Cappuccinokitty shares their thoughts on some debates within the fandom.
Yoohoo!
Today I’m hopefully going to change your mind about some characters in the series that are generally very popular.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and remember that these are only fictional cats. So try to have an open mind when you read this.
*Ahem.*
1. Hollyleaf, is an awful cat.
Sorry Hollyleaf fans, hear me out.
Up until the Ashfur drama, she was plain, had no personality, and was unbearably boring. The only trait she had was her determination to stick to the code. Which became annoying and inconsistent after a while.
Then Ashfur threatened to tell the clans their secret. And she killed him. Great way to stick to the code Hollyleaf. But after that, she goes and tells the clans anyways, running away to the tunnels and leaving her brothers to face humiliation by themselves. Another thing she does is threaten to kill her mother, Leafpool, with deathberries. Leafpool has been through so much, and Hollyleaf shows no empathy, no consideration, for a cat that has just lost her mate, her place as a medicine cat, her respect, her kits. And no, she did not “self exile” herself. She hid in the tunnels and only resurfaced after everything had all blown over. And the worst thing was, she wasn’t punished for killing Ashfur. No! Brambleclaw lies in her defence and then life continues as usual. Technically, Hollyleaf has gotten away with murder.
2. Dovewing is also an awful cat, and her sister is better
Did you think I was done? No! Well, next we have a not-so-controversial opinion. I hate dovewing with a passion.
Dovewing is gaining attention for seemingly no reason, even the leader is treating her like a senior warrior. Blossomfall bullies ivypaw about how her sister will always be better than her, and Ivypool is understandably jealous, as a child who feels neglected, when Hawkfrost tells her she’s great, Ivypool is super happy. Finally someone appreciates her!
Everyone gives Ivy a hard time for getting jealous, but dovewing freaked out when she saw Tigerheart make eye contact with Ivypool. Talk about jealousy. They argue, dovewing won’t listen to Ivypool, who is trying to give her valid advice. Dovewing shouts at her. Ivypool overcomes her jealousy to spy for her clan, risking her life each night in the dark forest.
Some people say she was a bad spy, which is partially true. She doesn’t tell Jayfeather and Lionblaze much at first. But that’s because the Dark forest cats could easily kill her in her sleep, strangely they possess a power to come to the real world.
Ivypool is a really awesome queen who deserves more respect.
3. Squirrelflight and Leafpool are great.
These girls need a break. Leafpool has lost everything she ever cared about, and Squirrelflight is in a toxic relationship with a cat that doesn’t make her happy, respects her decisions or treats her well. Leafpool was almost killed by her own daughter. They’ve been through so much, and they’re both well developed characters.
If you managed to read through all that…
Well done.
I agree 1000000.99% on all of them. I don’t hate DoveWing but I don’t like her either. I ADORE IvyPool. I hate HollyLeaf like there’s no tomorrow. LeafPool is my wife.
This hasn’t changed my mind at all lol 😛 Honestly I never LOVED Hollyleaf in Power of Three but she grew on me in Omen of the Stars. Yes, she was mentally unstable. Yes she went too far. But in the end she realized her mistakes and forgave Leafpool. She heckin saved Ivypool’s life!! We always focus on the past and what everyone does wrong. No one ever thinks about the good that one does. I’m sorry I’m a Hufflepuff so I tend to have sympathy for many cats including Breezepelt, Nightcloud, Blackstar, Clear Sky (yes, Clear Sky), and the list goes on haha. So don’t hate me for liking Hollyleaf because I honestly love a lot of disliked cats 😛 (and dislike a few “loved” cats….idk I’m weird)
Anyway enough of my rant because my phone is about to die so byeeee 😂😂
I agree with all of those 😛 although I wouldn’t necessarily call Hollyleaf awful, I just find her annoying.
Hmm. If I may-
1. I think the reason many people like Hollyleaf is because she killed Ashfur. She was bland as Hollypaw- most agree on that. Killing Ashfur gave her a depth that we hadn’t seen before. A strict code-follower killing a cat to hide code-breaking? What went wrong with Hollyleaf to inspire this change? Everything after that- the hiding, the re-appearing, the threatening, is a very human reaction to a very human situation. Hollyleaf acted how any human would in this situation, which is 1. More to say than for most characters, and 2. An interesting contrast- not too far of a leap from her previous personality, but still a contrasting one- from her previous personailty.
