Thunderclan’s Leadership Problem by Azaleapaw

Azaleapaw takes a look at ThunderClan’s leadership problem.

Hi Blogclan! This is Azaleapaw here sharing my opinion on Thunderclan’s leadership problem. You are completley free to feel elsewise about this, I am just saying my opinion. (**SPOILERS FOR THE BROKEN CODE**)

So the problem is, ever since Firestar has become leader, every other leader/deputy after has been related to Firestar. Now, Bramblestar doesn’t share the same blood as Firestar, but his mate is Firestar’s daughter so technically, Firestar is his father-in-law. Now I get that you would put your kin as deputy because you trust them the most, but it’s also unfair to the other cats. Squirrelflight is Bramblestar’s mate and Firestar’s daughter. When Lionblaze was chosen as deputy (When Squilf was acting leader) Lionblaze is Leafpool’s son which makes Firestar his grandfather and Bramblestar his uncle. In TBC (Don’t know which book it was) Lionblaze and Thornclaw (I think?) were fighting in the clearing. Thornclaw brought up a good point that so far, only kin of Firestar has gotten a chance to play a leading role. I know Fire, Bramble and Squilf didn’t have any bad intentions but it’s super unfair to other loyal warrior who work just as hard. Now, I’m not forgetting that Firestar first picked Whitestorm and Graystripe as deputy. It’s just a shame that the Erins made one die and the other disappear. If this Firestar kin thing keeps continuing, Thornclaw and others might start a revolution that could tear Thunderclan apart. If Bramblestar ever does loose his ninth life, and Squilf becomes leader it’s most likely she’s going to pick Lionblaze. I’m just hoping that if the series continues this far, Lionblaze might give other cats who are not kin a chance to become Thunderclan’s leader.

(I’m just saying to be fair 50% of the clan is Firestar’s kin but still…)

I’m actually curious to see if anyone has spotted this before. Thornclaw made this remark and some of my friends who read the book said they didn’t think much of it. Am I just diving in too deep into theories or have any of you thought a little about it?

Anyways, thanks for listening to my ranting on Thunderclan’s leadership problem. Again, this is just my opinion and if you feel elsewise that’s completley okay. I guess I’ll see you all in the next article!

  • I completely agree! I would love to see squilf as leader (since it would be the first female leader since blue star) but i hope after them they choose someone else. I’m also pretty sure everyone in the clan is related to each other is some way-

Nice article! I agree with your points – it would be far more impartial and intriguing of Squirrelflight (if she ascended to a leadership position) if she chose a deputy whom is not a part of Firestar’s kin. I like how you ordered this article chronologically so that the readers could experience the entire timeline of ThunderClan’s deputies and leaders. Good job!

  • Good article. I really didn’t pay any attention to this, but I did think it was strange that Suilf and Bramble were Deputy and Leader, while being mates.
