Most of us here on the Blog have been here for the arrival of River back in April. However, when I talk to some of my IRL warrior nerd friends, they all seem to agree that River’s plot seemed a little fishy. One of them, Lightningstream, is from Riverclan, so he was MAD when RiverClan’s beloved leader and deputy passed away. But he seemed to think they were accidents, and nothing wrong had occurred to them. Firefrost and Dreampuff, however, said that something was up with their deaths. Here are a few theories that the 3 of us came up with.
l. Some sort of DF warrior is back
For those of us that read Mapleshade’s Vengeance, we all remember her swearing to end Reedshine/Appledusk’s legacy. Even if you’ve never read this book, the fandom has been blowing up about for years, debating whether Mapleshade deserved the DF and if Appledusk should have gone, Frecklewish’s death, etc. Even if you’ve been on the blog for a day, you’ve seen some sort of article about Mapleshade. There are some theories that I have heard that explain how Mapleshade will be back to end Appledusk’s descendants once and for all. If you look closely, you can find that Reedwhisker and Mistystar are related to him. Could that be a reason for their death? After all, Dark Forest warriors have come out before. Could it happen again?
ll. Lightleap’s Problem
I’ve seen the upset fans that have wished for Sunbeam to be treated better. I think that while most of us might overlook the fact that Lightleap was fighting someone and then Reedwhisker died, some of us might have a bit of suspicion about what happened. Personally, the fact that Reedwhisker died right after Lightleap was fighting a cat is too fishy to ignore. Lightleap might have gotten her malicious attitude from the Dark Forest. For those of us who REALLY want Mapleshade to be a villain, it could be that Lightleap has been training in the DF and has gotten the idea to murder Reedwhisker from Mapleshade, which ties into her wanting to end Appledusk’s family line.
lll. A Traitor Is Among RiverClan…..
That would be a little more unlikely. However, Mistystar has been a leader since OoTS, and some cats in RiverClan could be a little unsatisfied. Dreampuff has suggested that Curlfeather was evil and was actually trying to take over the Clan. The thing is, there isn’t much argument against this theory because we’ve never seen much from RiverClan. Like, ever! So, this could be a really well-played ploy from the Erins. Well played, well played.
So, what do you think? Which one of these theories could be the truth? Or do you have another reason that Reedwhisker and Mistystar died so suddenly?

I feel like its a deeper conspiracy than we think. (Spoilers Ahead) For example, when Curlfeather dies she tells Frostpaw to trust no cat. I feel like this wasn’t just a random statement, but a true warning against a cat that she knows sent the dogs to kill her. I feel like Curlfeather, Duskfur, lightleap, Splashtail and several other cats were involved in some conspiracy. When Curlfeather gets attacked by the dogs she may know that she was betrayed by one of if not all of her fellow conspirators. If there was a conspiracy by multiple cats to kill Reedwhisker, they would have to know that Mistystar is old and on her last life. She would have to appoint a new deputy and would die soon after. However, the plan would be ruined when she died before they killed Reedwhisker. Another piece of evidence that supports this is the fact that Duskfur is supremely pushy for the title of leader, and the fact that Lightleap fought with a cat right before Reedwhisker’s death. Just saying.
Spoilers for Shadow – It says that Curlfeather witnessed the death, or was on the general patrol. She also appears in the Villians Wiki and is in the DF. She definitely conspired with Splashtail and Duskfur somehow, but if not, did something on that patrol. She didn’t do anything evil other than this. I also have a foreboding feeling that this may link to Squirrelflight, and I have a sinking feeling that we will see a potential Ivystar sooner than we thought, or even wished. Spoilers for the Thunder blurb start here- It says in the blurb that if Squirrelflight gets her nine lives, Ivypool will be ThunderClan’s deputy. But before I get too far into ThunderClan, let’s talk Mistystar. Mistystar was on her last life as of River and she died from a supposed heart attack, collapsing mid-argument with one of her clanmates while Reedwhisker was on patrol with the noted cats: Curlfeather, Splashtail, and Podlight. Keep in mind that I’m only noting relevant cats. This argument seems to have been staged, possibly by the patrol cats besides Reedwhisker to take out the deputy and leader at once for power. Splashtail and Duskfur might have betrayed and lured the dogs over to the Moonpool to kill Curlfeather so they could become leader and deputy. Curlfeather might have been betrayed. Anyway, it seems weird that they ended the blurb with Squirrelflight and Bramblestar – if all goes well, Squirrelstar and Brambleclaw will go to the Moonpool. This is exactly the way Squirrelflight’s Hope ends as well. They are definitely hiding a major plot point surrounding this from us and waiting for Thunder’s release to keep us on our toes. I doubt they’ll disappoint and not cause an issue for Squirrelflight if they’re keeping the tension. I’ll keep you guys updated on upcoming information.
Its Splashtsil that killed Mistystar Reedwhisker and Curlyfeather! Look in the book, Wind’s blurb!
I believe it could have been Splashtail. He was on the last patrol with Reedwhisker, and he is the only major character who was there, and he seems to be pressing Frostpaw into becoming a medicine cat and making someone a leader. Yes, he is shown to have been interacting with shadow clan cats to rid river clan of shadow clan, but could it be that he also wants to be made a leader. He is seen to have been expecting him to be chosen as leader leader, and he definitely possesses some good qualities of a leader. Or am I just crazy?

Spoilers for Thunder and Wind. We now know that Splashtail and Curlfeather murdered Reedwhisker but have no idea what happened to Mistystar. Splashtail is now “Splashstar of RiverClan BUT, he does not have 9 lives. Mothwing has a new apprentice as Podlight and he became a med cat with his so-called “visions.” Podlight is confirmed to have conspired with Splashtail after Splashtail murdered Curlfeather with dogs. When Splashtail and Podlight go to the Moonpool and think of silly ideas for how leaders get nine lives, such as hunting nine mice, fighting nine cats, ect. So, let us see how the Erin’s deal with RiverClan’s cat-astrophe( see what I did there?) and find out who RiverClan’s new leader is going to be.
