Comparing and Contrasting Different Depictions of Warrior Cats- Part 2 by Briarpaw

Briarpaw takes a look at the physical descriptions of two more cats from the series.

Hey! Ria here with another article! You guys seemed to really like part 1, so I decided to make a part 2! (I was secretly planning on it anyway)

Read part one if you don’t know what I’m doing, the details should be in there. Here’s the link:

Comparing and Contrasting Different Depictions of Warrior Cats by Briarpaw

Alright. This time, I’m going to add real life cats in, as well! 😀

Our first cat is… Barley!

I noticed Barley looks significantly different across the different media, so here we are.

Official art by Wayne McLoughlin

This is Barley with Ravenpaw. He is the one on the top. He is mostly black with some white on his nose. He probably has more white somewhere, like on his paws and belly, which isn’t shown here, but I think in this image he’s probably a tuxedo cat.

Here’s Barley in the manga!

Official art from Ravenpaw’s Path (manga)

(Huh, he has blue eyes. I always thought he had yellow eyes…)

Just like with Leafstar and Graystripe, I imagine a real-life Barley just like the manga version of him. (Sometimes I imagine Lionblaze as a golden Graystripe… don’t ask, my mind is weird) He is fluffy and medium-furred, unlike in The Ultimate Guide, where he has short fur, and two giant stripes on his back, one between his eyes, and black ears. I really like this design of Barley, personally. Even though it is unrealistic, it is still creative.

Here’s an image of him I found online!

He’s more on the grayish side here, with a darker gray back. He also seems small, while I’m pretty sure manga Barley is big. Then again, The Ultimate Guide Barley is small. He’s got a black tail (it seems ore very dark gray than black, but I’ll just call it black), black splotches over his eyes, black paws, and just like the manga, black ears. Here he is still fluffy, though to me his fur seems longer than in the manga.

Finally, here’s a real-life black cat that’s the closest I can find to Barley:

This cat looks more like the The Ultimate Guide version of Barley:

Alright, anyway, our next cat is…

Squirrel Girl!

Just kidding. But as you probably guessed, it’s Squirrelflight!

Here’s Squirrelflight on the cover of her super edition, since you can’t really see her in The Ultimate Guide:

Official art by Owen Richardson

She’s got lime-green eyes, a very fluffy tail, and reddish ginger fur. Actually, her body is pretty fluffy too- only her head isn’t that fluffy. She has white whiskers. I don’t think there’s much more to say.

Here’s her manga form!

Official art from Bramblestar’s Storm’s manga

We don’t have it in color, so we can’t say much about that. She looks like your typical Squirrelflight, except that her tail is not fluffy and her fur is short-furred. There isn’t much to say beyond that.

Here’s an image I found online!

She’s very fluffy with a paler belly and chest. She is orange with a redder tail and paws except for her white one, which has a heart next to it. She has a nick in her ear. She’s got chest fur. Her splotches on her face, almost like freckles, are the same color as her belly. Her tail is very, very, floofy.

Finally, a real-life (the closest I could come to her description) Squirrelflight!

I think that looks pretty real, anyway.

Now, to end the article, here’s a flying squirrel!

(I meant to show a photo of a leaping red squirrel, but I forgot flying squirrels are a thing, so there’s one)

I might make a part 3, depending on how you guys like it. Thanks so much for reading!
