So, you know how your English class is sometimes boring? Or the teacher is the ABSOLUTE WORST? Well the stuff they are teaching is really important if you want to make a good warrior cats fan fiction. So think about the stuff you have learned from that class, like similes and personification. Erin Hunter uses techniques you practice in school, that is why her books are selling. So let’s take after Erin Hunter’s example and I will walk you through making a fan fiction.
Okay, every Erin Hunter book in the beginning has a little description of all of the clans and cats in them. Imagine and make up new characters for your own book. Take some characteristics from other characters in her books and create a new cat with them. I like thinking of two items that can be found in nature and then giving a pelt that matches the name. Like my name is Autumnpaw (In the future it will be Autumnfire) and her body description is dappled ginger she-cat with brown eyes. The dappled part made me think about Fall and all the colors mixed together yet you can pick them out. And so I named her Autumnpaw after the fall colors that are on her body. Make sure your clan descriptions are just like the Erin Hunter books. Make sure you have these categories: Leader, Deputy, Medicine Cat, Warriors, Apprentices, Queens, and Elders. Don’t list the kits though. For some reason the Erin Hunters never did add them and we are trying to make our books seem like one of theirs. You can make as many clans as you want. Just not too many, I normally just have four clans (Not including Starclan). Once you are finished with that you can add some personalities in your cat character description, for example: Midnightsky: Kind, black she-cat, with dark blue eyes. One more thing after I end this first step with you, make sure each of your clans have something common with your cats, for example if I had a clan named Forestclan I would try to make all the cat’s names something that can be found in a forest, if you just randomly put a cat named Snowdrop in a clan that lives in the desert it would make NO SENSE AT ALL. Onto the next step.
Every Erin Hunter book has a mysterious prologue that gives you some background details that you can use to connect with other things in the future. In your prologue you can do whatever you want! My prologue for my fan fiction is Autumnpaw’s mother having her then being told by the medicine cat that something will happen to Autumnpaw, but she can’t tell what will happen, and in the future of my book Autumnpaw leaves the clan. So make your prologue tie into your book in some way.
