“Every word was poison, like snake venom dripping into a pool, but it’s helped me understand him.”
Shadowsight about Ashfur, in the Place of No Stars

Hey everyone! It’s Frostpaw/moon here, back with an article on a topic I haven’t seen discussed much, if at all. What I’m talking about is Shadowsight’s life and relationship with Ashfur. I won’t waste any time, now, so I’ll get right in.

Shadowkit was born different. He was born with sudden seizures, followed by warnings of the future as a young child that continued through his medicine cat apprenticeship.
When the clans’s connection with StarClan is broken off, Shadowsight begins to hear a voice giving him instructions on how to save Bramblestar’s life, despite the order being questionable. Pressure is then applied to him immediately as he is believed to be the only connection to their sacred ancestors.
Little does he or anyone around him know, the cat speaking to him is Ashfur, an attempted murderer and evil ghost.
Only after moons did he realise the voice in his head was using and manipulating him, and had been for ages. The voice in his head was the impostor, Ashfur- and, after Ashfur tried to kill him, he became a ghsot and helped free Bramblestar.
Ashfur became a ShadowClan prisoner, and after Ashfur continued to manipulate and use Shadowsight, Shadowsight eventually helped him escape his excecution.
Realising how wrong he had been, Shadowsight helped take down the imposter by dreaming his way into the Dark Forest.
He realised he never had any connection with StarClan whatsoever. All along, Ashfur had been using him for his personal use, as his puppet his whole life.

I believe Shadowsight is a very interesting character- his arc gives us an insight onto something we’ve never seen- manipulation. I believe it has happened before in Warrior Cats, but it’s so interesting to see it from a protagonist.

Shadowsight was lied to for his whole life. He’s such a caring cat- he never yelled, hurt or doubted those that doubted him. He is innocent, and those who are innocent in a world like their’s are taken advantage of.
