Hollykit shares why they think Greystripe shouldn’t have become deputy of ThunderClan.

Hello! My name is Petalkit, and I’m here to discuss why Graystripe should not have been chosen as deputy.
Now, it would make sense for Firestar to choose his friend as deputy, but friendship isn’t important in deputy-choosing. It’s how dedicated the cat acted towards their clan in their life. Graystripe wasn’t at all dedicated. He had a forbidden romance with Silverstream, a RiverClan cat, and neglected his apprentice to meet up with her. On top of that, he joined her clan!
When RiverClan and ThunderClan were in battle, Graystripe couldn’t bring himself for attacking Firestar, thus proving his bad taste of loyalty to even to a clan that he had joined for his mate. Graystripe was a clan-hopper and broke codes. He fits in the exact opposite role of a deputy, who are supposed to be dedicated and loyal to their clan. Graystripe hadn’t done anything noble or noticeable to his clan.
Later, when Graystripe returns on one Gathering, he has ANOTHER mate that causes him to break the code, and she’s Millie. He feels no remorse for his actions of leaving his friends, and breaking the code, which is NOT deputy material.
Also, to be a deputy, you need to finish training with your apprentice. Graystripe, like I stated earlier, had left his apprentice for Silverstream. This isn’t mentoring, or even having an apprentice at all! Graystripe neglected his apprentice, his friends, his clan, and the Warrior Code itself.
If Graystripe wasn’t a good deputy, then who would be? Well, I have many suggestions. Longtail, Dustpelt, Brackenfur, and even Mousefur! All were loyal to their clans, leader, warrior code, and didn’t neglect things from their own birthplace. They all had undying respect and loyalty to their clan, and to Firestar.
Although, looking over this, it would make sense for Firestar to choose Graystripe over such hard times, especially as Whitestorm’s last wish was for Graystripe to be deputy. However, this doesn’t change my opinion. Graystripe was a nice warrior, but not exactly fit to be a deputy.
So yeah! Those are my thoughts. I’ll see you all later!
Great article! Brackenfur would have been a better deputy. Brackenstar… <3
Yes I totally agree from the bottom of my heart Brackenfur should have been deputy instead of Graystripe AND Brambleclaw. I would have loved to see a brackenstar since Brackenfur is my fave.
Yes!!!
Good article! I mostly agree with your points, except for a slight piece of controversy with the “Clan-hopper” idea. Graystripe had to endure the risks of switching Clans – and the possible punishment or scorn from his new leader, Leopardstar, if he showed any remaining loyalty toward Firestar and ThunderClan. Yet Graystripe, aware of all of those inherent dangers, still protected Firestar from Leopardstar and other RiverClan cats in that fateful battle. Doesn’t that prove his loyalty to ThunderClan more than anything? Regardless, Graystripe can’t control his own emotions – he couldn’t stop himself from falling in love with Silverstream, just as Firestar couldn’t stop himself from falling in love with Sandstorm. Yes, he neglected Brackenpaw’s training – a point I can’t argue against. But he also attempted with the entirety of his will to remain loyal to ThunderClan! When Feathertail and Stormfur were born, he knew that he couldn’t orphan his half-Clan kits in RiverClan where he couldn’t prevent their Clanmates from lashing out unfairly at them, innocent as they were. Still, he never lost or forgot his dedication to ThunderClan, and eventually partook in multiple punishments and assignments to redeem his loyalty. Throughout this, Graystripe matured as a character, becoming more serious, sophisticated, aware, and resilient – all qualities of a good deputy. So, yes, while I mainly agree with your point and justification, there are reasons behind why Graystripe was made deputy. Great job!
Yeah, I agree. I feel like if Whitestorm hadn’t died, he would make a great leader. (Maybe the whole imposter thing wouldn’t happen)
I’m going to say this as calmly as I can….
Graystripe did not leave his clan! he was taken from it! by a Twoleg! and if you have read Graysrtipe’s adventure, he wants to go back from Twolegplace! he risks his LIFE to go back to his home! Millie helped him along the way and they became mates! I just can’t see how that breaks the code! And yes, I would like a Brakenstar and maybe he could’ve been a deputy for Graystar, INSTEAD of Brambleclaw and Squif.
Yes! I totally agree! People always talk about how GREAT Graystripe was, but he wasn’t good at all! He was so untrustworthy! He never has a time where he is loyal!
