Drizz defends Hollyleaf from criticism – what do you think of her?
Hi! It’s me, Drizz. I just realized that more people hate on Hollyleaf than I thought, and it made me really sad because I love Hollyleaf. You know, I never knew why I loved her. I just did. But now I know why. It’s because of her never-ending loyalties. To the Warrior Code, to her clan, to herself. She is what the clans have always needed, the one cat willing to always stay loyal to the warrior code. Hollyleaf x Warrior Code is like Starflight x Scrolls (from Wings Of Fire). Hollyleaf could recite the warrior code whenever, Starflight knows literally everything, as long as he read it. Anyway, back to defending.

“She tried to kill her mother!”
True. But how would you react if you’ve been raised your whole life as the daughter of legendary leader Firestar’s daughter and the deputy Bramblestar. Pretty cool, right? You’d feel famous! Then, you find out your parents aren’t your parents. Are you even related to Firestar? Does that mean you’re not one of the three? Because you’re not related to Firestar? Then you find out that you are still related, but by Firestar’s other daughter, who is forbidden to have kits. You still don’t know your father, though, but you are mad, because you’re the daughter of a medicine cat and you broke the code by being born! Oh no…. Now it gets sad, but… you find out your father is of a different clan. Now your birth is even worse! So, Hollyleaf had full rights to get mad at her mother, Leafpool, because of her birth, keeping the secret for so long, and ladidadida. May I remind you Hollyleaf ended up not killing her mother? She could have, but she didn’t.

“She killed an innocent cat to keep a secret then exposed it herself!”
Kind of true. But, remember Ashfur wasn’t all that innocent. He tried to kill Squilf, Lionblaze, Jayfeaher, and Hollyleaf! So, not really innocent. Who knows what Ashfur would have done if he was still alive and Hollyleaf didn’t kill him. I don’t, but I think he would have done some terrible things… Wait, I don’t think, I know. He would have found some other way to get Squilf into his arms – or should I say paws -.

