Sweetpaw shares why they don’t like Ivypool.
So, hi. I’m Sweetpaw/whisker. This is my first article here on Blogclan. I wanted to first throw out some random things. This is all very subjective, especially since I maintain a good relationship with all my sisters. Also, I’ve always liked Ivypool as a character, but never as a person (cat?) I’ve also always liked Dovewing better. Take all of this article with a grain of salt. Also, I’m only looking at Ivypool in Omen of the stars. No Vision of Shadows or Broken Code.
(Spoilers for OoTs, I think?)
So… Ivypool. Where do I start?
Maybe I don’t like her personality and the things she does, but a thing I like about her as a character is her consistent portrayal. No matter what, she does have an unfailing personality. She’s prickly, close-minded, and bitter throughout OoTs. Her dynamic with Dovewing is true-to-type and persistent. She’s jealous of Dovepaw during apprenticeship and that jealousy still resonates throughout Ivypool’s life.
But while she’s a constant character, I still don’t like her. Angry with her sister for what I comprehend and see as ridiculous and small-minded reasons, willing to spy on the Dark Forest but she never tells anyone anything, and far too stubborn and set in her ways. She does mellow out later but in OoTs, it’s a small amount.
A lot of people point out the “fact” that Ivypool cares deeply for her sister and Dovewing does not return this. Here’s a passage from Night Whispers, first page of chapter 9.
[quote]
Dovepaw saw that one of Ivypaw’s eyes was bruised and swollen around the socket. “You’re hurt!”
Ivypaw turned away, hiding her injury in shadow. “It’s nothing.”
“Did that happen in your dream?” Frustration clawed Dovepaw. “You were fighting in the Place of No Stars again, weren’t you?”
Ivypaw thrust her muzzle into Dovepaw’s face. “Shut up!”
“You mustn’t go there!” Dovepaw felt heat pulsing from Ivypaw’s swollen eye.
Ivypaw pushed past her. “Keep your whiskers out of my business.”
“Why can’t you see how dangerous it is?”
But Ivypaw had barged away through the ferns.
Help her, StarClan! Help her to see that she’s wrong. And protect her. Dovepaw closed her eyes. Please, StarClan. She steadied herself with a
deep breath and nosed her way out of the den.
[end quote]
In this passage, Dovepaw worries for her sister’s safety in the Dark Forest. She even prays to StarClan asking them to help Ivypaw realize that she is doing things wrong and endangering herself, as well as a request for them to protect her from the dangers of the Dark Forest.
Several more times Dovewing also worries about Ivypool’s safety.
I also know there’s a few instances when Ivypool reflects on how hard it must be for Dovewing to hear everything. Sadly, I can’t give the exact details, since I lost all my other OoTs books and have not a clue where they
It got cut off noooo!
Srry it got cut off D:
I had lots more reasoning here before wah-
Great article! But I disagree. Ivypool is way better than Dovewing. Ivypool mellows out a lot and becomes a caring mother and mate. I love her feisty personality. People (or cats) think as the she-cats as pretty and sweet and a little weak. Ivypool proves them wrong! She is my favorite character. I also LOVE her name. Though I feel like it should be Ivyfrost.
Actually Ivypool was a terrible mate and mother. (In my opnion)
Your name is very weird (in my opinion)
Great Article!!
I do not love Dovewing. She is a fine character but Ivypool is a QUEEN!!!! Reason why? She only wanted to go to the dark forest to spy! Not train there! She only trained there to spy! Also, I don’t like Dovewing much because she left her sister, her kin, and her beautiful clan Thunderclan to go to some stupid Shadowclan and mate some stupid cat named Tigerstar! (the second). Ivypool’s personality is amazing at brave. That’s why if I was an apprentice, I will instantly want her to be my mentor. Yes, I know that Dovewing was trying to be by her side and try to protect her safety, but she had to spy, just to help her clan. So, I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I still love Ivypool and you can not change that. Bye!
Would like to say to everyone talking about how Ivypool mellowed out later and was a kind mother and mate: REREAD THE FIRST PARAGRAGH. It says clearly that I was talking about OOTS IVYPOOL, not any of her in the series that followed OoTs. I never read Broken Code or Vision of Shadows, nor do I intend to. My article was purely on the version of Ivypool I have read about in the series I have access to, not any other version.
I personally love Ivypool and dislike Dovewing because I think Ivypools personality is unique I liked how she barely mellowed out and I loved her chapters.
Ehhh, I’ve seen better articles. Also, Dovewing is also a brat sometimes. Whenever a cat asks Dovewing to use her powers, she whines and makes a big deal about it.
Plus, Dovewing tells Ivypool that she’s breaking the Warrior code and being “disloyal,” by going to the Dark Forest. When DOVEWING was the one visiting Tigerheart secretly.
And the Warrior Code clearly says “You cannot fall in love with a cat from another Clan.”
But it DOESN’T say “You may not train in the Dark Forest with Tigerstar.”
And Ivypool has a right to be jealous- Her sister had powers, and that made it easier to do things, and Ivypaw that she wasn’t good enough because Dovepaw did everything better because she could hear everything.
Also all we hear about Divewing is “Tigerheart, Tigerheart, Tigerheart.” Like she’s always thinking about Tigerheart, and using her powers to hear what he’s doing, when she should be focusing on helping her Clan.
Also she treats Bumblestripe like a scratching post. She acts nice to him one day and gets his hopes up, and then the next day she acts like a jerk to him. He’s a really sweet cat, and deserves better then that.
Also, when she’s expecting Tigerhearts kits, she is really snappy and tries to get him to come with her when his Clan is struggling. She’s only thinking of herself. And she’s kind of dumb, because she decides to go to a place she’s never been before, where there are two-legs, cars, dogs, other cats, etc., instead of staying with her Clan where there are trained Warriors. Plus nothing ever happened to the nursery.
And then when she returns, her Clan welcomes her back, but then she says to their faces that she picked love over her Clan. I feel really bad for Ivypool at this point, because she was scared when her sister left. She was scared her sister was injured she died. And then Dovewing returns home and is like “Okay, I’m leaving you. Bye.” And when her Clanmates are mad at her and call her a traitor (A traitor: A person (in this case a cat) who betrays another person, a cause, or any trust. A person who commits treason by betraying their country (or Clan). ) So yes, Dovewing would be considered a traitor. And then she starts whining. Well look at Ivypool? She isn’t whining even though you are leaving her! I have a lot of things against Dovewing, and in this case, I feel like I have to stand up for Ivypool.

Personally I really dislike Bumblestripe because I feel like he put a lot of pressure on Dovewing to have kittens with him when she really didn’t have to. I love Ivypool as well and prefer her to Dovewing, however Bumblestripe is definitely not a scratching post. He was so unfair on dovewing and treated her awfully, trying to ask her out right after her friend purdy had died
