And that’s a wrap, folks!
Hey, everyone! Welcome to the penultimate elections post for 2019. Get hyped! The polls have closed, the votes have been cast, and we are nearly ready to share the results with you!
But first, let’s officially wrap up this election with a recap, some speeches, and some very nifty graphs
(if I do say so myself 😉 )
So, let’s recap these elections! We had 9 lovely candidates for each role at the start. We ended up having fewer applicants than expected, so we cut out a hustings post and reduced the number of finalists for each to 3 candidates! That means, statistically, each of you had a 33.333% chance of moving on 😉
We had 100 voters for the first round of Medicine Cat elections and 101 for Deputy! Did you find it difficult to vote? I certainly did 😛
Our finalists moved on to the next and last round of voting, where we each had just one vote.
(Making voting for this round even harder than the previous one 😛 ). Congratulations to Mapledrift, Iceflower, Frostfire, Emberdawn, Jayfrost, and Winterwhisper for moving on! And a big congratulations to all of our other candidates 😀
Now we have some speeches from our lovely past Medicine Cat and past Deputy! Jayfrost and Flowerstream, you two have been exceptional leaders and members of this community. Thank you for devoting so much time to being here!
BlogClan is a very special community. It always has been, even since I joined over seven years ago, when I was still in high school. The internet can be a divisive place; anonymity gives people the courage to lash out at each other without consequence, and drama can build and fester so easily in online communities. But I didn’t see that when I joined BlogClan. What I saw was a friendly, welcoming community where new members were greeted enthusiastically, debates were lively but respectful, and creativity and enthusiasm for the books was encouraged at each turn.
Over the years, BlogClan has been a sea of calm for me to turn to when other things in my life were making me anxious, and I hope it has been the same for many of you. I have always been passionate about making this community a safe place for fans to discuss the series we all love, and I hope that whoever the new deputy is will be just as passionate about that goal. No community will ever be perfect, and there will always be obstacles. But as long as we remain kind to each other, keep a cool head when faced with opposition, and try to diffuse hostile situations rather than react with anger, we will be doing our best to make BlogClan a positive place for everyone. This is good for everyone to remember, but especially for a deputy to remember, and to try and implement in everything they do for the blog. They should always remember to be encouraging, and to try and engage their fellow fans, and to be as fair as possible.
I know I haven’t been as active these past few months as I’ve been in years past. But BlogClan will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope to be more active in the days and months to come. For now, however, I simply wish to say good luck to everyone in the running, and to pass on my best wishes to whoever becomes the new deputy.
Hi everyone. I’d like to start off by saying how honored I am to have served as BlogClan’s Medicine Cat for two wonderful years. All of you are amazing people, and I can truly say I will forever cherish my experience in this wonderful community. Furthermore, I’m so incredibly proud of how well everyone has done in this year’s elections, as well as how far this site has come in the years since I first joined. I’m more than happy that BlogClan is a welcoming community as well as a safe and comforting place to be, and that is because of how kind and thoughtful all of you are. I hope our new medicine cat and deputy will only further improve upon BlogClan’s environment, though I have complete faith in them when I say I know they will continue to positively contribute to BlogClan and make it an even better place than it already is. In particular, speaking from my experience as medicine cat, I hope that the new medicine cat —whoever you are— will frequent places such as the New Members’ Page and the Hug Page. It is partly the responsibility of the medicine cat to foster the warm environment of our beloved Blog, making sure new members feel welcome and that everyone feels the love and comfort they deserve.Reflecting upon my time as medicine cat, I know there were things I could have done better. I know I disappeared for a little bit and I’m regretful that I couldn’t have dedicated more of my time to all of you. This message is directed in particular to the new medicine cat, though I’m sure all of you can understand and relate to it: real life may get in the way, it might be difficult to consistently be here. That’s okay. All I ask of you is that you remember why you wanted this position, why you were elected into this position, and with that knowledge, be the best you can be. Most importantly, you’re medicine cat now, make this position yours. Do all you can to better BlogClan. I’m proud of you. Lastly, I’m speaking to everyone when I say this: I love and appreciate all of you. I’m grateful to have found BlogClan and it’s been an absolute pleasure serving as medicine cat for the past couple of years. I’m proud of everyone who ran, and I’m proud of everyone who is a member of the Blog. Thanks everyone 🙂
Last but not least, I have some pretty snazzy graphs to share with you! I wonder what they could mean… 😉
Thank you everyone for participating in the 2019 elections! I’ve had a ton of fun and I hope you all have, too! To all our candidates: thank you so much for offering up your time to answer all the hustings questions and just being a wonderful member of our community. To whomever our incoming Deputy and Medicine Cat turns out to be: Congratulations, and I’m sure you’ll do a wonderful job acting as leaders for our community! <3
Get hyped! Results go out tomorrow 😀
Oh and remember to come to the movie night today (July 13) at 2p.m. EST! Check out the post by Jayie on the Blog for information about it! 😀 Hope to see you there!
