!! 😛
        Love ya!! <3

    • Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu, good luck to you as well !!!!!!!! You’d make an awesome med cat !!
I knew it was you !!! You got my fursona spot on Icy !!!! THank youuuuuuu I was going to draw my own but ya know… show week and artfight ! I’m going to try and draw all nine people who are going for med cat though 😀

      • Thank you. 🙂

I had a lot of fun doing it! I haven’t drawn digitally in forever, so it was nice.

        • ooooo speedy mod icy !!! Are you excited for the elections, I’m excited and nervous but keeping my expectations low, everyone is so awesome I’ll be surprised to get many votes !

          • Gotta go fast!

You could say I’m excited. 🙂 But I was a candidate last time, so I know the ropes. 😛 I have no expectations and I know all of our candidates are lovely. 🙂

You’re awesome, Maple! I wouldn’t be surprised to see you leaving me in the dust. 😉

  • Ahh nooo I can’t just choose one of you! All of you would/will make such great Med cats <3
Here's a question: are you confident that you'll win? (:

  • AHHHH HOW SHALL I EVER CHOOSE?!
Oki, one question for y’all 😉 (Because I’m evil :P)
Have you ever had experience with drama? If so, how did you deal then? How would you deal as medicine cat?

Ahaha, I have one more question for a particular Mappledapple 😛
To Peter, or not to Peter?
There is only one correct answer, mind you
The whole world awaits your answer, which will determine whether or not I vote for you >:)
(jk I’ll vote for you anyways bc you totally deserve it :P)

    • As far as I can remember I have never been involved in drama on the blog, but in real life I have had a lot of drama to deal with. To begin with I always tried to talk it out with the person involved and try and see what the actual problem was and find a solution. If a solution couldn’t be reached I always went to someone who was more capable of fixing the problem. If I had to deal with it as medicine cat, I would do a similar thing, see both sides and try and understand how the drama was caused before working out a fair way to fix it. In the case of drama escalating and my assistance not working I would get help from members of the blogteam as there is no shame in asking for help if you are unsure of how to deal with a problem 🙂

      TO PETER
Peter is an incredibly complex and interesting character who both redeems himself and makes himself the villain many times, causing him to be a morally grey character. Although he might not be the nicest he is interesting toread about, and I really felt for him as he regretted his life choices so much that he just wanted everything to be gone even the good parts. You may not like him, but Peter is a well written character who’s actions have a massive impact on the plot

awwwwwww thanks Iris don’t discriminate against peter fans please thank you ;P

      • I’m not discriminating against Peter fans! 😛
Tbh with all these arguments we’ve had you’ve convinced me to like Peter, and at this point I only press my point to oppose you 😉
        It’s true
        Happy now?!
I have laid my most secretest secret before you- I actually no longer hate him.
(Although I still believe that erasing all his memories was a coward move)
        (but besides that)

        • AHHHHH I HAVE CONVERTED HIM

It was not a coward move, can you think of any possible way he could have fixed what he had done apart from that ? Many people would have never forgiven him and he would have never been able to have a normal life. He knew that, and that’s why he wiped his memories

          • Peter is not a “good” person, but I like him as a character because I think erasing his memory was actually very courageous. Like Maple said, he acknowledged that his previous actions had been wrong and unforgivable to some if not most or all, and knew what he had to do, even though it was a difficult decision.

I love the Divergent series so much tho

    • I never involoved in drama on the Blog, but I dealt with many drama irl. Irl and on the Blog, I’ll try to find the problem with the person involved and think of a solution. If I suppose I can’t handle it, I will ask another person/a BlogTeam member for help.

      Is this too short?! 😛

  • Hi I’m Gingerfur and I’m new here but I think you all would make a good medicine cat ( I know a lot about medicine cat stuff so I can give you tips if you like) and I’m trying to log in so you might not see me for a little bit wish me luck and I wish you luck ( I already do)

    • Hi, Ginger! Thanks for the vote of confidence to all our candidates (indeed they were all fantastic!), but our elections have ended 🙂 our Medicine Cat is Iceflower, or Icy! 😀
