Hiiii everyone :D. Another article here and today I’ll be defending Reedshine. I know I put her in my ‘List of LEAST favourite cats’ but I changed my mind after reading Mapleshade’s Vengeance again. So today I’ll be defending Reedshine, that’s settled! (Btw *SPOILERS* for Mapleshade’s Vengeance so proceed at your own caution!)
Okay so basically… Mapleshade fell in love with Appledusk a RiverClan warrior and had his kits but realised that he was with Reedshine after Mapleshade was banished from ThunderClan and her kits were drowned so she went into a ballistic rage and killed Ravenwing, Frecklewish (Indirect), and Appledusk. Then she was killed, going to the Dark Forest.
Yeah so that’s basically Mapleshade’s Vengeance in two sentences.
Now… onto the actual topic.
So why did I hate Reedshine at first?
Basically since we were seeing it from Mapleshade’s Point of View, it makes Reedshine look like an evil she-cat. But if you look at it from Reedshine’s point of view it’s completely different!
I always thought: ARGHHHH MAPLE WHY DIDN’T YOU KILL REED INSTEAD OF APPLE EVEN IF IT WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Then the next moment my mind was using reasonable thinking: Mapleshade was the crazy one. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mapleshade’s character, BUT no. No killing a cat that has kits. NO. Okay I know that Mapleshade lovers might be hating me right now so uh yeah.
Now second: Why do I support Reedshine?
1- Loyalty
Now I don’t suppose any of you see Reedshine running off with a cat from another Clan and having kits with them, I suppose? And when Appledusk was accused and almost banished, Reedshine stood by him and made some pretty fair points. This is loyalty, not only to her Clan, but her mate as well. (I know she wasn’t his mate yet but quite so so just call her his mate)
2- Courage
Yes this is true. When Mapleshade almost killed her, Appledusk- whatever- and Reedshine was able to kill Mapleshade who is a completely diabolical, crazy cat. Yeah.
Now. I have more points but I’m too lazy to type them down so I’m gonna end here. Bye all!

reedshine is definitely an innocent bystander in mapleshades situation, she had no idea what was happening and she just wanted to be with apple (unaware of his cheating)
Great article! I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Reed who killed Maple. Last time I checked it was Perchpaw who killed her.

I happen to love Mapleshade’s Vengeance, it’s my favorite Warriors side-story by-far and is filled with interesting characters!
Ravenwing, for instance, is one of my favorite Warriors characters (and my favorite medicine cat)!
Anyway, onto Reedshine! I think she’s likeable. It’s definitely not her fault that Appledusk strayed away from their mateship and broke the Warrior code!
I can see why she’s not well-liked by some people in the fandom, being that she’s Mapleshade’s rival for Appledusk’s affections, and arguably the only cat preventing Mapleshade from taking refuge in Riverclan.
(Ex. If Appledusk had not been with Reedshine, he might’ve stood up for Mapleshade instead of leaving her to be cast out by Darkstar.)
But, that’s not her fault. I think the real villain here is Appledusk, Reedshine’s only crime was thinking that her mate would stay faithful to her. 🙁

Great article! I can’t imagine what it was like for Reedshine, finding out that the father of her kits is cheating on her for another she-cat with kits!
I feel so bad for her, like, Mapleshade tried to kill her when Reedshine didn’t even know about Apple dusk and Mapleshade. And then her mate was killed when she was pregnant with his kits. But I gotta say, Mapleshade’s death had to be embarrassing, being killed by an apprentice.

Great article! I have nothing against Reedshine even though I support Mapleshade (that’s a topic for another day). Reedshine had nothing to do with everything that was happening. She was simply an innocent bystander and was unaware of the whole situation.
Reedshine is most definitely not innocent. When you find your mate has been seeing another girl you should be bad at the mate instead of the other women
So she deserves to die? Kind of a weird perspective.
I just came back to look at my old articles, and this doesn’t actually make sense… Basically what you’re saying is: When you find your mate (Appledusk) with another (Reedshine), you should be mad at the mate (Appledusk) instead of the other (Reedshine)? Which is exactly what I’m saying?
