Did Leafpool Do The Right Thing When She Left With Crowfeather? By Nightwish

Nightwish takes a look at Leafpool’s decision.

I will be writing about whether Leafpool did the right thing when she left ThunderClan to be with Crowfeather.

Let’s look at the pros, cons, thoughts, and what happened before jumping to conclusions.

What would you have done? Obviously, the Clans’ strictness to meeting with cats of different Clans stopped Crowfeather and Leafpool from having a good time in the Clans. They probably couldn’t have talked at the border for a good five minutes before other warriors called them back. Oh, StarClan…. why must love be so hard for the lovesick cats!!! *Cough* Anyway, when Crowfeather asks Leafpool to leave with him, her first thought would probably have been: This is my chance! This is my one and only chance to be with the cat I love! That’s understandable! Certainly she couldn’t have missed her chance, and honestly it is hard to do the loyal thing when you are pulled by love. (And I have to admit, I would’ve done the exact same thing)

But let’s take a look at what happened. Leafpool finds herself in a terrible situation after they return to protect ThunderClan from badgers. Leafpool is expecting kits, and they are Crowfeather’s kits. She couldn’t have them, of course, because she was a medicine cat, plus Crowfeather was from a different Clan. But it was too late to stop the kits from coming. So, Leafpool asks her sister Squirrelflight to lie and take the kits as her own.

That’s how Jaykit, Lionkit, and Hollykit are born. (Later Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf)

PROS AND CONS OF THE THREE
PROS
Pro 1: They did lots for their Clan, and two of the three cats became part of The Power of Three. The Power of Three plays a big part in defeating the Dark Forest. Of course, StarClan could’ve selected other cats, but I believe that Jayfeather and Lionblaze played very big parts, and some random cat couldn’t have done what they have done.
Pro 2: Jayfeather was a very talented medicine cat natural! Who knows what would’ve happened without Jayfeather as a medicine cat; a Clan with only one medicine cat would not have been good. (Alderheart comes way after Jayfeather, and there were lots of battles and dangers in between.)
Pro 3: Hollyleaf is able to train the ThunderClan cats for the battle against WindClan and Sol. Without her training, ThunderClan would have been crow-food. Hollyleaf also sacrifices herself for Ivypool, saving Ivypool’s life. Without Hollyleaf, Ivypool might have been dead.

CONS
Con 1: After finding out that the three were not Squirrelflight’s kits, lots of trouble is stirred. First, Bramblestar (Brambleclaw at the time) becomes furious and hurt that Squirrelflight lied to him, along with Firestar, Sandstorm, and other Clan cats. Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather themselves are furious, finding it hard to forgive Squirrelflight. This lie also led to the death of Ashfur.
Con 2: The lie about the three being Squirrelflight’s kits made Ashfur threaten them and Squirrelflight even more. This almost leads to Squirrelflight, Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze’s death in the fire. Ashfur and Squirrelflight’s relationship does not improve after Ashfur’s threat to them.

This can lead to two different conclusions: 1) Leafpool did the wrong thing when she left with Crowfeather because after leaving, she has his kits which hurt lots of cats and threatened the lives of others. 2) Leafpool did the right thing when she left with Crowfeather because it was her only chance to be with the cat she loved, and her kits benefited the Clans.

It is up to you to come up with a good conclusion. But I believe that Leafpool made the right choice. It wasn’t really a “choice” at the time, she just wanted to be with the cat she loved. Besides, she had no idea she was going to have his kits at the time. The kits and troubles that happened weren’t really her fault. Besides, she came back and served ThunderClan as a medicine cat until her last breath. The pull of love can sometimes be greater than what is loyal, and Leafpool was just following her dreams and what she really wanted. I believe Leafpool is a great cat and that she didn’t deserve all the hate she received.

It really is up to you, though to decide :). I think that I have given enough evidence for you to make your decision. And I trust you to make the purrfect decision (Oof, cringy pun, LOL)
