Skypaw takes a closer look at Tawnypelt.
Skypaw here just to say that the theories presented are made by me alone and are NOT canon!!
Tawnypelt is one of my favorite characters, but I’ll try not to be biased.
Let’s start off with TPB. Tawnypaw feels misjudged and unfairly mistrusted because of who her father is, and honestly I believe she’s right. Firestar does too (but it was too late…I wanted to slap at Firestar’s face… no offense). Smallear is the one who directly treats her badly: She’s late to help the elders and he snaps at her that Tigerstar also never wanted to help the elders and that he was seeing she was going to end up just like her father. I mean, seriously, SHE WAS JUST LATE ONCE!!! That’s not a reason to go snapping at her and telling her she’d end up exiled and a murderer! How do you think that felt?
But anyway, I forgot to start with her as Tawnykit which is what I’m starting with. So, Goldenflower has Tigerstar’s kits: Bramblekit & Tawnykit. Then Silverstream has Graystripe’s kits, Stormkit and Featherkit. They are fostered by Goldenflower when their mother dies. So here we can see that probably they would share a bond as foster siblings, right? Well, when they come back to ThunderClan as refugees, no one mentions it.
Anyway, now we get into it. Tawnypaw ran away from ThunderClan to join TigerClan, in search for a better judgment. She stays in there and isn’t shown to have a mentor.
!!SKYPAW-HEAD-CANON WARNING!!
I imagine her growing close to Leopardstar, given their similar positions: Both were fooled by Tigerstar into believing him and regret their decision (to join TigerClan, not to join ShadowClan).
!!HEADCANON END!!
(She is apprenticed later to Oakfur, tho.)
Anyway, while she’s there, her foster siblings Featherpaw and Stormpaw are held as prisoners for being half-clan, and I think that must have let her traumatized: Not only her foster siblings being hurt by her father, but the fact that they were being punished for something out of their control, similar to the treatment that led her into leaving ThunderClan. That must have made her think she cannot run away from kin, no matter what she does. Anyway, her father orders Stormpaw and Featherpaw to be killed, due to being “impure”. That must have let her scared as well, given both she and her brother are technically half-clan as well, even tho Tigerstar was in ThunderClan when he had them. Being both on TigerClan, even if for a short period of time, must have improved hers and her foster siblings relationship.
Stonefur ends up sacrificing himself for the apprentices, while Tawnypaw watches. (Must have been pretty hard.) After that, they run away.
Featherpaw, Stormpaw, Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw kill Bone together in the battle against Scourge (along with the other apprentices).
(BTW did I mention her father was killed by Scourge and lost all his nine lives while Tawnypaw watched?)
Now to TNP:
Tawnypaw is named Tawnypelt, Featherpaw is named Feathertail, Bramblepaw is named Brambleclaw and Stormpaw is named Stormfur. (But that happens before TNP.)
Feathertail, Tawnypelt and Brambleclaw are all chosen to lead the Clans to their new home (along with Crowpaw). It’s nice to see them all together again, I honestly think their relationship should be less underrated. But both Squirrelpaw and Stormfur come with them.
There’s that scene when Squirrelpaw gets trapped. Brambleclaw and Stormfur argue over it, and meanwhile Tawnypelt and Feathertail free Squirrelpaw. I like it, it made me feel a bit of foster sisters relationship, even if slightly.
Then there’s Sharptooth.
There’s that Tribe prophecy that “the silver cat will save the Tribe” and everyone thinks the silver cat is Stormfur, tho both Tawnypelt and Feathertail think it’s foolish and that he’ll die. Even so, they come back to help the Tribe. Feathertail sacrifices herself for Crowpaw. And yes, she did die on force of impact, but technically on water (I mean even if she didn’t fall on water her body was left there). So yeah, might be the first death related to water Tawnypelt sees. (Also did I mention her half-brother Swiftpaw was killed by her father? Anyway…) And it’s her foster sister.
