Ivypool vs. Dovewing by Silverpaw

Silverpaw weighs in on the debate of which sister is better.

Hi, everybody! Silver here!

*THIS ARTICLE INCLUDES SPOILERS FOR OMEN OF THE STARS!!! TURN BACK NOW IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THIS SERIES YET!!!*

So, let’s start with Ivypool! Ivypool used to be my favorite cat… until Omen of the Stars ended and she just became a normal cat. (Has anyone else noticed the way important and cool cats are slowly phased out until they are just sort of… there?)
Anyway, in Omen of the Stars, she’s shown to be brave, truthful (later on), and loyal. But she does have some downsides: she can be jealous and hurtful by extension.
She keeps going back to the Dark Forest to spy for the Clans, showing that she’s brave and loyal. She even tells Dovepaw, “‘Tell Jayfeather and Lionblaze that I’ll go back. I’ll pretend I’m still one of them, and I’ll find out everything I can about their plans,’” on page 272 of “Night Whispers”. (English class has trained me to show my evidence, so here I am looking through the whole of “Omen of the Stars”.)
Remember the incident with the fox invading the area over the hollow because of Ivypool’s idea to keep the rabbits away? (If you don’t, check page 67-68 of “The Forgotten Warrior”.) Well, that shows she’s truthful because she stands up and tells everyone that it was her fault that the foxes nearly ate Molepaw and Cherrypaw even though she might get in trouble.
Now, I’ve told you all how awesome she is, but it’s time to look at her downsides.
When she tries to tell Dovepaw about Hawkfrost and Lionblaze calls her away, she gets jealous of the “special treatment” that Dovepaw is getting and decides that she doesn’t want to tell her sister about him and ends up making her situation worse. Dovepaw later shows that she is hurt by Ivypaw’s decision to push her away.

Time to talk about Dovewing! Dovewing also used to be one of my favorites, but, like Ivypool, she loses her coolness in later books. I despise her! Sure, she’s kind, brave, and determined to do what’s right, but she’s just not relatable (yes, I know she’s a cat and I’m not, but you know what I mean)!
Dovewing is just too perfect! Think about it! She barely ever does anything wrong and those are almost always with good intentions! The only bad thing she does is fall in love with Tigerstar, but that gave us Shadowsight!
I feel like she completely broke Bumblestripe’s heart! I know some people think he’s just a creep, but the two of them would have been really good together if she hadn’t had to have Tigerstar of all the cats in the forest!

So yeah, I bet you know what I’m about to tell you. Ivypool is definitely the better character! Thank you for reading my article!

    i dont like dovewing

  • I agree! I don’t like Dovewing: she is whiny, babyish, always thinks that she’s the unluckiest cat in the world, and complains about everything just because she doesn’t like it. Twigbranch is just the same, but WORSE.I loooooooove Ivypool so much! She’s my no.1 favourite character! Maaaaaybe Violetshine could top her. They’re about the same.
    Amazing article, by the way!

      • Yes. Pus, it’s more like Ivypool was the whiny one, with her being all jealous of Dovewing’s powers and then going to the Dark Forest. Plus, she didn’t exactly spy much, and she caused the death of Russetfur as well as one of Firestar’s lives. Of course, after Oots she’s a pretty decent warrior, but doesn’t play a big role.

        • Well it isn’t really whining when you’re jealous, it’s well,, being jealous. And I thought Lionblaze killed Russetfur .-.
But she did spy in the Df, and sure she didn’t say much, but, she really did help in the great battle because she knew what was going to happen and she could use the evil cats’ moves against them.

      • Actually, Dovewing is pretty whiney- she complains that she doesn’t want to be in the three because she doesn’t want to be special, but then her powers get taken away and she acts like it’s the end of the world- though she is hard working, I’ll agree with that <3

        • She caused a battle because of her naivete when she believed Tigerstar. The battle caused the death of Russetfr. Thus, she killed Russetfur, although not directly.

    • OMIGOSHHHHH I love Ivypool and Violetshine and I agree with Dovewing and Twigbranch part

    • I half agree with u! I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate Dovewing for every reason u just said, but I actualy like Twigbranch better then Violetshine.

  • I didn’t like Ivypool in OotS. I felt like she was too petty, and people give her too much credit for “spying” when she hardly did that.
Bumblestripe was a creep. Dovewing doesn’t need to love him. If she doesn’t, then she doensn’t. She’s not perfect, too. She’s rather naive, and innocent, and her troubles with Ivypool prove that.

  • I like and defend both Ivypool and Dovewing. They’re both good characters. <3
    Helpless

  • Nice article! I love Ivypool more (she’s my favorite), but I still like Dovewing, so I’m going to have to defend her 😛

She’s not too perfect. She was oblivious to Ivypool’s feelings, she was kind of whiny (though think about it, how would you react if you lost, half of your hearing and eyesight?) and instead of trying to adapt, she just tried to get her powers back. However, she adapted to it later anyway.

She just didn’t love Bumblestripe. She didn’t have to love him back. Also, Bumblestripe kept pressuring her about kits when she didn’t want them.

  • YESSS I AGREE WITH YOU Ivypool is mah favorite character 😛

    Dovewing is mah least~

  • Good article, but I disagree.
Mostly with the “she had to choose Tigerheart, out of all the cats in the forest” because it was true love! Dovewing needed someone who could match her fire, not contain it. And that was Tigerheart. Also, I just like Dovewing better! 😛
    But otherwise good article!
