So today I’m doing something a bit different. Today I’m doing an analysis on a character! I didn’t know what character till I spun the wheel.

I thought it was going to be one of my least favorites like Appledusk, but I got Mothwing! She’s one of the best characters! I’m really ready to dive in!

In A Shadow In RiverClan that’s her first appearance, you see more of Hawkkit than Mothkit, but you do figure out that she is a rogue and her father is Tigerstar as Sasha stated.

A little later in TNP, Mothwing teaches Leafpaw how to fish, not to mention Leafpaw is from Thunderclan and Mothwing is from RiverClan and that would be breaking the code. But Mothwing states that medicine cats can break the code (well she didn’t exactly say that).

Mothwing isn’t a very good medicine cat at the beginning but she tries her best to prove herself. Although she doesn’t believe in Starclan, Reedpaw almost died, and she accidentally poisoned the elder’s water, she was just a medicine apprentice and hadn’t fully finished her training.

In defense of Mothwing, Mudfur had died before Mothwing had finished her training. So she didn’t get to learn everything on how to save her clanmates. And it was Hawkfrost’s fault she doesn’t believe in Starclan, and it’s also his fault because she wasn’t supposed to be a medicine cat. As Leafpool finds out. And one of the reasons I love her is that even though Hawkfrost was terrible to her she still grieved him and would forgive him.

Mothwing was an elder for a short period of time, but after an omen she was a medicine cat again. Mothwing soon revealed that she did believe in Starclan but questioned their guidance.

“They’re just dead warriors! Do you think that when they die, they get clever and brave? Don’t you realize that some of them may be as foolish and wrong-headed as they were when they were alive?”
―Mothwing to Jayfeather Night Whispers, page 217

I actually agree with Mothwing. Ashfur went to Starclan and he didn’t change. So dying doesn’t change your intelligence. (That’s the most weird sentence I have ever said)

She was exiled by the imposter for her birth and took refuge in Shadowclan. She became a medicine cat for the rebels. I really like this quote from Mothwing because she isn’t perfect, (no one wants a cat to be perfect), but she is not only forgiving but she apologized. And it was her fault, but no cat is perfect except Firestar (we’ll talk about him later).

“I’m so sorry I was hard on you. I was grieving for my place in RiverClan and needed some cat to blame. And I suppose, in a way, you represented my worst fear-that living cats would go against their own instincts to follow dangerous instructions of some long-dead cat. But Ashfur could have used any cat. It wasn’t your fault he chose you, and I shouldn’t have acted like it was. If he’d chosen me, I might have been fooled too. But I don’t think I would have been brave enough to follow him into the Dark Forest. Even when you were injured, you went back there to help defeat him once and for all. How could any cat be angry with you?”
―Mothwing apologizing to Shadowsight A Light in the Mist (book), pages 320-321

She was soon allowed back into RiverClan once the imposter was defeated. When she came back, she was the mentor of Frostpaw. She took up the leadership of RiverClan once Mistystar, Reedwhisker, and Curlfeather had died.

Mothwing overall did an okay job as a medicine cat, but she was an overall forgiving cat in my opinion. I think she will go to Starclan because she got an omen and listened to it.

Thunder will most likely be published before this article is so there may be some parts I missed. I hope I did a good job! This was a fun article and I didn’t know who I would get! Should I do this again? That’s all I have for now!
