Elections, Day 12: Wrap-Up!

We Wrap-Up the events of the Elections and showcase speeches from our former Deputy and Medicine Cat.

And that’s a wrap, folks!

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the penultimate elections post for 2019. Get hyped! The polls have closed, the votes have been cast, and we are nearly ready to share the results with you!

But first, let’s officially wrap up this election with a recap, some speeches, and some very nifty graphs (if I do say so myself 😉 )

So, let’s recap these elections! We had 9 lovely candidates for each role at the start. We ended up having fewer applicants than expected, so we cut out a hustings post and reduced the number of finalists for each to 3 candidates! That means, statistically, each of you had a 33.333% chance of moving on 😉

We had 100 voters for the first round of Medicine Cat elections and 101 for Deputy! Did you find it difficult to vote? I certainly did 😛

Our finalists moved on to the next and last round of voting, where we each had just one vote. (Making voting for this round even harder than the previous one 😛 ). Congratulations to Mapledrift, Iceflower, Frostfire, Emberdawn, Jayfrost, and Winterwhisper for moving on! And a big congratulations to all of our other candidates 😀

Now we have some speeches from our lovely past Medicine Cat and past Deputy! Jayfrost and Flowerstream, you two have been exceptional leaders and members of this community. Thank you for devoting so much time to being here!

BlogClan is a very special community. It always has been, even since I joined over seven years ago, when I was still in high school. The internet can be a divisive place; anonymity gives people the courage to lash out at each other without consequence, and drama can build and fester so easily in online communities. But I didn’t see that when I joined BlogClan. What I saw was a friendly, welcoming community where new members were greeted enthusiastically, debates were lively but respectful, and creativity and enthusiasm for the books was encouraged at each turn.

Over the years, BlogClan has been a sea of calm for me to turn to when other things in my life were making me anxious, and I hope it has been the same for many of you. I have always been passionate about making this community a safe place for fans to discuss the series we all love, and I hope that whoever the new deputy is will be just as passionate about that goal. No community will ever be perfect, and there will always be obstacles. But as long as we remain kind to each other, keep a cool head when faced with opposition, and try to diffuse hostile situations rather than react with anger, we will be doing our best to make BlogClan a positive place for everyone. This is good for everyone to remember, but especially for a deputy to remember, and to try and implement in everything they do for the blog. They should always remember to be encouraging, and to try and engage their fellow fans, and to be as fair as possible.

I know I haven’t been as active these past few months as I’ve been in years past. But BlogClan will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope to be more active in the days and months to come. For now, however, I simply wish to say good luck to everyone in the running, and to pass on my best wishes to whoever becomes the new deputy.

Hi everyone. I’d like to start off by saying how honored I am to have served as BlogClan’s Medicine Cat for two wonderful years. All of you are amazing people, and I can truly say I will forever cherish my experience in this wonderful community. Furthermore, I’m so incredibly proud of how well everyone has done in this year’s elections, as well as how far this site has come in the years since I first joined. I’m more than happy that BlogClan is a welcoming community as well as a safe and comforting place to be, and that is because of how kind and thoughtful all of you are. I hope our new medicine cat and deputy will only further improve upon BlogClan’s environment, though I have complete faith in them when I say I know they will continue to positively contribute to BlogClan and make it an even better place than it already is. In particular, speaking from my experience as medicine cat, I hope that the new medicine cat —whoever you are— will frequent places such as the New Members’ Page and the Hug Page. It is partly the responsibility of the medicine cat to foster the warm environment of our beloved Blog, making sure new members feel welcome and that everyone feels the love and comfort they deserve.Reflecting upon my time as medicine cat, I know there were things I could have done better. I know I disappeared for a little bit and I’m regretful that I couldn’t have dedicated more of my time to all of you. This message is directed in particular to the new medicine cat, though I’m sure all of you can understand and relate to it: real life may get in the way, it might be difficult to consistently be here. That’s okay. All I ask of you is that you remember why you wanted this position, why you were elected into this position, and with that knowledge, be the best you can be. Most importantly, you’re medicine cat now, make this position yours. Do all you can to better BlogClan. I’m proud of you. Lastly, I’m speaking to everyone when I say this: I love and appreciate all of you. I’m grateful to have found BlogClan and it’s been an absolute pleasure serving as medicine cat for the past couple of years. I’m proud of everyone who ran, and I’m proud of everyone who is a member of the Blog. Thanks everyone 🙂