When they’re on their way to the lake territories with their Clans, her remaining foster sibling, Stormfur, asks to stay with the Tribe. That’s because he was in love, so I get it, but…No one really focuses on how Tawnypelt must have felt, losing both her foster siblings to the Tribe.
BUUT they haven’t focused on how she felt about her new kin, either.
Well, that’s because there are those two siblings – former rogues – on RiverClan. Their names are Hawkfrost – who wants to be deputy – and Mothwing – who’s a medicine cat -. Well, on the beggining of the journey, Sasha asks them to stay home, and she announces that they are TIGERSTAR’S KITS. Hers and Tigerstar’s. Well that basically means: Tigerstar didn’t only indirectly kill Goldenflower’s son and try to destroy her Clan, but he literally cheated on her…Yes, Tawnypelt said – reasonably – that she hated her father and had been glad he was dead when she’d seen his rule, but it just adds to an already big list! Well, then she discovers soon after losing Stormfur and Feathertail, that she has half-siblings in RiverClan. And her reaction? Who knows…
Well, her father starts calling her in dreams to train with him on the Dark Forest, but she turns him down.
“Fox dung! I’m a loyal ShadowClan cat. If I’m ever made deputy or leader it will be because I have earned it myself—and my Clanmates and StarClan wish it. You’re twisting the warrior code to get what you want, just like you did when you were alive.”
– Tawnypelt to Tigerstar
Well, she discovers Brambleclaw has been training with him, and tells him she thinks he’d make a great leader – without Tigerstar.
Brambleclaw doesn’t listen to her, though…And that almost costed his leader’s life.
Well, first of all, Hawkfrost tries to kick Onestar out of the leader role (alongside Mudfur). He apologizes and says he believed he was following the will of StarClan (Very believable, Hawkfrost. Very believable.)
THEN he tries to kill Firestar. And only fails because Brambleclaw betrays their father. What’s Tawnypelt’s reaction to having her half-brother dead and no one knowing how? Again, it’s never shown.
Rowanclaw accuses her of being disloyal because…Uh, she saved the Clans? Anyway. THEN on Power Of Three they’re MATES. Unbelievable…!
AND THEY HAVE KITS!! She names her kits Dawnkit, Flamekit and… Tigerkit. Probably in hope she’ll make a good fame for the name instead, but…Yeah. He becomes Tigerstar, leader of ShadowClan (*laughs*).
Well, then later on Rowanstar GIVES UP ShadowClan because of Darktail, and it’s understandable, it’s just…She supported him so much and when she’s finally deputy, that’s what she gets. Well, her son has run away with Dovewing and her other kits are dead. So yeah, she basically ONLY had Rowanclaw.
Then Violetshine and Twigbranch have the idea to ask Tawnypelt to lead ShadowClan again, and I’d have loved her to. She starts to take lead – and to apologize to Leafstar about it – and Violetshine thinks they made the right choice multiple times.
Then Rowanclaw sacrifices himself for her.
He’s earned a point as a mate! Finally! But it’s still sad…
Well now she has NO ONE. And she tells Violetshine she cannot lead ShadowClan.
Then she’s told she wasn’t even SUPPOSED to lead ShadowClan, her son comes home dead and gains nine lives.
Well, let me tell you, StarClan:
SHE WAS THE RIGHTFUL LEADER OF SHADOWCLAN!
Why?
See…
-1: She was DEPUTY when Rowanclaw gave up ShadowClan, and also technically deputy when he died!
2: She was CHOSEN to lead ShadowClan, and her Clan itself agreed!
When Pinestar gave up his post as leader, Sunstar assumed. It may be different, but still…Even Rowanclaw said that she had the right because she was his deputy.
Then Tigerheart, who had run away, joins and becomes leader, naming Tawnypelt as deputy.
-Then Tawnypelt STEPS DOWN for a MURDERER to become leader!
