  • Ok, I just read this. FINALLY. And I’m like, 99.99999999999999999999999999999 percent certain that the Imposter is Ashfur. The whole Bristlefrost thinking her leader’s eyes were blue thing, the Squirrelflight quote “He just seems so familiar,” or something like that. The thing the Imposter said, the “I came back for you” thing…
    It has to be Ashfur!

And now for my other thoughts.

I was actually kinda sad when Berrynose died. I knew it happened, because of accidental spoilers, but it was still sad.

And Rosepetal, and Stemleaf. Their deaths were sad too. :C
And Sandynose- he always seemed nice, and it’s too bad we didn’t get a chance to really get to know him. He was never a major character, and I wish he could have lived.
    BRISTLEXROOOOOOOT!!!!!!

I LOVE BristleXRoot. They’re so cute, and I’m hoping that they’ll actually become mates in Darkness Within!

    AND OH MY GOOOOOOSH!!!!!

    SPIRESIGHT!

I was so HAPPY when he showed up! He’s awesome!

Also, Mistystar really acts strange in this book… is there a SECOND Imposter?

And who would be possessing her?

    Hawkfrost?

I know his spirit is dead, but what if it’s still roaming…
    and is in Mistystar…

    That would be great!

Not great for RiverClan, obviously, but umm a very great plot twist!

    AND ALSO: I LOVE FLIPCLAW.

He’s kinda like Graystripe, sorta chatty and cheerful and happy.

He’s like the Graystripe of TBC.

Ok, so those were my thoughts on this book! 😀

  • Dear Kate,
So I have a few more random questions. Feel free to be annoyed with me at your leisure. 😉
Do you get amused by all the wild theorizing about the impostor when you already know who he is and his motivations?
Will we have any new novels/novellas about Dawn of the Clans?
Were Breezepelt’s dead littermates male or female, and what were their names? I imagine something like Featherkit and Leafkit, but I don’t suppose Nightcloud would have stood for that.
What did Juniperkit and Dandelionkit die of? Also, why did Alderheart and Sparkpelt have to have had dead littermates in the first place? They don’t seem to have much of an impact on the series, as far as I can see.
    Thank you.

  • Hey Kate!

    I have a few questions:
    1. Are Sparrow Fur’s eyes green or amber? They’ve been listed and/or mentioned as both. Turtle Tail had green eyes.
    2. Is Rushtooth a she-cat or a tom? They have 4 mentions: 3 as a tom and 1 as a she-cat, but they were introduced as a she-cat.
    3. Will Cherrytail and Cloudmist be back? Hawkwing, Violetshine, and a few other brought them back to SkyClan in Darkest Night, but they’ve never been mentioned or listed in the allegiances since.
    4. Short fur or long fur: Rootspring, Tree, Bristlefrost, Shadowsight, Willowshine, Dovewing, Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Feathertail, Willow Tail, Clear Sky/Skystar, Gray Wing, Thunder/ Thunderstar, Star Flower, Sparrow Fur, Turtle Tail, Bright Stream
    5. What’s your favorite Clan?
    6. Which are more fun to write about: warriors or medicine cats?
    7. What color are Rosetail and Bumblestripe’s eyes?
    8. What’s Ice’s description?

  • I finished reading Veil of Shadows yesterday!!!!! I was so excited with the plot twist, when Squirrelflight said in the LAST sentence in the book: “I know who it is.” IT DAWNED ON ME TOO!!!! That’s such amazing writing, twisting the book so you cannot predict the impostor and then at the end it all makes sense. Everything wrong with how the impostor and Bramblestar interacted made sense. How he seemed listless but cruel, and kind of…well…unpredictable! I’m 99% certain it is Ashfur since he told Squirrelflight: “I came back for you.”
I am also kind of disappointed because I had forgiven Ashfur (I know a lot of people don’t) as well as Breezepelt, Clear Sky etc. I mean he and Hollyleaf forgave each other and he was in StarClan! Plus Squirrleflight played on his feelings. Overall, I think it’s a good plot. IM SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU ASHFUR!!!!!!!