2. Agree.
3. I don’t mind Squirrelflight, but Leafpool is a bit Mary-Sueish, in my opinion. Her reaction to the whole Ashfur debacle is (in contrast to Hollyleaf’s) very inhuman. She seems to be robotic in her feelings- yes, she was sad, but that was it. You are right in saying that she had lost everything- but her only reaction was sadness. There was no irrational anger or bitterness at her father, no snapping at her kits about how rude and unfair they were being to her- just sadness.
I agree with some of you’re points, there!
Nice article! I agree with them all except for Hollyleaf.
I totally agree with you on Hollyleaf! I was never a Hollyleaf fan, but you voiced my exact thoughts.
I also love Squirrelflight and Leafpool, they totally deserve more respect.
I do not hate dovewing, but I don’t love her either. I am neutral towards Ivypool.
I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT IVYPOOL sh dgsjfjdgjsshajk
She’s one of the cats most like me 😛
However, one good thing Hollyleaf did was die for one of my favorite characters (Ivypool), so I respect her for that part.
And yeessssssss I love those sistas 😀
Hollyleaf is my third favourite character, because I just find her relatable. (Before the Ashfur drama of course)
Great article and I agree with you on some of your points
1. I can somewhat agree, but I’m purely neutral on Hollyleaf for the sake of not wanting to start a war. I definitely did find her boring up until the moment she went crazy, since her POV was honestly grating at times.
2. How is this supposed to be a controversial opinion? Over 50% of the fandom practically worships the ground Ivypool walks on, the only place with people not loving her as much being WCRP forums. This seems to be a common misconception made, because I ran a poll awhile back and Ivypool was one of the most loved cats on that poll. And it was across the entire fandom that I did the poll too, so this claim of this opinion being controversial just…irks me, considering that Ivypool is one of the most popular characters in the entire fandom…? So I don’t get how this is supposed to be controversial, considering the fact that many share your views in the fandom as a whole…?
And besides, Ivypool is also an awful cat. I’d go into further detail, but I’d feel like a broken record at this point and I know people are just going to scream at me for not loving “the best character of all time” because it happens way too much, everywhere I go (I bet people will come screaming at me for this comment). Other than her being an awful cat too, Ivypool is dreadfully bland in terms of personality, because her entire personality revolves around Dovewing, unless you count the spy cliche as a part of it too.
3. Again, not so sure how exactly this is controversial when most people consider them to be good/great characters… but regardless, I have to disagree somewhat due to my own personal distaste for their character. Leafpool I could never really stand after Dawn, and she certainly didn’t get better until AVoS. Squirrelflight was okay for the first part of TNP, and honestly went south for me after Dawn as well.
So no, you didn’t really change my opinion and I don’t get why the title is implying multiple controversial opinions when really just the first one and maybe the third are controversial opinions. Ivypool is insanely popular in the fandom as a whole, and the only place where you could say she isn’t as nearly popular is on maybe WCRP. But even then, the multitude of people love her there as well…they just constantly say that she’s not very popular, which I don’t get when it’s obvious that Ivypool is generally beloved in the fandom.
I respect ur opinion but from what I’ve seen about dove and Ivy I feel like it’s a 50-50 split but then again I haven’t read much of the pile soooo
An interesting thing I noticed is that there are more articles about hating dove but more comments defending her, interestingly.
U lost ur bet on ppl screaming at u did not liking Ivy 😛 she’s Alr in my opinion but I think both dove and Ivy were jerks to each other
I agree! Ivypool has always been a horrible cat to me but I’m afraid to say my opinion since almost everybody I’ve seen loves her.
niiice i agree on you apart from holly since i like mentally unstable cats because they make things happen 😛
Cappuchinokitty…. you LITERALLY put all my hate for those cats in words! YOU’RE THE BEST! I don’t like Leafpool, though. Even though she’s nice, she was WAY too quiet. She’s kind of annoying, too. I don’t like much cats that are in forbidden relationships. But still, CrowxNight FOREVERRRRRRRRRR!
Wait, there’s a person who supports Crow x Night? Didn’t everyone agree that they never loved each other?
I agree with all of these 😀
I agree with all of them except Hollyleaf. I ♥ her
