Tundrapaw wonders if ThunderClan really is as loyal as everyone makes them out to be.
Hi. Today I decided to check if Thunderclan is actually the loyal clan- after all, that’s the Thunderclan stereotype. So, I am looking at every tpb character to see whether they are disloyal in tpb. Stereotypes often come from first impressions, so let’s see whether this is why Thunderclan is called loyal. If a cat falls in love with a cat from another clan, or they change clans without being forced to, they are counted as disloyal. A cat is counted as a clan cat if they had or have a apprenticeship in a clan. Before we start, I think that Riverclan will be the least loyal and Shadowclan will be the most.
First up, Thunderclan. Graystripe, Darkstripe, Tawnypelt, Tigerstar and Cloudtail (when he ate kittypet food even though Fireheart told him it was wrong) were all disloyal to their clan. There are a total of 37 different Thunderclan cats across the series. (Which is strange, considering that in aVoS, they have like 40 per book.) This works out as 86.5% which are loyal. Which means means that if you grab ten random Thunderclan cats, it is very likely that one of them is disloyal. (One thing to note here though, is that I counted Sorreltail and her brothers even though they didn’t appear in the allegiances. I also included Snowkit, but I didn’t add the unnamed kits in Into the Wild.)
Next, Windclan. Windclan really surprised me, with only one disloyal cat. This isn’t mentioned in tpb, but it happened in that timeframe, so I counted it. Onestar is the cat that stopped his clan from having a perfect score. Still, Windclan got an impressive 92.9% loyalty.
Now, after this, we get Riverclan- the clan who I thought would score the worst. But in tpb timespan, we only have Silverstream. This means that Riverclan pulls ahead, with 94.5%.
And lastly, Shadowclan. I found them hardest to judge. They had 2 possibly disloyal cats. For Brokenstar, I wasn’t sure whether he was delusional or completely aware of his actions, but he clearly wants to kill the clans in OotS, so I marked him down as evil. My other character is Jaggedtooth (Snag), but I don’t see him as a clan cat. First of all, he doesn’t follow my criteria, and I also don’t think he is because of the way he acts. He only thinks for himself, and when he fights, he fights not for who he thinks, is right, but for who he thinks will win. He fights for himself, instead of for justice or for a clan, and that is what makes him such an interesting character. So, anyways, Shadowclan gets 92.7%.
In conclusion, Riverclan should be called the loyal clan, and Thunderclan is actually the most disloyal (unless I messed up my maths). However Riverclan and Windclan all have only one disloyal cat. The only reason Riverclan has won is because it has more cats (Riverclan has 18 and Windclan has 14). Shadowclan scored way lower than I expected, coming second last. I might make some more articles on how loyal cats are in tNP, PoT, OoTS, aVoS, tBC and aSC. Anyways, bye, and may Starclan light your path! (20.10.22)
