Introducing Calendar Reposts!

Hello hello, and welcome to this post! I’m just here to give you a little run-down of a new idea I had, how it’s going to be implemented and what that will look like for you. 🙂

But before we get to the actual changes, it’s important to me that I give you some background so that you can understand why I’m doing this. This, in my opinion, will help you all to comprehend the decision better so that you don’t (rightfully) feel confusion or even any resentment. 🙂 Of course, I’m probably going to miss something so ask any questions you have in the comments below!

THE BACKSTORY (wow that sounds dramatic)

I’m Aquila, I’m 16 and I’m the current Birthday Tsar for BlogClan. I love my role, I really do. I genuinely enjoy making the posts and it makes my day when the people I’ve written them for see them and are appreciative. However, sometimes there’s a lot of posts, and sometimes, although you don’t see it at all on the face of the Blog, I struggle to write them all behind the scenes on time. This is partly to do with the number of posts and partly to do with me, because I am a large procrastinator. Unfortunately, my procrastinating isn’t something I can really change, however much I’d like to, and so in order to help me make sure I can make everyone an individual post, the thing I’m trying to change is the number of posts I have to write. Additionally, this September I’m starting the IB (international baccalaureate) diploma programme, which means that I will have a lot more work and homework than I ever have had before (since my secondary school didn’t give out much homework at all) and I want to keep being able to write the individual birthday posts for you all, even though I will have a lot less free time in which to do this.

Something which I’ve noticed is that I write a lot of birthday posts, and many of them are never seen by the person they’re designated to simply because that person commented a few times many months ago, submitted their birthday to the calendar, and then moved on. This is fair enough on their part, but it does mean that I spend a fair bit of time writing posts that will never be seen by their recipient. This made me think a few days ago of how I could solve both the issue of me having less time, and also writing posts for inactive members and a thought crossed my mind of the BlogClan allegiances. To declutter the allegiances and so that there aren’t thousands of names of people who no longer visit the Blog, we have allegiances repost months. So why not for the calendar too? Calendar reposts would mean that active members who would see and comment on their birthday post still receive their post like usual, but would also mean that I wouldn’t spend so much time making posts for those who will never see them. To me, with the knowledge that I will have less time, this seemed like a perfect solution.

THE REPOSTS

Going forward, the Birthday Calendar will have 4 repost periods – that is to say, it will be wiped once every 3 months. After the calendar has been wiped, you are all more than welcome to submit your birthday in a form again so that it will be put back on the calendar. This means that at the most, I would be making posts for people who commented a few times and then went inactive 3 months ago, and that is if they submitted their form just after a repost and their birthday was just before the next repost. So roughly that would be writing only about 25% of the posts I currently write for people who have gone inactive before their birthday, which to me seems a lot more manageable.

For the Birthday Calendar, the four times a year the calendar will be wiped will be:

• 1st March
• 1st June
• 1st September
• 1st December

A NOTE ABOUT CLANNIVERSARIES

Hi, everyone!! Lil popping in to just address a little bit of stuff as well 😀

As I am sure you have all noticed, we have not had consistent Clanniversary posts for quite a bit! I will also be following the same format as Aquila in terms of repost months, and hopefully that will solve the problem!! I will be doing a big group “Clanniversary Shoutout” post to cover the past four months, and then I will be starting with a clean slate in September!

FAQ

(aka questions I made up myself that I think I would have if I was reading this)

If my birthday is the 20th September, is there any point in reposting it anytime before the 1st September, as it will just be continually wiped?
Well, I guess that depends on how you see it! Yes, you won’t be made a post during any of the repost periods so there isn’t much point post-wise having it on the calendar. However, you might like it on the calendar anyway so your friends/other BlogClanners can see when your birthday is, so it’s up to you!

My birthday is the 1st September/December/March/June. Will you still make me a post if I submit my form to the calendar on that day?
That depends on if I have time. However, for the first 3 days of the month following the repost, I will still make the posts for anyone who was on the calendar for those days before it was wiped, because that is short notice for you to repost, and for me to make the post. So if you were on the calendar before it was wiped then you’ll be fine. 🙂

I’m not massively active on the Blog but I checked in especially on my birthday to see if I had a post and there wasn’t one.

No. That’s on a separate calendar. However, if the person whose birthday it is for doesn’t resubmit their birthday then it won’t go in a post because there won’t be a post for that person.