  • I THINK THE IMPOSTER IS ASHFUR I THINK THE IMPOSTER IS ASHFUR I THINK THE IMPOSTER IS ASHFUR *Beep!* Robot mode off. Did I mention I think the imposter is Ashfur? It totally has to be! I mean, Bristlefrost and Shadowsight saw the imposter’s blue eyes, and we all know that Ashfur has blue eyes. And, a tree fell into the ThunderClan camp, crushed the Warriors den, made the nursery look a little different, and remember the imposter called Dewnose Dewtail? Ashfur wasn’t alive when Dewnose was born, or an apprentice, or a Warrior, so he wouldn’t know what his name is. And, the imposter said, “‘I came back for u.'” to Squirrelflight. AND EVERYONE KNOWS ASHFUR HATES BRAMBLESTAR BECAUSE HE LIKED SQUIRRELFLIGHT BUT SQUIRRELFLIGHT CHOSE BRAMBLESTAR! It’s old. Now, for my cats who die list:
    Dappletuft
    Conefoot(Silly name 😛 )
    Stemleaf
    Berrynose
    Rosepetal 🙁
    Frondwhisker
    Strikestone
I think there might be someone else, but I forgot. That’s it! Now for a point of view from a RiverClan kit.(That kit is me)
I ate, slept, and watched the Warriors get ready for the big battle.
END OF THIS SUPER LONG COMMENT. *Beep!* Robot mode off.

  • Hey Kate, I was wondering something about Berrynose.

In final chapter of Silent Thaw – A distant yowl lured the other Medicine cats away from Shadowsight:

“It sounded like the yowl came from over there”, Tree began to head along a rise. […] Puddleshine hurried after him him, “I can smell blood.”

Then moments later, Shadowsight was attacked by the Imposter. This distant yowl heavily implies an accomplice in this attampted murder.

Then in the Chapter 2 of Veil of Shadows, hours after Shadowsight’s attack, Berrynose and the Imposter return to camp smelling of catmint and blood: “Tasting the air, she picked up another, fainter tang. Could that be blood? […] As the two cats drew closer, she recognized the imposter Bramblestar and the Clan deputy Berrynose. Her first flash of relief was replaced by unease as she wondered why they were returning to camp so late and smelling so strongly of catmint.”

Since the Imposter is confirmed to be Shadowsight’s attacker; does this mean Berrynose is confirmed as the accomplice or not?

    • I can answer that, yes, Berrynose was the accomplice. However, he only thought they were going to scare Shadowsight, not try to kill him.

  • What’s the inciting incident in this book? I’m doing a school project on it and I can’t decide on just one place.

  • Hey Kate! I just have a few questions that I hope you can answer for me 😛

    1. Do you know who the imposter is?
    2. Was there any particular reason why Flipclaw was chosen to be a temporary med cat? Or was is just because the imposter thought he had omens and prophecies from StarClan?
    3. Out of all the books you write in this series, which book is most exciting for you to write and why?

    Thanks!

    • 1. Yes
      2. I’m not entirely sure why he chose Flipclaw. On a whim probably nd for no good reason other than he had to appoint someone and didn’t particularly care who it was.
      3. I liked writing Bluestar’s Prophecy because it was about characters I love and we were up against a really tight deadline which we hit with only a whisker to spare.

  • I too believe it’s Ashfur, he has blue eyes and did love Squirrelflight. But maybe this is a two cat job, this kind of thing seems a lot like something Sol would do. The evil presence Shadowsight felt at the moonpool suggests that there could be two cats working together. Maybe somehow Sol died and traveled back to the lake where he was able to work with Ashfur to do the plan. If it is not Sol, then it could be Darktail working together with Ashfur. The importer’s quote that said he came back for Squirrelflight near the end of Veil of Shadows clearly suggests that it is Ashfur. I don’t know how StarClan could be that stupid into letting Ashfur in, but I guess Ashfur may have not been all evil then. I would be shocked if the Bramblefake wasn’t Ashfur because I have no idea how one of those other cats could fall for Squirrelflight like that. Maybe the blue eyes are fake, idk. But I’m pretty sure it’s Ashfur.

I like the idea of it being a different leader than Squirrelflight in the end. I have a feeling that Bristlesfrost may be the next leader if Erin Hunter decides to do more book series. I think it would’ve been a great twist if the impostor had died while Bristlefrost was deputy, and she was forced to become the next leader. Lionblaze may be a good leader, but I’m pretty sure at the end of this series Bramblestar will come back and Squirrelflight will be the deputy once again. I don’t think Squirrelflight should be demoted, she seems like a pretty cool cat, but it would be a really good twist to the story if Lionblaze or Bristlefrost was made deputy instead and made leader.

  • Hey Kate! Can you confirm the following cats featured on the TBC covers?
    Lost Stars – Shadowsight
    The Silent Thaw – Rootspring
    Veil of Shadows – Bristlefrost
    Darkness Within – Squirrelflight
The Place of No Stars – Ashfur

    • So, I’m pretty sure that this is the cover art –
      Lost Stars – Bristlefrost
The Silent Thaw – Rootspring (He was Root paw back then)
      Veil of Shadows – Shadowsight
      Darkness Within – Squirrelflight
The Place Of No Stars – Ashfur
The only 2 I’m not entirely sure about are Lost Stars and Veil of Shadows. However, I am pretty sure that this is the correct cover art lineup.
