Hey everyone! Skypaw/mist here!
Have you ever hesitated when choosing a name? Unsure of what name and appearance to choose?
Well, I’ve got a technique to help you! I’ll call it mixing.
It is mixing canon cats to create new characters!
Let me give some examples…
So, let’s say you want to do a main character for a story. Let’s say they are born good but events around them change them into a murderer…But you have no idea where to start.
How to solve this?
Well, I, personally, would mix villains with heroes, most likely main ones. Let’s try this:
Firestar(heart) and Tigerstar(claw)!
Okay, so for names…
First off, Tigerheart is canon, but if it wasn’t it could work. And also, it might be cool to use hero prefix and villain suffix? Just an idea, as the cat was originally good but became evil.
So we get Fireclaw.
Appearance:
Well, we could make him ginger like Firestar, because of the prefix Fire (fire is orange/ginger)! We could also make him brown but with green eyes, not really resembling fire…
We could add tabby markings and long claws, Tigerstar characteristics (the “long claws” fits pretty well with the name “Fireclaw”). We could also leave him plain brown(or ginger), but, huh? I think it’s too simple…And not really a good mixing. But, if you like it and it fits your character, then purrfect! Let’s go to the next step!
Backstory:
This one is kinda optional. But let’s try it.
Cat was originally good – became bad later.
Anyway, should Fireclaw be a former kittypet drawn by ambition? Maybe his kittypet father abandoned him?
I vote for both.
Family:
Optional as well! We could have Goldenflower be the mother of Fireclaw’s kits, Squirrelflight and Leafpool, for example. Or we could do some mixing! It’s not hard in that case!
We could have Goldenstorm/Sandflower, golden tabby with green eyes / a pale ginger tabby with amber eyes, mother of Fireclaw’s kits Squirrelclaw / Brambleflight and Leafpelt / Tawnypool. All good names, or at least decent ones, right?
His father could be Jake or Pine, or maybe…I dunno how to mix kittypet names, forgive me- (maybe Pike xD or Jane)
His sister Princess could be named Night or Mist/y after Tigerstar’s sisters Nightkit and Mistkit.
Result:
Fireclaw, a ginger tabby tom-cat with amber eyes. He was once a kittypet but joined ThunderClan. He was drawn by his ambition after his kittypet father abandoned him, and became mates with Goldenstorm/Sandflower, who mothered his kits. Later on, he becomes leader of ThunderClan after murdering the deputy, Liontail/Redheart and then the leader. For the deputy, he named Darkstorm/Whitestripe.
Do you like it?? I certainly think this is a cool villain!!
And with that technique you can do cats like Solfur/Ash, maybe Darkfoot/Blackstripe for the first series villains sidekicks (that is, mixing two villains)! Or you can try mixing heroes & villains, which will give you things like Darkshine/Violettail and Shadowfur/Ashsight!
But maybe you don’t WANT a villain…Maybe you’re looking for a kind, cute character…
Well, if you do not wish for a villain, there are MANY things you can mix!
1: Favorite characters
Let me give ya some examples:
My favorite characters: Tawnypelt, Blossomfall, Russetfur, Breezepelt, Ravenpaw, Dovewing, Ivypool, Shadowsight, Sunbeam, Nightheart, Frostpaw, Crookedstar, Violetshine, Twigbranch, Spotfur (…)
So what do I mix? Well, I can try Shadowsight and Violetshine, maybe? That would give us the names Shadowshine and Violetsight to work with! Shadowshine could be black-and-white (ohhh) and Violetsight could be gray, for example!
2: Least favorite characters
Searching for a cat to hate, hate, hate? Well, let’s go!
I will mix Sandynose and Tangleburr! Actually, no, I don’t like even their names-
So let’s try Thistleclaw and Darkstripe! Thistlestripe and Darkclaw! Wow, those are great!
3: Ships
The name says it. Get, for example, Graystripe and Silverstream? Graystream and Silverstripe. Blossomfall and Thornclaw (I don’t ship it, BTW)? Blossomclaw and Thornfall. Moonflower and Sunstar(fall)? (Hehehe I know it’s not canon but I ship!) Moonfall and Sunflower!
Yeah, it is almost impossible to get bad names when using ships.
4: Siblings
It actually works! Ivypool and Dovewing? Ivywing and Dovepool! Poppyfrost, Cinderheart and Honeyfern? Poppyfern, Cinderfrost and Honeyheart, for example. Dawnpelt, Flametail and Tigerheart? Could be Dawnheart, Flamepelt and Tigertail! Rootspring and Needleclaw? Rootclaw and Needlespring! Mistystar(foot) and Stonefur? Mistyfur and Stonefoot!
Oh, sure, there can be more, as far as your imagination reaches…I hope this article was helpful!
GREAT ARTICLE! This is going to help me in my fanfiction 😀 . Thanks, Skye! <3 (no Blackstar is not a villain XD)
Thanks!
(NO HE IS NOT. BLACKFOOT IS A VILLAIN SIDEKICK HOW MANY TIMES WILL I HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE. BLACKFOOT HELPS TIGERSTAR 1 AND BROKENSTAR. I NEVER SAID THE SAID CREATURE WAS LEADER! xD Did you see a Darkstar? No, you saw a Darkfoot! aNd ThErE iS mUcH dIfFeReNcE.[This was meant as a joke BTW, but no, I did not call Blackstar a villain, I called him a villain sidekick which he is…In the first series, like I said…)
Thank you for reading my article Luna ^^
great article! I use this technique all the time! Very useful tips, Skye!
Thanks! (I suspected you did when there was a Appleshade just above a Mapledusk on the Fading Moon allegiances…)
Hello everyone. For the third-fourth-fifth-… time, I am going to tell you: I did not call Blackstar a villain. So please stop saying “Blackstar is not a villain” and “How dare you call Blackstar a villain”. He was a villain sidekick in the first arc, this isn’t a headcanon, this is about Blackfoot’s Reckoning, Tigerstar’s Fury (I think; haven’t read it) and the whole TPB. For StarClan’s sake, he was Tiger’s and Broken’s deputy and killed Stonefur and Rosetail, and tried to kidnap Thornkit, Brackenkit, Cinderkit and Brightkit. So yeees, he was a villain sidekick…oKaY? (I know most of you meant it slightly joking, though you mean the Blackstar part, you probably did not mean the “how dare you”….I hope…)
Thank you all for reading my article :))))!
Thanks for such a helpful article! I think I’ll try using this technique for my own fan fiction! Yay!
Ooh this is cool! I kinda want to mess up ThunderClan’s allegiances with this…