Hollyleaf is TOO loyal to the code, and it’s annoying!
Okay, I don’t know why ANYONE would say that, but her loyalty to the warrior code is the best thing about her! She’s the only cat in the whole series who is that loyal! The clans need more cats like her, it’s a shame she died so young.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hollyleaf is AWESOME! Sure, she was traumatized and stressed out, so she killed Ashfur to keep the secret then later exposed it, but Hollyleaf was one of the only cats who wanted to follow the code, no matter how stupid some of the rules were. She was the most loyal cat, I don’t see any other cats that haven’t been codebreakers. Take Greystripe for example. He’s a good cat, don’t get me wrong. But he breaks the code ALL THE TIME. I don’t see hate on him. Hollyleaf was depressed after she killed Ashfur, because she broke the biggest rule of all, and it killed her. She hated that feeling. She was mad at Leafpool, because her mother basically ruined everything she believed in because she broke the code by being born. She was the daughter of a medicine cat and a ThunderClan cat and WindClan cat. That broke her. Plus, Feathertail and Stormfur didn’t care about being half clan – well for a little – because they knew they were half clan. Imagine being raised by full thunderclan cats, then when you are warriors being told you’re adopted. I would want to murder my parents – or fake ones – for that.
Anyways, that’s all I’ve got! Thank you so much, I hope this makes people realize how awesome Hollyleaf is, and how she doesn’t need any hate. I hope this changes some people’s hate, at least.
“I would want to murder my parents – or fake ones – for that.” I’m a little concerned. Maybe you would want to see a therapist?
(Nice article!)
(thanks)
lol im just kidding i would never
Eh…. I’m indifferent about her. A lot of what she did really just.. didn’t make any sense. Being mad at your parents and stressed out is not an excuse to kill them. Why would you want to kill them, anyway? Don’t you still have a chance to redeem yourself? She should have seen that there could have been some hope in the future, instead of being so narrow-minded and just going full murder mode. I do like, though, how she sacrificed herself to save Ivypool…. That was nice of her lol
Great article and I 100% agree! And not only did Ashfur try to kill Lionblaze (a valuable warrior), Squirrelflight (another valuable warrior), Jayfeather (a MEDICINE CAT), and Hollyleaf (again, a VERY valuable warrior!), he also tried to kill Firestar (the clan LEADER)!!
Just trying to kill anybody is bad, they don’t have to be a “valuable” warrior. Trying to kill Havenpelt is just as bad as trying to kill Leafstar. You can care more about one, but murder is murder. (Unless they are a horrible person, like Rainflower or Bramblestar or Shrewclaw or Ashfur)
:3
Thanks!
Great article! I love Hollyleaf too <3
thankks
Nice article! I realllly agree!
thanks !!
I actually really like holly leaf but I have to disagree with some of ur points. The only reason that she let her mother live is because she would suffer more that way. She had lost her kids, her job, no one respected her anymore, she lost her connection with Starclan etc. her life was miserable for a while and that is why she let Leafpool live. Hollyleaf was bad. And honestly I wish the authors would have made her become completely evil in the tunnels. I think it would have been cool that whenever she came back got thunder clan she should have tried to kill Dovewing and reclaim her place as the third cat. But yeah I really like Hollyleaf and I think people should stop painting her as a good girl who was the victim. I mean cool motives still murder. Yeah she had been treated extremely unfairly but ultimately she killed ashfur to keep him silent. And she said the secret she killed him not to say at the gatherings. I’m not hating on Hollyleaf and I do like her, she’s a good change from the cats who ALWAYS try to do what’s best for their clans. I wouldn’t say that Hollyleaf is truly evil, but she isn’t truly good either.
I agree 🙂
Also I say that I like Hollyleaf but I don’t like her personality. I like the role her character plays. How she reacts. She’s well written but I do find her a bit annoying. And yeah I think she is a bit to freaky about following the warrior code, but that’s just me personally. Some people might like that
Also graystipe and holly leaf are not comparable. Yes he broke the code a lot, but he murdered in cold blood and attempted murder. He saw a girl from a different clan and they hade kits. Hollyleaf killed someone else, and was going to kill another cat but didn’t since she wanted Leafpool to suffer. Their actions are not comparable
Wait…. Graystripe murdered in cold-blood? I don’t remember this. Are you talking about Clawface or Darkstripe? Because that was for the good of his own Clan.
Misty meant “she”, not “he”. Misty was talking about Hollyleaf
Ah got’chu
sorry about that lol
Hollyleaf didn’t murder in cold blood. She did what she thought was right, she was trying to protect her and her siblings from being exposed. The warrior code meant the world to her, and it broke her when she did murder Ashfur. In the end, she did what a good warrior would do and exposed the secret herself, knowing it would get out anyway and she couldn’t escape the fact she was half clan. She regretted killing Ashfur. And may I point out if she became evil, it would ruin everything she ever lived for. She was a loyal warrior at heart, and thats why she returned to her clan. I disagree with what you said (painting her as the good girl who was the victim). She was the victim, she was trapped inside problems that never started with her. She was born half clan, she was born to a medicnie cat. She needed to do something so she wasn’t seen as a victim. And she was a good girl at heart
And Leafpool didn’t have to step down, she chose to. In OotS, Jayfeather kept thinking that Leafpool didn’t have to. And Leafpool always had a connection with starclan, but during the few moons she wasn’t a medicine cat she didn;t use it
she still murdered a cat in cold blood. It wasnt in a fight. She killed him to keep him quiet, and she says that. Then she revealed it. Killing is what the warrior code goes against, and she actually thinks that the warrior code is dead whenever she tells everyone at the gathering. So she didnt kill him for the warrior code. She killed him to keep him quiet. Yes Leafpool probably wouldnt have been allowed to stay medicine cat after that, and stepping down didnt make not being a medicine cat any easier. She still suffered.
And murdering somebody bc “u think it’s right” does not justify it. Yes she wasn treated unfairly, but she was never right to kill anybody. The outcome would have been exactly the same had Ashfur lived. Also, Leafpool didn’t have much of a choice. The clans would have never let her stay medicine cat. She just quit before she was fired. Hollyleaf was not Ashfurs victim. Yes she was lied to, but lying is not justification for murder. Hollyleaf behavior could almost be compared to sadistic behavior. She wanted to see Leafpool suffer, and she enjoyed seeing Squirrelflight suffer. That is sadistic and cruel behavior. Also, if the warrior code meant “so much to her” she would not have murdered Ashfur. This not only breaking one rule, but two. She returned yes, but she still abandoned her clan in a time of need. She left her brothers, her step father, all because she was scared to face them. That she would be exposed for her actions. Also I just think it would have been cool for her to go crazy from hate and grief.
YES!!! I agree 100%. You did a great job of proving your points!
thanks
Great article, I like Holleyleaf except that she killed one of my favorite characters, Ashfur
Ashfur is horrible. Do you like him as a villain? Like, I love darktail, but I was glad when he died.
thanks. I was neutral on Ashfur until TBC, now I don’t like him. He’s too obsesive
Her undying loyalty to the warrior code is the WORST thing about her. It is annoying, especially since the warrior code is biased, doesn’t make sense, and useless. It is also annoying how hippocritical Hollyleaf is. If she just was obsessed with the warrior code, it would be very annoying, but fine. But she just had to do the opposite of what she was saying and change the rules in her mind just for her. Some other cats that will follow the warrior code for life are Spiderleg, Thornclaw, and (in the last 3 books of AVOS) Sparkpelt. I think we can all agree they are jerks. I am glad hollyleaf got out of that faze when she killed ashfur.
That’s exactly how I feel about Hollyleaf
“May I remind you Hollyleaf ended up not killing her mother? She could have, but she didn’t.”
->I don’t think this makes her innocent. She attempted murder though… :/ Okay, let’s say that… someone that hates you tried to k!ll you. (wow this is unfortunate) Then, they suddenly just send you back home after they tried to feed you poison. You call the police, and they find the person who tried to k!ll you. You and the person go to the court or something :/ and the person says “oh, but I didn’t kill her in the end” and the cops just let him/her go! W H A T???? That just doesn’t make sense. I think that even if they didn’t k!ll anyone, if they attempted to k!ll, than they’re guilty. Also attempting murder is bad and you shouldn’t do it if you’re JUST mad! (you shouldn’t do it NO MATTER WHAT, actually :/)
” I would want to murder my parents – or fake ones – for that.”
->um you were probably just joking but if your life sucks, than go see a therapist maybe… (or the hug page..)
(I used to hate Hollyleaf and I still kind of do now lol also sorry for making you read all this I just really disagree with you)
i agree
This is an amazing article, I actually never knew people didn’t like her!
