Hi! Emberfern here, I’m new to BlogClan so I’ll try to be as modest as possible here, since I’m only a young warrior.
Mapleshade killed cats, yes, but she was driven by grief and fear, which she let get ahold of her. A true warrior is doesn’t let things like sadness cloud their judgement, but to be fair, her three small kits had drowned and Appledusk left her for Reedshine. Her heart was empty and full of anger at Appledusk for lying to her, saying that he loved her and only her when in reality he loved Reedshine more, and anger at Ravenwing, who denied her kits of a safe, secure future in ThunderClan—or a life at all, for that matter— and anger at Frecklewish for standing by and leaving Mapleshade and her three kits Petalkit, Patchkit and Larchkit to drown in the river.
Anyone could say, “oh, I saw RiverClan warriors on the other side of the bank. I thought they’d be okay.”
No. Clearly they were not okay. And the three kits— how could any true warrior stand by and watch a queen and her kits struggle?! Frecklewish broke the warrior code that day, the rule “no warrior must let a kit be in pain or danger, no matter the Clan.” (That’s not the exact wording, but it’s the gist of it.) Mapleshade merely wanted her kits to live a enriched, healthy life. That’s what all good queens want. All good cats in general want. But clearly, Ravenwing didn’t want that. Frecklewish didn’t want that and neither did Appledusk. (According to Mapleshade.)
So the question still remains unanswered: Did Mapleshade REALLY deserve to be sent to the Dark Forest and forgotten?
No. In my opinion, she only wanted to provide the best for her kits and she let grief wash over her one too many times. Any queen would be distraught at her kits dying, while a Clanmate that obviously could have helped merely stood by and didn’t help.
It’s possible that I’m wrong and if I’m missing something, it would be appreciated if somebody could point it out for me! Have a good day Clanmates!

Even tho I’m not a fan of mapleshade, I still do agree with you. Mapleshade didn’t actually deserve going to the dark forest.

Yes! Ashfur did the same thing. He planned to kill Holly, Jay, and Lion, AND expose them as half WindClan, (or something) while the other Clans were already mad at ThunderClan for breaking the mating rules. If Hollyleaf didn’t
forcefullystop him, he would have carried through with it. His only fault? Loving to much. Mapleshade did almost that exact thing. Sorry for the long comment, I’m just annoyed that there is no justice in this world.I agree… if Ashfur could go to StarClan, it seems unfair that Mapleshade didn’t.

Right… well, it’s kind of confusing that StarClan cats would let bad cats join their ranks. How do they decide whether a cat should join StarClan or get banished to the Dark Forest?
Yes. Nothing was fair for Mapleshade.
Imma say dis now Squrrielflights hope spoilers… they go to like a great lake then some important starclan cats review their lives and decide if they can stay in starclan or not. If they are lucky they can speak for themselves as in tell the important starclan cats why they did the wrong thing

Ashfur trapped a cat and her children in a fire without allowing them passage out. The only thing that prevented him from literally making them burn to death while their mother watched was the fact that he thought there was now something that could hurt Squirrelflight worse. He also 100% was an accomplice to an actual murder and conspired with a cat from the Dark Forest. If Firestar hadn’t been a leader, he wouldn’t have come back from that death. Cats have landed in the Dark Forest for far, far less.
I agree with Emberfern Mapleshade gets NO justice WHATSOEVER!!!!!

I agree. I was so angry when I was reading Mapleshade’s Vengeance, especially when Ravenwing, Frecklewish and Appledusk betrayed her. I personally hate Reedshine…for her annoying behaviour and about taking Appledusk away from Mapleshade. Frecklewish didn’t seem like a bad cat until she pleaded her dad, Oakstar to banish Mapleshade(No offence meant for those who like Reedshine or Frecklewish).

That is just my opinion if I offend anyone I am VERY sorry!
You cannot take a faithful cat away from their partner. Reedshine didn’t even know about Mapleshade until she came to RiverClan after her kits died. If anything she probably saw Mapleshade as the homewrecker in this situation. I don’t even like her but she didn’t “steal” anything. And being a pregnant queen does give her a right to take Appledusk as she was pregnant with…….. his kits. 😛
So after Mapleshade had her kits born she doesn’t count as a queen with feelings as well? Also, in the book it kind of tells us Reedshine is the homwrecker. Besides, Appledusk was cheating on her. He should have gotten the worst of it. Instead Mapleshade did, and it was so unfair, that, and her visions of the kits calling out for vengeance, drove her to kill everyone who together killed her kits and were unfair to her about those kits. Besides, Mapleshade had her kits before Reedshine was even Appledusk’s mate.

Reedshine litteraly told Mapleshade, a grieving queen who had just found out her kits drowned and her mate had cheated on her to leave and showed her that she was Applebutt’s new mate. Also. she. Was. Pregnant. She even snapped:
“Go away Mapleshade, you’ve caused enough trouble here tonight.” To Mapleshade. Telling her to leave, showing no sympathy. And people call her a good cat? Sorry but this is my opinion.
Also just because Reedshine supports Appledusk doesn’t mean Darkstar should listen to her. Half of the fault’s Appledusk’s and he gets away completely off, with a new mate as well.

