Frostkit analyses Spottedleaf
Yo it’s me, Frostkit! That video game obsessed guy!! yeah, that’s me!
Anyway, I’ve been getting so many compliments on how I’m such a quick and acomplished-for-my-age typer, so I might as well type another article, and this one’s about Spottedleaf. (Note, I will not be defending her, or saying why she’s bland and creepy, I’ll just be analyzing her, and noting her pros and cons and coming to a final summary at the end of the article.)
Is she a bland, perfect side character, or is she an acomplished medicine cat, with a personality?
Personally, you guys, I don’t really think any cat deserves to be called “perfect”, unless they are totally taking over. *Cough, cough, Firestar, cough*
Anyway, let’s get started!
As you all know, Spottedleaf is one of the firstly introduced cats in the series who literally lives for half of a book. But Spottedleaf is mainly focused on when she’s dead and talking to Firestar in his dreams, or the events that occured when she was younger in Spottedleaf’s Heart. I will organize this article in a way that shows you the pros and cons of this character. I’ll start with some cons, because for this character, they’ll be easier.
Usually people around the Blog, and all around YouTube and stuff actually, say that Spottedleaf is just a creepy stalker who walks around in Firestar’s dreams with her “sweet scent” all over the place. Also, they complain that she is getting in Firestar’s way, and sort of tricking her to love him instead, and I bet that really broke Sandstorm’s heart to think that Firestar loved another she-cat. They also say that the ship couldn’t even happen anyway because Spottedleaf is a medicine cat, and she’s also a little old for Firestar.
The majority of people hate Spottedleaf because of the reasons I just stated, but also, an amount of people support Spottedleaf. If you are a Spottedleaf defender, you are respected by me, and if you’re a hater, all the same.
Now for some good things about Spottedleaf:
That amount of people argue that Spottedleaf should be allowed to feel the way she feels as long as Firestar is okay with it, and their counter arguments for the Sandstorm issue is that Spottedleaf probably didn’t want to hurt Sandstorm in any way; she just wanted to talk to Firestar when she could. They also state that Spottedleaf sacrificed her StarClan life for Sandstorm, which was her final gift to Firestar. They say it was brave of her, and should be remembered. Also, in Spottedleaf’s Heart, they say she actually had a personality, and someone who’s perfect wouldn’t be as much of a thinker as Spottedleaf had been when it came to terms with Thistleclaw.
(Note that I haven’t read Spottedleaf’s Heart, but I’m planning to.)
Now that I’ve given supportive information from both sides, I’ll conclude. And it won’t be “nuetral,” or anything like that.
I personally feel that the hating arguments are much more powerful than the defending arguments. I think it makes much more sense to belive that Spottedleaf is a stalker than just wanting to see Firestar. The only powerful defending argument was saving Sandstorm, which was brave and kind to do for Firestar, and not only him, but for Sandstorm too. It was HER life.
Anyway, we have my own thinking too. As I said in the beginning, nobody deserves to be called perfect, unless they’re Firestar. And I believe that in the actual series, Spottedleaf WAS a bit bland, but based on the facts from Spottedleaf’s Heart, she was a courageous and brave decision maker, who knew what was right. Now I’m not necessarily defending Spottedleaf, I’m just saying that overall, she’s not typically a bad character, just not well liked around the place. Just think about her a bit, will you? Does she really seem horrible to you? You can tell me what you think, and I’ll be happy to hear your opinions!!!
Frapple out!
*Teleports to the other side of the planet*
Um… Uh oh…
Why did we miss a whole day of articles? Besides that, I completely agree! Great article!
because i miscalculated when they ran out
When they ran out? Oh, like what time they come out?
We schedule articles manually, and sometimes we schedule ahead and then forget up until which day we’ve scheduled articles for and just take a break until then, so when we remember that there are no articles scheduled for today… well, by that point there are no articles for today 😛
Ohh! Makes sense!
A few years ago there were 17 days without an article being published. That was because there weren’t as many articles being submitted then.
And it’s not a problem at all. Article editors are busy and having to publish two articles every day, even during the holidays, mustn’t be easy. And this way my article was on the top for a whole day 😛
Great article! An interesting fact from a Spottedleaf defender (me) is that SpottedFire isn’t really rushed. Spottedleaf and Fireheart have much time to develop, and Fireheart doesn’t just love Spottedleaf because of her sweet scent. Oh, come on, Spottedleaf is a medicine cat, and she literally works with herbs! In River of Fire, Alderheart described Velvet with a sweet scent as well. Do people go obsessing over Velvet’s generic personality because she has a sweet scent? Well, not really. Also, Velvet lived in a house that was surrounded by fragrant herbs, and she spent so much time in the medicine den in the book; she even introduced a new type of herb to Alderheart when he visited her! Another fun fact about SpottedFire is that Firepaw never felt any romantic affection toward Spottedleaf during the time that she was still alive in Into the Wild. Check it out! He only made note of her sweet scent, but never directly stated that he “loved her in his heart” like several other relationships, such as SandFire. ~ Cloudy
Hey Mistheart! You’re like my FAVORITE Spottedleaf defender!
To everyone (Including Mistheart), I’m a Spottedleaf defender. Spottedleaf’s really over hated and I don’t like it. I mean like, why? She’s really awesome! She’s my 2nd favorite character! I know this is unrelated, but, does anyone know how to change a profile picture? Thanks!
Nice!
I agree with you. Great article!
I honestly like Spottedleaf, I don’t think she was perfect but she was smart, kind, and as Frostkit said, she knew what was right. I do think it’s a little creepy that Spottedleaf kept apearing in Firestar’s dreams and literally wouldn’t just leave him alone. Overall, I personally believe that Spottedleaf is a good character. 🙂
Nice article! I’m a Spottedleaf defender. I feel like she’s misunderstood. She doesn’t deserve the whole hate she receives by her haters. Maybe, she wanted Firestar to be her mate but not in that way. I can’t imagine the sweet Spottedleaf a creepy stalker! And Mistfeather is right, Firestar had a crush on her and I think Spottedleaf as well.
I like spottedleaf. Nice article!
I love Spottedleaf <3
Great article! Spottedleaf, in my opinion, is NOT a Mary-Sue.
Sure Spottedleaf saved sandstorm, but when described in the books she does seem really perfect.
That is true, but in Spottedleaf’s Heart, we see most of her life unfolding. The parts in Into the Wild are only little tiny parts compared to how much is in Spottedleaf’s Heart. So, there was only a small part of her life when she was “perfect.” And mindless people only look at that tiny little part and then assume she is a perfect cat.
I don’t think Spottedleaf is a Mary sue, because she made MAJOR mistakes in her novella, which added to her character majorly before Into the Wild in my opinion (Thistleclaw is the worst) we only saw the “perfect” side of her in Into the Wild.
Spottedleaf’s Heart gave her character depth, and I love it
HMPH. Spottedleaf was my favourite character, and not because she might of been a Mary Sue.
