MoonTabby shares their thoughts on the WindClan leader Harestar.
Hello lovely Blog! I’m Moon, here with my second fan article! Today I’ll be discussing a cat who I think is the most boring leader in Warriors: Harestar. Why does this cat lack so much personality? Why is he not as interesting as the other leaders? I’ll be looking into the life of this under-developed character, and I hope you enjoy this article!

Harestar lacks much personality. We don’t get many close-ups of him! Sure, we see him at Gatherings and such, but we don’t have personal contact with him through a protagonist. Think about it: Through Firestar’s eyes, we had an in-depth look at such leaders as Tallstar, Crookedstar, Mistystar, and so on. When we moved onto the later protagonists, like Brambleclaw, the Three, Alderheart, and more, they all had some interactions and meetings with the other Clan leaders, giving us a more rounded perception of those cats.
How does Harestar differ from that? Well, he was introduced into the series starting with the “Power of Three” arc, I believe, and how many times has a protagonist met with him, up close and personal? Certainly not enough for us to get a deeper feel for this character. We think of him as the current leader of WindClan, but what else? Is that really the only thing that comes to mind with Harestar? For instance, most of us think of Tallstar as more than just a WindClan leader – we think of him as Firestar’s good friend; as the cat who left his Clan to explore beyond Clan boundaries; as the leader who passed the deputy position onto Onewhisker/star instead of Mudclaw. See? Now, with Harestar, not much comes to mind when we think of him, except “He’s that boring WindClan leader with no personality.” When we think of a leader, there should be a vivid thing about that cat that comes to mind.
What great deeds has he accomplished for his Clan? Not much. What sacrifices has he made for the Clans? Nothing. He was a minor character before he was a deputy – we hardly ever saw him. βThe Broken Codeβ arc probably did the best to improve upon his character, but only slightly. He still lacks a lot of personality!
What can help with that? I think that having a Super Edition for Harestar would help greatly. Weβd understand him far better if we saw his own point of view! We might also need another WindClan protagonist, one who is around Harestar every day to give us a sense of who heβs like with his Clan.
I hope that in the coming βA Starless Clanβ arc, we will see more of Harestar! I believe he has potential, but he just needs to be given the spotlight.
Thank you for reading my article! What do you think of Harestar? Is he really as boring as he seems? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
– MoonTabby, out!
Cool article!
Great article! Harestar is so boring.
WE WANT CROWSTAR! DOWN WITH HARESTAR!
Crowstar manifestations over here
Great Article!!
Great article! It’d be really cool to see a Harestar SE – maybe him struggling with hiding his relations to the DF and then suddenly becoming deputy.
The artist of the cover image is Songsteps! Their Deviantart is LttleGhost.
Great article! π I personally disagree- I love Harestar! I think he’s really sweet and emphatic; it’s refreshing to see a leader who cares about cats not just their Clan (e.g giving herbs to ShadowClan when they really needed it).
Nice article!
Nice article, Moon! I politely disagree. In Crowfeather’s Trial, Harestar (Harespring then) is shown to be a kindred and warm cat to Crowfeather and his Clanmates. However, I agree that a Super Edition concerning him would be very appealing to readers and could possibly capture some other traits of his personality!
I agree, Harestar is SOOOOO boring. They really should make a super edition for Harestar.
Background Leader! But heβs at least better than Onestar.
Who wants a Harestar novella about his crush on Heathertail?
