Hello fellow BlogClanners! I’m Turtle, and here to defend one of the most hated Warriors cats…
Jessy.
Jessy is really overHATED, not overRATTED like some people think.

That’s why I’m writing this article: to show people why they should NOT hate Jessy!
Because Jessy is actually a really nice cat.
So let’s start the defending! I’ll take something Jessy haters say about her, and then DEFEND!

1. “Jessy got in Squirrelflight and Bramblestar’s way! She got in the way of them becoming mates again!”

No, she didn’t. Actually, Jessy was part of the reason Bramblestar and Squirrelflight got back together!

Think about it: If Jessy hadn’t helped Bramblestar realize he still loved Squirrelflight, and hadn’t encouraged him to make up with Squirrelflight, Bramblestar and Squirrelflight may not be mates!
SquirrelXBramble is a great ship, and it would be horrible if they weren’t a couple.
Well, they are a couple. And Jessy helped that to happen.
Just look at this quote of Jessy’s.

“I know. But you already love Squirrelflight. As you should. She is the mother of your kits. I know they weren’t born to you. But you are their father, just as Squirrelflight is their mother. That is not a bond that’s easily broken. Not even washed away in a storm!”

See? Jessy saved Bramblestar and Squirrelflight’s relationship!

That’s awesome!

2. “Jessy was a useless character!”

Actually, Jessy was FAR from useless. Like I stated above, she saved Bramblestar and Squirrelflight’s relationship.
But did you know she also played a very important role in A Vision of Shadows?
I know what you’re thinking- “Jessy wasn’t even IN A Vision of Shadows!”

You’re right. But still, she is the reason SkyClan came to the lake.

Let me explain: As I already established earlier in this article, Jessy saved Bramblestar and Squirrelflight’s loveboat.
If she didn’t exist, they might not be mates. They may have never forgiven each other.
If Bramblestar and Squirrelflight were not mates, then they wouldn’t have had their kits, Alderheart and Sparkpelt.

If they didn’t have Alderheart and Sparkpelt, then Alderheart would have never gone on his quest to find SkyClan.
Which means that he and Needletail (Needlepaw back then) would have never found Twigkit and Violetkit.

If they never found Twigkit and Violetkit, then Twigkit would have never found SkyClan.
Well, she was TwigPAW when she did that, but you know what I mean.

And if Violetkit was dead, Darktail might still be in power!
Remember, Violetkit (Violetpaw when it happened) played a very important part in taking down Darktail.

So yeah. The only reason all these things happened is because of Jessy, so she is ABSOLUTELY not useless!

3. “Jessy is a kitty pet!”

So? What does that have anything to do with anything?
Just because Jessy is a kitty pet (well, she might be a loner or a rouge now, but still) doesn’t mean she’s not a good cat!
There’s a lot of great Warriors characters who happen to be kitty pets. Just because they don’t live in a Clan doesn’t mean you need to hate them!

So yeah! That was yours truly, Turtle, defending Jessy!
I’m not expecting to change Jessy haters’ minds with this article, tbh.
If I did, I would be quite surprised.
But if you too, are a Jessy defender, then I hope this article inspired you to defend Jessy even more!

Because Jessy doesn’t deserve the hate she gets. Not one bit.

Well, that’s it for today, folks! See ya next time!
Bye.

  • Yaaayy, it’s finally out!! 😀 I’ve been waiting for this to get published ever since I found out you were writing it! 😉 Jessy has been needing and deserving a defense article for so long, thank you for giving her one!

I agree with every single thing on here!
    1. Yes, I don’t understand how people can think she wanted to interfere! She obviously wanted them to be together and even sacrificed her chance at Clan life for it! That was so sweet of her!
    2. I actually never thought of that! She’s definitely super important and helped a lot through her brave deed of leaving!
She also saved Bramblestar’s life by showing him where to cross the stream to escape the badger! If it wasn’t for her he might even be dead.
    3. Her being a kittypet is most definitely no reason to hate her! Kittypets can be awesome cats just as much as Clan cats!

Amazing job! This is such a beautiful article! <3 😀

  • Can I hire you to write my persuasive essay for my English class? No? Ok fine 😛 You did really well, this actually changed my opinion on Jessy! But not my opinion of Squirrel x Bramble- Either way, you did really well!

