Amending the Warrior Code by Cinderpaw

Cinderpaw wonders how the Warrior Code can be changed. How would you change the rules?

(Waring, small amounts of Power of Three spoilers, although there are not many, they give away a lot. Do not read if you have not finished Long Shadows.)

Hello. Cinderpaw here! Today I am discussing a long considered topic: amending the warrior code. I will be looking at challenging two warrior codes and a medicine code.

The first code. For their first code, I chose code sixteen, a warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet. I believe that this should be changed for one very simple reason. What kind of warrior would a cat be if they did not believe in the clans? If they did not believe in the warrior code, they would be useless, maybe even a burden to their clan. It is better to leave the clan altogether, then burden them. If a cat feels that they do not belong in a clan, the clan should not feel like a cage. If a cat wishes to leave, they should. My revised version is as follows.

𝕬 𝖜𝖆𝖗𝖗𝖎𝖔𝖗 𝖒𝖚𝖘𝖙 𝖈𝖔𝖒𝖒𝖎𝖙 𝖙𝖔 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖎𝖗 𝖈𝖑𝖆𝖓 𝖋𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖞, 𝖔𝖗 𝖓𝖔𝖙 𝖆𝖙 𝖆𝖑𝖑. 𝕴𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖜𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖉 𝖑𝖎𝖐𝖊 𝖙𝖔 𝖑𝖊𝖆𝖛𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖑𝖆𝖓, 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖒𝖆𝖞, 𝖇𝖚𝖙 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖓𝖔𝖙 𝖑𝖎𝖛𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 𝖆 𝖕𝖆𝖜 𝖎𝖓 𝖊𝖆𝖈𝖍 𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖑𝖉. 𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖒𝖚𝖘𝖙 𝖈𝖔𝖒𝖒𝖎𝖙 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖒𝖘𝖊𝖑𝖛𝖊𝖘 𝖋𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖞 𝖙𝖔 𝖔𝖓𝖊 𝖕𝖑𝖆𝖈𝖊. 𝕴𝖋 𝖆 𝖑𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖊𝖗 𝖋𝖊𝖊𝖑𝖘 𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖘 𝖜𝖆𝖞, 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖒𝖚𝖘𝖙 𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖚𝖑𝖙 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 𝕾𝖙𝖆𝖗𝕮𝖑𝖆𝖓 𝖊𝖝𝖙𝖊𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖛𝖊𝖑𝖞 𝖇𝖊𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖊 𝖙𝖆𝖐𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖆𝖓𝖞 𝖉𝖊𝖈𝖎𝖘𝖎𝖛𝖊 𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖕𝖘.

The second code. Code thirteen. The word of clan leader is the warrior code. This one, I believe, is the one I would like to challenge the most genuinely. If a leader makes a bad decision, the whole clan is punished by it. This is shown in Bluestar’s reign, Onestar’s reign, or really any leadership. I believe that, if more than half of the clan challenges this decision, the clan will vote. For a decision to be successfully vetoed, ¾ of the clan, including the deputy or medicine cat will have to vote to stop it. This will happen after arguments from both sides are made, so that cats see the reasoning behind both decisions. Only warriors, queens, elders, and medicine cats may vote. The amendment is as follows.

𝕴𝖋 𝖆 𝖈𝖑𝖆𝖓 𝖑𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖊𝖗 𝖒𝖆𝖐𝖊𝖘 𝖆 𝖉𝖊𝖈𝖎𝖘𝖎𝖔𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖎𝖘 𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖑𝖑𝖊𝖓𝖌𝖊𝖉, 𝖎𝖙 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖇𝖊 𝖛𝖊𝖙𝖔𝖊𝖉, 𝖇𝖚𝖙 𝖔𝖓𝖑𝖞 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖘𝖚𝖕𝖕𝖔𝖗𝖙 𝖔𝖋 ¾ 𝖔𝖋 𝖆𝖑𝖑 𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖕𝖆𝖓𝖙𝖘, 𝖎𝖓𝖈𝖑𝖚𝖉𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖊𝖎𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗 𝖆 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙 𝖔𝖗 𝖉𝖊𝖕𝖚𝖙𝖞. 𝕬𝖗𝖌𝖚𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖘 𝖋𝖗𝖔𝖒 𝖇𝖔𝖙𝖍 𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊𝖘 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖑 𝖇𝖊 𝖒𝖆𝖉𝖊, 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖕𝖆𝖓𝖙𝖘 𝖙𝖔 𝖘𝖊𝖊 𝖇𝖔𝖙𝖍 𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖆𝖗𝖌𝖚𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙. 𝕺𝖓𝖑𝖞 𝖜𝖆𝖗𝖗𝖎𝖔𝖗𝖘, 𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓𝖘, 𝖊𝖑𝖉𝖊𝖗𝖘, 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖘 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖛𝖔𝖙𝖊.