Last but not least, I have some pretty snazzy graphs to share with you! I wonder what they could mean… 😉

Thank you everyone for participating in the 2019 elections! I’ve had a ton of fun and I hope you all have, too! To all our candidates: thank you so much for offering up your time to answer all the hustings questions and just being a wonderful member of our community. To whomever our incoming Deputy and Medicine Cat turns out to be: Congratulations, and I’m sure you’ll do a wonderful job acting as leaders for our community! <3

Get hyped! Results go out tomorrow 😀

Oh and remember to come to the movie night today (July 13) at 2p.m. EST! Check out the post by Jayie on the Blog for information about it! 😀 Hope to see you there!

  • To Jayie:
Thank you for serving the Blog as deputy for so long! Even though we’ve never talked a lot, I know you’re a great deputy and very dedicated to BlogClan, because of all the planning you’ve done, and the beautiful art you make for each chapter of Trailing Stars. 🙂
    To Flo:
Thank you for being the Blog’s medicine cat for the past two years! Even though I don’t know you very well, when I met you for the first time on Live Chat, I understood what a kind, funny, relaxed person you are, and why you were elected. 💖
    To Icy:
You’re great at giving advice! Every time I’ve needed to rant on Discord, you’ve been there to help and give hugs or advice. You’re so kind to everyone and give them great advice. You’ve made me feel better many times on the Hug Page. ♥️
    To Maple:
You’re another great advice giver! And also an awesome role play runner! You’re kind and welcoming to new members, and you were really nice to me when I posted my character on the wrong page on your role play. Your love for BlogClan is amazing.💙
    To Frosto:
You write great poems! You have a kind and warm heart to every member, and you’re an active BlogClanner who shows their love for everyone. 💜
    To Embix:
Thank you for being an awesome article scheduler, and being super patient when I wanted my article to be published on a specific day. You always answer questions well and you’re very dedicated to the Blog. 😊
    To Wint:
You’ve been on the Blog for so long and you’ve been very dedicated and involved! Your fanfics are great, you’re a big part of BlogClan Wikia and a bunch of roleplays, and you always give hugs and support on the Hug Page. 🧡
    To Jayie:
    (see top)

  • Blogclan is truly an amazing place 😸. Thank you Jayie and Flo 😺! I can’t wait to see the results 😆!

  • thank you, Jayie and Flo, and here’s to another two years of a wonderful medicine cat and deputy! 😀 <3

  • Ooh those graphs are making me so curious 😛
Everyone who ran, you. are. the. best. all of you! I’m not going to thank you individually cause I’m lazy, but even if you’re not in the top 6, you would have made an amazing Medicine cat/Deputy. I love all of you so, so much *hugs* and GOOD LUCK!!! <333

  • You guys are all clearly overthinking the graph. It’s showing the best way to slice a pie. Come on.

  • Ooh I’m excited to see the results tomorrow (at least for me) and the meanings of the pie charts (besides displaying the optimal way to slice a pie) 😛 Thank you so much to Flo and Jayie! Since I joined the Blog a few months ago, I had already heard of how much you guys had done for the blog already, and then I got to see it for my self, and I was even more thankful that we had you <3 You two are amazing, and I hope that the new deputy and medicine cat will aim to do at least just as much, but more importantly, make the blog better by just being the kind and wonderful people that they are 😀

Good luck to all the candidates (oof I've said that at least six times this whole election 😛 )! I've said this many times before, and I'm sure you've heard it even more than me: You guys all deserve these positions. Each of you are amazing and unique in your own way, and not getting the position doesn't change who you are or how much you're worth in any way! Everybody, not just the people running or people in positions of authority, can change this Blog for the better, because it is a democracy (even if Kate is the dictator we can pretend that we're a democracy 😛 ) and the vast majority of the people reflect the atmosphere and feeling of this blog. Fortunately, most people on this blog are kind, funny, talented, welcoming people, and we're all little drops of rain that create a storm (of happiness, not the droopy depressing type of storm) 😀 Keep being awesome everybody, especially the candidates to prepare for the big news tomorrow! <3

  • To Flo, Jayie and Birchy:

Even if I wasn’t on BlogClan in 2017, you guys did an amazing job serving med cat, med cat apprentice and deputy positions. Thank you for everything you’re done to make the blog a great place. 😀

  • Will Flo and Jayie stay as mods after the new med cat and deputy replace them?
