Gary Stus and Mary Sues: A Very Complicated Subject by Tater Tot

Tater Tot dives deeper into the Gary Stus and Mary Sues of Warriors and whether or not some characters actually are perfect like many claim.

Hello, fellow BlogClanners! Tater Tot (formerly Serval, formerly Leepish (: ) here with her/their first article, about Gary Stus and Mary Sues. They’re a popular topic, so today I will be adding my opinion to the jumble.
(Remember, this is my opinion, and my opinion only. You may have a different perspective.) To start us off, here’s a thought I had that actually sparked the idea to make an article about this:
If the definition of Mary Sue is a character without flaws, and the definition of a flaw is an undesirable quality, then let’s make a cat named Perfectstar who has no flaws and is the definition of a Mary Sue. Technically, the majority of people would not like Perfectstar for being a Mary Sue, meaning being a Mary Sue is an undesirable quality, or a flaw. And one flaw — one single flaw — means you’re not a Mary Sue anymore. So…is it possible to have Mary Sue characters?
For the purpose of this article, yes, so I will be able to identify characters I define as Mary Sues, or at least are very close to being them, but I hope you think about the thought I just shared.
Anyways, now let’s get to identifying some Warriors characters I believe are, in my opinion, Mary Sues or almost Mary Sues. Let’s start off with a highly debated character. Firestar!!!

So, Firestar doesn’t have too many flaws, in my opinion. Sure, he’s reckless, but that ends up being desirable for the story to flow with him being a disobedient character about to become leader because his recklessness and disobedience ends up helping the Clans. Technically, since our definition of ‘flaw’ is an undesirable quality, Firestar’s qualities never end up hurting the Clans. I’m ending this trial with the output of ‘Yes, Firestar is a Gary Stu!!!’

Now, we’ll examine …………………… (long silence as Tater Tot thinks about any other possibly Mary Sue character in the Warriors series, then goes to Google some ideas) alright, I’ve chosen to look at Feathertail! Thanks to Streampaw for ideas and opinions that I will use in this, but please do not feel offended by anything. So, about Feathertail, she is kind, caring, empathetic and generally without flaws … unless you read Shadow In RiverClan, where we see a new side of Feathertail where she is very mistrustful of her Clanmates, super hostile and has a, what, multiverse-sized grudge on Leopardstar. Besides, she’s pretty disobedient with her forbidden love of Crowfeather, which does nothing to the plot but make it more exciting and stress Leafpool’s love of Crowfeather before she turns away from him, deeming her disobedience not exactly a desirable quality like with Firestar. Besides, what about forbidden love makes you a Mary Sue? Her heroic death was only to add more action in my opinion, and I suppose the Erins had to kill off someone, and chose to do it with Feathertail, who, if she had lived on, might have proven to the world she is more than a Mary Sue (no offense.) Anyways, her heroic death and cheesy StarClan sayings not make her more of a Mary Sue, in my opinion. So, now the Judge has spoken her opinion, and Tater Tot has decided that Feathertail is not a Mary Sue (a lot of thanks to Streampaw, again.)

That’s it for today, Tottie signing out!