Now I will be looking at a medicine cat code. Or rather, two medicine cat codes. Obviously, I am talking about a medicine cat’s inability to take a mate or have kits. There are two main arguments for this, and I will try to break them down. The first argument is that a medicine cat will favor their kit or mate over someone else, and therefore fuss over them more. For example, If Lionblaze and Bumblestripe both had greencough, Leafpool would definitely give Lionblaze more attention because he was her kit. But what if it was Squirrelflight instead of Lionblaze? Leafpool would still give more attention to Squirrelflight then Bumblestripe because Squirrelflight was her sister, and it would be mouse-brained to make a rule that only single litter kits can be medicine cats because those are few and far between. Family bias will happen, there is no avoiding that. Second is the idea that kits will distract a medicine cat from their duty. This is a valid argument, and I believe that a medicine cat may only have kits one a certain checklist is met.

First, they must have another fully trained medicine cat, so that the clan still has a medicine cat while they are taking care of their kits.
Second, they must talk to the other medicine cat first, to make sure that they are ok with the idea of being the only medicine cat for a while
Third, they may not have kits during a crisis, like right after a major attack, an outbreak of sickness, or any other serious problem, because they will be needed, and at that time, kits will distract a medicine cat from their duties
Finally, they must have a willing foster mother in case a sudden emergency does happen, and they are needed.

I think we should take out the code about not taking a mate entirely, and change the second code. The amendment is as follows.

𝕬 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙, 𝖚𝖓𝖉𝖊𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖉𝖎𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖙𝖆𝖐𝖊 𝖆 𝖒𝖆𝖙𝖊, 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖔𝖓𝖑𝖞 𝖍𝖆𝖛𝖊 k𝖎𝖙𝖘 𝖎𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖎𝖘 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖓 𝖔𝖓𝖊 𝖋𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖞 𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖊𝖉 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙, 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙 𝖎𝖘 𝖔𝖐 𝖙𝖔 𝖇𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖘𝖎𝖓𝖌𝖑𝖊 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖆 𝖜𝖍𝖎𝖑𝖊. 𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖆𝖑𝖘𝖔 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖓𝖔𝖙 𝖍𝖆𝖛𝖊 𝖐𝖎𝖙𝖘 𝖉𝖚𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖆𝖓𝖞 𝖘𝖔𝖗𝖙 𝖔𝖋 𝖊𝖒𝖊𝖗𝖌𝖊𝖓𝖈𝖞 𝖎𝖓𝖛𝖔𝖑𝖛𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖓𝖊𝖊𝖉 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖆 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙’𝖘 𝖘𝖐𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖘. 𝕴𝖋 𝖆𝖓 𝖊𝖒𝖊𝖗𝖌𝖊𝖓𝖈𝖞 𝖚𝖓𝖊𝖝𝖕𝖊𝖈𝖙𝖊𝖉𝖑𝖞 𝖍𝖆𝖕𝖕𝖊𝖓𝖘, 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖒𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖙 𝖒𝖚𝖘𝖙 𝖍𝖆𝖛𝖊 𝖆 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖋𝖔𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖗 𝖒𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗 𝖘𝖔 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞 𝖒𝖆𝖞 𝖈𝖆𝖗𝖊 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖎𝖗 𝖈𝖑𝖆𝖓𝖒𝖆𝖙𝖊𝖘.

If you have any codes you would like to amend, or any codes that you would like to create, post them in the comments!