  • Wow. I’ve never liked Jessy, but this actually changed my mind, which I definitely didn’t expect! Your reasons and explanations were amazing, and while she still isn’t my favorite, I have a newfound respect for her. Great article!

  • Interesting article! But i disagree.
It’s Bramblestar’s own will that led him to realize he loved Squirrelflight.
The villains in the dark forest made Ivypool and a bunch of others realize how deadly it is in the Dark Forest, which made them to turn against them. Then are the villians good because they made them realize they have to turn against them? Well, they are great villains, but not good. It’s the same.
So she never played a part in bringing Skyclan back.

    • But the villains didn’t purposely convince Ivypool that the Dark Forest was bad. They didn’t WANT the trainees to know. Jessy WANTED Bramblestar to realize he loved Squirrelflight.
Jessy actually outright stated that she believes Bramblestar should be with Squirrelflight. She said, “But you already love Squirrelflight- as you should” and she even left ThunderClan not to distract him from his relationship with Squirrelflight.

      • Uh, I think Jessy also wanted to find new Twolegs. I don’t think she left for the sole reason of letting Bramblestar and Squirrelflight be together.

(I’m neutral on Jessy, I think she did some good stuff, like leaving to protect Squirrelflight and Bramblestar’s relationship, teaching the Clan new methods, and being a good Clanmate to Bramblestar in general, but I kind of…feel like she should’ve tried to learn Clan customs instead of sleeping in Bramblestar’s den without asking, acting like every cat was her equal, etc.)

      • The DF didn’t want them to know their evil, but purposely trained them too harsh and said to what they thought ‘the most loyal warriors in the DF’ that their going to destroy the clans? That’s how Ivypool knew. They downright didn’t hide it. Jessy didn’t want Bramblestar to realize he loved Squirrelflight. She tried to get Bramblestar over her side, moving her nest to his and touching his nose with hers even when she knew he had a mate. But when she knew he would forever love Squif, she just gave up . It looks like she left because her love didn’t work.

  • Great article! I personality don’t like Jessy (I pretty much think of her as annoying, but not hated), but that’s just my opinion! 🙂

  • Nice article!
    However, I disagree.

    1) I don’t complain about this, and I agree with your point. Not with the part about BrambleSquirrel being a great couple, but anyways.

    2) Bramblestar and Squirrelflight would have eventually realized they belonged with each other. If they didn’t, Jessy’s “You belong with each other!” wouldn’t work.
Therefore, Alderheart and Sparkpelt might’ve been born, and even if they hadn’t, StarClan would have chosen someone else to go and save SkyClan, so all is well! Someone else would’ve found Twigbranch and Violetshine, and even if they didn’t, maybe someone else would’ve stood up.

    3) Yeah, this is a totally ridiculous reason to hate her.

My issues with her is that she’s annoying, she’s perfect when she’s a kittypet, and that she’s so full of herself. She’s so perfect. She’s Mini-Squirrelflight. Squirrelpaw. She’s captured a Clan leader’s love, she jumps wonderfully, she catches on so soon, she’s so “cool”, she’s selfless, and I think of her as very close to being a Mary Sue.

  • i just read that article on hating jessy and now i can’t decide. both such good points. honestly, i don’t care about jessy. to me, she is an extremely minor charater

  • I agree with Jessy with not getting in the way of Squirrelflight and Bramblestar’s relationship.

Fans are free to dislike Jessy’s role in the narrative, but the hatred goes to the point, I feel like fans blame Jessy as a person. As if she did something mortally bad. Like she somehow knew their whole complicated past and purposefully trying to sabotage their recovery. When that’s simply not true – She’s innocent.

Jessy knew nothing about Squirrelflight and Bramblestar. From her perspective, Bramblestar was a kind stranger who sheltered her from the flood and was a signal at the time. Jessy is in the same boat as Millie – Imagine how frustrating it must’ve been to compared to Tom’s ex-mate, someone they’d never met before.

  • Hmmmmm…… I honestly don’t know whether to hate or like Jessy now……
You did an amazing job on this article, Turtlepaw!