I mean, she didn’t know, but it’s frustrating; and when Juniperclaw is exiled, Cloverfoot is the new deputy – not that I don’t like Cloverfoot, she’s nice <3.
Well, anyway, theory time:
Tawnypelt is related to many deaths on water.
-Patchpelt, her mother’s former mate and Swiftpaw’s father, is left dead on water for a short time after the fire.
-Her half-brother, Swiftpaw, dies on the Sunningrocks, which is in the front of a river.
-Her half-brother, Tadpole, drowns.
-Tawnypelt’s foster sister, Feathertail, dies on the water.
-Tawnypelt’s son, Flametail, drowns.
-Tawnypelt’s daughter, Dawnpelt, drowns.
-Tawnypelt’s mate, Rowanclaw, dies on the water.
-Tawnypelt’s son, Tigerstar, almost dies in a pool.
-Tawnypelt’s grandson, Juniperclaw, drowns.
-Bristlefrost sacrifices herself for Tawnypelt’s grandson Shadowsight and drowns.
And that’s all I’ve got for today…
That’s why I REALLY want to buy Tawnypelt’s Clan.
Edit: Now I did. MORE STORMFUR CONTENT COMING ON BLOGCLAN NEAR YOU :DDDD
ALSO edit: Okay I forgave Juniperclaw. He saved Shadowsight. And amazing Violetshine.
SO GOOD SKYE! (You’re Skye, right? If you’re not sorry 😅🥲.) This is amazing. I never thought about it this way, but WOW. You should make a fan fic out of this. <333333
Yes I am Skye xD Hi Luna!
Ty!
Totally has not been planning for a verve long while a Tawnypelt SEGreat article!! This is a cool theory but Swiftpaw died at Snakerocks, not sunningrocks, and that’s nowhere near water. Also Rowanclaw didn’t die on water
Ooops. I should’ve checked; this is old. Sorry :,)
Ty for reading anyways!
Great article! I always liked Tawnypelt, but I never thought of her that way!
Ty!
Wow, I didn’t even think of that! I honestly couldn’t read it all the way through(I have class soon) but the part I did read was awesome! The “deaths on water” part was the most intriguing for me, I think. That is interesting. And Tawnypelt, even though I do love her, HAS TO RETIRE!!! The Erins are making this unrealistic!
Yeeeeah…As much as I want a Tawnystar, she miiight…Be too old…To keep being the amazing warrior she is….
Ty for reading!
Great article!!
Great article!
Great article skypaw! <3
Great article! Tawnypelt would have been a great leader! Tawnystar…
Agreed! And thanks!
Great article!! You made so many good points! But just so you’re aware, it was Mudclaw who was aided by Hawkfrost, not Mudfur. 🙂 It doesn’t really interfere with the meaning, though, as it is easy to guess who you meant 🙂
I wrote it wrong xD Thanks!!
You’re right, and I love this analysis! It would be great to get a Super Edition or novella for Tawnypelt, she’s such a complex character (and her brother has had like… six main books PLUS a novella, she deserves something)
(Oh, yes, Why Bramblestar, Erins?)
I agree! And thanks!
Nice article! I love Tawnypelt!
Great article, Sky! I immensely enjoyed reading this; you both analyzed characteristics of Tawnypelt that I hadn’t ever contemplated prior to reading this, introduced intriguing theories, and genuinely delved deep into Tawnypelt’s traumatic past and closeness to leadership. I agree; Tawnypelt is an amazing character who is completely above Rowanstar, and Feathertail, Stormfur, Brambleclaw, and Tawnypelt’s relationship is wonderful – full of empathy – and one of my favorite not-necessarily-canon ones. (I love the moment when Feathertail and Tawnypelt collaborate to free Squirrelpaw; it’s so awesome! <3) Tawnypelt deserved to be ShadowClan's leader, and she has so many of those necessary qualities. Good job! 🙂