I haven’t read it either, but I do know one thing for sure: Mapleshade and Ashfur belong in the dark forest. Did Starclan really forget how Firestar lost a life to Ashfur and Hawkfrost’s plan? Did Emberfern really forget how possessive Mapleshade was with Appledusk before her kits died? And I could come up with better evidence on Mapleshade’s cruel nature if I could only get that darned book of hers. One big sign was how pleased she was to end up in the Dark Forest at the end. I can’t get much evidence on Mapleshade, but only because I haven’t managed to get her book yet. [/spoiler]
I don’t think you can really make judgements about her until you’ve read the novella…She’s a lot different after she goes to the Dark Forest.
Oh boy, I got the question wrong :/
They do, first reason that Ashfur almost killed Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather, because he and Squirrleflight were not together.
Second reason that Ashfur should be in the dark forest:He torchored Squirrleflight on telling that Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather that there were not her kit’s, not for why she kept it a secret, but for her to get a punishment, or even get kicked out of the clan.
Third reason that Ashfur should go to the dark forest: he did all that, when he could have just forget about it and move on but he wanted to stay and litterly almost killed Squirrleflght and three innocent cats for that, and I am really cumfosed that, why couldn’t he just talk to her and explain he feels hert and they can figure out something(they should really get therapist to help in the clan)
Mapleshade liked it when she realized she got in the Dark Forest. Period.
She felt relish or something, since she could get revenge now for the ones who ruined her life.
Maybe Frecklewish did break the warrior code, or she believed that Mapleshade and the kits were safe.
Maybe Ravenwing was just some selfish brat who didn’t care about kits, or maybe he just thought he was doing his duty.
Maybe Appledusk realized he was doing wrong stuff and went back, although I’m not saying he’s GOOD.
And why do you hate Reedshine? She’s got nothing to do with the Maple x Apple fiasco. She didn’t know Appledusk was cheating, and she didn’t know Mapleshade’s story before she intruded into RiverClan territory.
Anyway, nothing justifies killing… for me. I’m doing my best to think of an excuse for Ashfur, but I can’t. No one knows what Ashfur would’ve done, and Ashfur isn’t the subject of this story… or article… whatever.

Mapleshade killed three cats. They were innocent. In Mapleshade’s view, they were completely vile and evil cats (Oh hey, if you scramble ‘vile’ you get ‘evil’!).
The police and jury won’t excuse you and say ‘Ohhhh so tragic! Here, just go free. Maybe you can finish your revenge. The three murdered people were REALLY bad and TOTALLY justified!’ Okay, I was sarcastic. But honestly.
Ashfur, perhaps, was a misjudged case. Yellowfang defended him, probably because she thought she was the one who caused all this, since she encouraged Squirrelflight to take Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze.
But we have to acknowledge that Mapleshade was happy she got in the Dark Forest. She would be free to take revenge. She tried to kill Reedshine, who was expecting kits, because she thought ‘Appledusk was hers’.
So, in conclusion, she deserved the Dark Forest. At least, it’s too late to change your alliances now. She’s done much harm; harm to the descendants of Apple x Reed, who aren’t blame to her story.
I feel bad for her. I feel like she deserved something, but not her children dying. I blame more cats than just her. She does really deserve the Dark Forest. She went insane and killed multiple people! These cats can’t give her mental help. She’s not the cat she used to be. She needs help that she can’t get. She’s only going to keep murdering until she gets that help, but there’s no help to get. She truly enjoyed that she was sent to the Dark Forest. When someone goes crazy kills multiple of their kind, you can’t help them mentally. When they’re so far gone that they enjoy the sight the opposite of their Starclan as their after-life… Well, then, they do deserve where they end after death.
uh, no, she didn’t kill any “People”. She killed CATS, not HUMANS. Cats and humans are totally different things. Actually, she only planned on killing three, if you have read the book, you would know that she wanted to avenge her 3 kits, meaning she only wanted to kill the three cats most responsible. She could have killed that apprentice who I forgot it’s name.
murder is still murder especially if you consider that the cats in warriors have the emotional capacity of humans 😛

I personally think that the DF kind of warps the feelings of the cats who go into it, and keeps them stuck in exactly the state they were in when they died.

Finally! Someone who agrees on my opinions on Mapleshade!
Even if the actions of her right after her kits’ deaths could be excused, that doesn’t excuse the fact that she did more damage after being killed.
I agree with this article. And imagine how many villains would not be villains if starclan hadn’t sent Mapleshade to the dark forest

Just like she said to Sandstorm, “You had everything I wanted!” Meaning, that Sandstorm had kits, and Firestar, who loved her. Mapleshade lost all those things. (Darn it! Now I want to write an article about her!)
