Before I like to begin, I like to credit Nightsky (friend) for helping me edit my grammar. You are the best! Thank you for Mountainpaw for giving me ideas, and Legulipaw (name is weird, right?) for support.

When I searched up “least favorite” in the blogclan search bar, I could see tons and tons of articles featuring the author’s least favorite character. While looking up these articles, I saw that many blogclanners hate a certain character without justified reasons. By this, I decided to make this article for people to fully understand how to choose your least favorite character. I decided to share a format called the CARVE style that I used to find my own least favorite character. The CARVE style stands for character, actions, relationships, view, and effect. I will review one by one with my explanation.

Now few things I like to clarify:
This is my method. You can use it if you literally purely hate the character, not minor characters you simply disgust at. It is your choice, though.
The moral part in effect is not necessary. If you want to, go ahead. Rest of them are mandatory in identifying your least favorite character.
CARVE Style is not only a style to write why you hate your least favorite character, but also a checklist to identify one if you don’t have your own.

Character:
It doesn’t mean literally the character, but the characteristics that the character has. This mainly focuses on the personality of the character. First, you have to identify his/her personality. It shouldn’t be biased, you have to be honest. Don’t view that character as “bad” just because you hate that character; some people might like what you don’t like. After you identify his/her personality, talk about why that personality doesn’t fit your personality. It is easy for people to judge characters based on their opinions, so be specific how it affected the character’s reputation. You also need a very good reason why that character’s personality is bad.
Actions:
Action is the important part of deciding who is your least favorite character. This is also true for choosing your favorite characters. You have to identify the actions of that character and why is not justified. The actions don’t really have to be evil, because you can hate a good character if you have a good reason why. There is a stereotype that people hate characters that are bad, which isn’t true because people love villains as much as the main characters in the story. A common example is Mapleshade. After you talk about why it is not justified, you have to engage it to the results of their actions. This is also a part of the Effect, but for here you just talk about it in a limited explanation.
Relationships:
Actions link with relationships, since the cause of the action depends on who you are doing to. If you have a negative relationship with someone, you will cause a harmful action against them. If you have a good relationship with someone, you will do a good thing for them. The “someone” can be anyone; family member, friend, clanmate, or main character of the story that the fandom loves. Tell the relationship about a certain character and show how that relationship went to a bad ending because of your least favorite character. Before you do that, identify the progress of the relationship. The progress might cause the character to have a bad relationship with the other character.
View:
View is the most difficult part in the CARVE style. Sometimes, you have to look deep into your thought-to-be least favorite character. They might have a justified reason that they do the actions, like they misunderstood something and etc. If your least favorite character is a minor character, it will be hard for you to look in their perspective because the book focuses on the POV of the main character. However, most of the least favorite characters took an important part in the books. Researching different people’s opinions and ideas about that character can be a good idea. Remember, after you research you have to engage in the character’s perspective and tell why his or her view is wrong in the books.
Effect:
Effect is the result of the actions. What happens in the books when that character did a certain action? Did something go wrong? Identify the effect of the actions of the character. Effect is divided into two parts; individuals and the clan. Individual effect is the effect of the characters around that least favorite character. This links to the relationships about the character. Clan effect is the effect that happens in the clan like destroying reputation, showing weakness, and etc. After you explain the effect and how it affected certain characters or groups, tell how it affects the reader’s minds. What is moral? Were they a bad role model?

These are my least favorite characters. However, I don’t have time to go in full rant mode. If I have time, I could try to explain it whenever necessary in the chat. Please feel free to debate in the chat, and this is my opinion.
