Meadowfern draws parallels between the protagonists of A Starless Clan and The Broken Code.
Hi, it’s Meadowpaw with my second article! This one is about protagonists from ASC and TBC and how they are alike. I will be explaining what Frostpaw and Shadowsight, Nightheart and Rootspring, and Sunbeam and Bristlefrost have in common. I hope you enjoy it! 😀
1. Frostpaw and Shadowsight(and Alderheart)
Frostpaw is the first POV from RiverClan, which makes me happy because all of the arcs have all had ThunderClan POVs. A Starless Clan still has a ThunderClan protagonist, but just this time the whole arc isn’t based on ThunderClan. Frostpaw is a medicine cat apprentice eager to do her best to serve the Clan. Both Shadowsight and Alderheart were exactly like that! Just like Frostpaw, Shadowsight also had visions as a kit. I think a medicine cat with a backstory and personality kind of like Yellowfang or Jayfeather would be more interesting. Both Yellowfang and Jayfeather didn’t want to be medicine cats, but decided it was best for them. They both also have a grumpy personality, though Jayfeather is definitely grumpier. Frostpaw’s personality is also like the other two medicine cats(Shadowsight and Alderheart). She is an anxious, nervous medicine cat apprentice just wanting to be the best medicine cat for RiverClan. When they were apprentices both Shadowsight and Alderheart were worried they wouldn’t be good medicine cats, like Frostpaw. They all are kindhearted cats as well, not as prickly and bad-tempered like Jayfeather, though he is still a good cat.
2. Flamepaw/Nightheart and Rootspring
Nightheart and Rootspring aren’t as alike as Frostpaw is to Shadowsight, but they do have some similarities. Nightheart didn’t want to be related to Firestar because everyone in his Clan always compared him to Firestar. Rootspring was kind of embarrassed of having Tree as a father, and didn’t want to be related to Tree because he thought Tree was “weird.” Both Nightheart and Rootspring wanted to prove they weren’t like their relatives, Firestar and Tree.
3. Sunbeam and Bristlefrost
Sunbeam was expecting to be Blazefire’s mate, kind of like how Bristlefrost was dreaming of being Stemleaf’s mate. Blazefire broke Sunbeam’s relationship with him, and Stemleaf told Bristlefrost he didn’t like her. Both these characters were in kind of a similar situation where the cats they wanted or expected to be their mates told them they didn’t want to be mates with them. Both Sunbeam and Bristlefrost were very loyal, though I don’t think Bristlefrost was as much of a rule-follower as Sunbeam is.
Well this is basically all I could think of, thanks for reading! 🙂

Great article! (First?)
Great article! I agree, i noticed that as soon as Blazefire broke up with Sunbeam
Awesome article!! I feel like Bristlefrost and Sunbeam are also similar because even though they both got rejected by the cat they loved most, they still both moved on and found another cat to love, and possibly (OK, for Bristlefrost, DEFINITELY!) a better mate than their former mate/crush. (For Sunbeam, Nightheart (I don’t really like this ship, I feel like it was too rushed…), and for Bristlefrost, Rootspring!!)
Nice! I personally didn’t draw the connection between Frostpaw-Shadowsight-Alderheart and Rootspring-Nightheart, but I had a flash of “oh, yeah, the ‘sorry, I don’t want to be your mate, I’m in love with some other cat’ plotline again!” when Blazefire told Sunbeam he didn’t love her in the medicine den. Honestly, though, he said he DID love her, but in a platonic way ?? HOW DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE
This is great! They are all very similar (I think we can blame that on the writers starting to run out of ideas)
I definitely agree! Great article!
Great article. I agree
Great article!!!
I agree I love Sun x Night, and Root x Bristle there so cute and similar
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed these similarities. Notice how Sunbeam and Nightheart are in a forbidden relationship? Like Bristlefrost and Rootspring? Notice how Nightheart wasn’t comfortable in his Clan? Like how Rootspring felt. Notice how Frostpaw is doubting her own connection to StarClan when her Clan was depending on her? Like Shadowsight in the entirety of TBC. Notic how Sunbeam is sort of doubting her leader and wondering if he should be overthrown? Like Bristlefrost in the first half of TBC. I have a feeling, just a hunch really, that either Nightheart or Sunbeam is going to die. There has been a pattern of one of the characters in the (possible) forbidden relationship dying recently. Needletail. Bristlefrost. Who’s next?
Hmm, its almost like the three TBC protags’ backstories and personalities were recycled… 😉
Great article, Meadow! 😀 <3
Great Article!!
great article!
