[Sol sits down silhouetted against the eclipse]
This is my first post, so enjoy!
Everybody thinks Sol is a bad character – why? Sol did do some things that weren’t the best, which is understandable; stealing Leafstar’s kits, convincing Blackstar that Starclan had no power, and the list goes on. The way Sol uses other cats’ weaknesses to his benefit isn’t exactly great – it actually sucks, but in my opinion, he can’t be all that bad. He speaks his mind, even if his thoughts aren’t cheery.
I hate to say this, but is Starclan any better? At times, Starclan does use the opportunity to manipulate the clans, and while most people would disagree, using their power for themselves is a little bit selfish.
Of course, it’s a crazy difference between Sol and Starclan, said difference being Starclan usually doesn’t intentionally hurt cats while Sol understands what he’s doing.
But, that being said, they are still both bad, and I wish that people could cut Sol some slack, because he IS right, in a way, especially when he points out how the Warrior Code is flawed. For example, the rule about not having more than a friendly relationship with a cat from another clan – that rule was broken many times, which is an immediate red alert that’s not exactly fair
In a way, Sol is a big plot changer for Warrior Cats and a definitely interesting character. One thing I wish that could’ve been added was some character development – he stayed the same conniving evil cat pretty much the whole time – unless, of course, you imagined being in his shoes, or tried comparing him to Starclan, unbiased.
A quick conclusion, as I know that this overview of Sol is pretty wordy. Sol might be an antagonist in the books, and fairly so. But if you look closely, you can tell that some of his points are right, one being that the warrior code can be wrong. And Starclan isn’t great either – one thing people hate about Sol is that he manipulates other cats, but what about Starclan? They may do it unintentionally, but it is what it is. Not to mention how big of a story changer he was. There are both good and wrong sides to Sol, but maybe he isn’t all that bad.
True.
Yet I still hate Sol.
Nice article, after reading this I agree that Sol isn’t really as bad as everyone thinks. Besides, he was abandoned by his mother, for heaven’s sake. That can lead to needing to prove him or herself, and may also lead to bad decisions or choices.
Cool article! Sol is cool 🙂
Great article! I think Sol is a pretty cool villain 🙂 i like how he’s manipulative rather than vicious and brutal
Interesting article!! I do agree that the Warrior code and StarClan is extremely flawed, and Sol was right about that part.
Still hate him. This article went two ways. Otherwise it was awesome! ✌️
I’m afraid I have to disagree with you, Rivercloud. Sol uses his powers of persuasion to harm others who have done no harm to him. That’s pretty bad, IMO. He wasn’t able to do the kind of damage that TIgerstar I, Brokenstar, or Darktail did, but that was his intention. That his mother abandoned him may be a partial explanation, but it is not an excuse.
And sure, the Warrior Code is flawed (it’s just something that cats made up as they went along), but the situation is not improved by abandoning it and turning into a bunch or rogues.
Definitely. For someone so intelligent, he has the choice to be the better person when compared to his mother.
Great article! I think what makes Sol so great is that he’s basically just a manipulative anarchist. I do think he’s a villain, but what makes him so great is that he twists his words so much that he could tell you the sky is actually red and you’d end up believing him
Sol was a very cool villain and he made the books more interesting so I don’t hate him or like him but his mother abandoning him was probably also a factor. I agree that the warrior code and Starclan are both flawed 🙂 Awesome article!
Great article!
