Blossomtail argues why medicine cats deserve more rights in clan life.
Hey everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Blossomtail. I recently wrote an article about some flaws in the warrior code that I felt needed to be changed. I didn’t talk about medicine cats because I have a lot to say about them. Therefore, this article is designed to discuss why they deserve more privileges. It focuses mostly on their love lives and family.
First, I think one of the most important things to talk about is the fact they aren’t allowed to have mates. I remember from previous novels that they aren’t allowed to have mates because it “distracts them from doing their job” and they would “give their mate priority.” However, you could say that about any job in the real world or in warriors. If that is truly the case then couldn’t you say leaders should not be allowed to have mates either? If you were a doctor, nurse, or lawyer in real life, having a relationship would not necessarily “distract you” from your job. You can’t simply control your feelings, and even if you can not have a mate but feel affection towards someone you are still likely to prioritize them. At that point they might as well just be their mate.
This leads me to my next topic of not being allowed to have kits. I believe it was stated that they could not permit this for the same reasons stated above. Once again, this is unjust. You could argue that a leader should not be allowed to have kits because he or she could make them deputy. Which in fact, Firestar did in a way with Bramblestar because he was his son-in-law. Medicine cats deserve to be allowed to have family and loved ones. They aren’t emotionless.
Medicine cats serve the clan in so many ways. They communicate with Starclan, treat others wounds, and always put others first. Not to mention it is a lot of work to become a medicine cat. You have to memorize many different herbs and many different forms of treatments. Medicine cat apprentice’s spend a lot more time training than warrior apprentice’s do.
Thank you for reading this article! I strongly believe in what I have written. If you disagree, let me know why. I am curious to hear others’ points of view!
Great article! I agree!!!
I totally agree! Especially in the case of cats who were forced to become Medicine cats, such as Jayfeather and Cinderpelt. They never made the commitment to never take a mate or have kits, at least not willingly.
Great article! I agree! First!?
oh so true-
Great article, I totally agree!
Great article! I agree!
GREAT ARTICLE MY AMAZING METRO I TOTALLY AGREE
Great article! It was very well-written! Although I do kind of disagree.
Yes, in real life, doctors are allowed to have mates, and sometimes they are sick. Yet the doctor’s mate might even have a different doctor anyways. But in Warriors, sickness and injuries are much more common. I also think that medicine cats shouldn’t have kits at least, because if they have kits, they won’t be able to do their medicine duties for their Clan, and what if they don’t have a medicine apprentice? Or what if the medicine cat dies giving birth?
Also take in consideration their mate or kits dying.
*SPOILERS FOR MOTH FLIGHT’S VISION!*
In Moth Flight’s Vision, when Micah dies, Moth Flight is in so much grief that she stays in ShadowClan for awhile, at least a moon. She was lucky to have Reed Tail as a substitute.
(SPOILER END)
Overall, this was a great article and very, very well-written! 😀
(I know this comment was quite long.)
Mates? No, not in real life😛 but really? Remember Leafpool? She had help, and she managed to train her own son! Who says that a medicine cat has to be distracted?
Oh…that’s true, actually!!!
Great article! I totally agree!!!
Agreed! I always thought this ‘no mates’ rule is unnecessary and unjust.
Great article! i agree, but i think that maybe med cats weren’t allowed to mates because if they had kits and they’re hte only med cat then no one will be able to help that medicine cat and she won’t be able to take care of the clan
Great article, Blossom! I totally agree that medicine cats should definitely be allowed to have mates and kits.
Great article! I completely agree it they should only have kits if they have a fully trained apprentice.
Great article, I completely agree!!! No one can control their emotions so med cats should be allowed to have them as it is a basic right.
