Jayfeather: More than just a grump by Flamedove

Flamedove takes a closer look at the ThunderClan medicine cat, Jayfeather.

Hi my name is Flamedove and today I will be talking about Jayfeather, the infamous grump.

So many of you guys have heard or read that Jayfeather is usually always grumpy. Some people have turned it into a meme! Some people make funny videos out of his grouchiness. But I don’t really think anyone has ever wondered WHY our little grouchy grouch is grouchy.

So first, why don’t we have a look at the first book of the power of three, The Sight? In this book, Jaykit has dreams of becoming a warrior. But then, becoming blind basically ruined those chances. Brightheart was his mentor for a bit, but then StarClan interferes and tells him that he HAS to be a Medicine Cat.

Think of it this way. Let’s say you REALLY love drawing, and want to be an artist some day. Then, your dominant hand gets crushed and you try to learn how to draw with your non-dominant hand. Then, someone you look up to tells you that you can no longer draw because it’s your destiny to become an athlete, even though you never wanted to be an athlete.

So Jayfeather’s dreams get crushed and he’s forced to follow an unwanted path. He gets used to it, but then his two siblings got to be warriors while he was a medicine cat. That probably would make him jealous, no? Jayfeather’s life in a nutshell until now. He is forced to do something he doesn’t want to do for the rest of his life while his siblings get to do the thing they want to do. How would you feel, if that happened to you?

Second, finding out he’s half-clan. That probably hit hard, that his parents were criminals, breakers of the warrior code. He probably felt hurt and he would probably even feel sad that his clanmates would never look at him the same again. When he finally forgave Squirrelflight and Leafpool, his sister, who he though was dead but then came back died.

Jayfeather’s life in a nutshell until now: His dreams get crushed as a kid, his siblings get to pursue the dream they want, and then his sister goes missing after revealing that he is halfclan to the entirety of the forest, probably HUMILIATING him, and then she goes missing, then she comes back and then dies.

Wow . . . and then . . . his mother dies too . . .
