Deftfoot analyses the controversy surrounding Dovewing’s eye colour

Heya, all you cool cats! It’s ya boi Dee here today, and I’m ready to tackle an age-old debate amongst the Warriors fandom.

What. Is. Dovewing’s. Eye color?

Is it…

A. Amber
B. Blue
C. Green

If you answered any of the above, you are CORRECT! Dovewing has, in fact, had all of these eye colors canonically.

Respected veterinarian, Dr. Norette L Underwood says, “Most kittens are born with blue eyes. Between the age of three to eight weeks, kitten’s eyes begin to change to colors ranging from green, yellow, and orange to amber, copper and brown. This color change is usually complete by the time a kitten is three months old.”

Dovewing’s eye color experienced change as she grew older, and she cycled through all of these colors: amber, blue and green. However, according to our reference above, a cats eye color is usually complete once they’ve had considerable time to grow. So, what is Dovewing’s eye color NOW? Well, dear readers, there IS a definite, canonical answer to this. And that answer lies in a novel published long before Dovewing even came on the scene: the Sight.

At the very end of this book, Jayfeather has a vision of the Three. Here’s an excerpt:

“Blood pounded in Jaypaw’s ears. An image scorched his mind: he saw himself beside Lionpaw and Hollypaw, eyes gleaming and pelts rippling with strength.”

Just a plain old vision of the three, standing together in all their glory. Nothing off, right? Actually, there is! Hollypaw is here, and she is NOT one of the three. Now, you could pass this off as a contradiction, but think! What is Hollypaw’s eye color? Green! In this book scene, the vision of the three is explicitly said to be in the dark, which makes it hard to make out the Three distinctly. This is not, in fact, Hollyleaf but Dovewing, proving that her canonical eye color, when fully grown, is green.

Plus, we have, of course, the lovely cover art for the Fourth Apprentice, featured as the cover for this article, which shows Dovewing with green eyes.

Thanks for reading! Nya!~
