Why are there so many bad names in RiverClan? by Lynxpaw

Lynxpaw wonders what was the reasoning behind some of the names in RiverClan.

Hi! It’s Lynxpaw/claw again with another article. Today I will go through why some RiverClan cats has such weird names. Almost every weird name in Warriors is from RiverClan (I don’t count SkyClan’s warriors with kittypet names). Why did their parents name them that? I got this idea when I was writing an article called “Naming some cats”. Let’s get started!

Crookedstar
Crookedstar was called Stormkit as a kit. But when he fell and hit his jaw, his mother, Rainflower, renamed him Crookedkit and later grew up to become Crookedjaw.

Bluepaw: “Crookedpaw?”
Crookedpaw: “I’m guessing my warrior name will be Crookedjaw. Unless my tail goes the same way. Then Hailstar might have to rethink.”

Reason why Crookedstar got his name: He fell and hit is jaw, so it became crooked. His mother renamed, very unfairly, Crookedkit.

Heavystep
Heavystep was Lilystem’s kit and brother to Shadepelt. Okay, Heavykit? He was heavy…as a kit? What? Lilystem, what were you thinking? But Crookedstar did a pretty good job naming him Heavystep. That prefix and suffix fit well together.

Reason why Heavystep got his name: I have no idea. He was heavy?

Loudbelly
Loudbelly was born to Ottersplash and Timberfur, alongside his littermates Sedgecreek and Reedtail. Yessss… Loudbelly. I think Crookedstar was the one destroying his name this time. Loudkit isn’t that bad, there has been a Quietkit in ShadowClan, but Loudbelly! Err…Crookedstar? What were you thinking? Did you want another cat to suffer from having a bad name? Maybe Loudbelly had a rumbling belly because he was always hungry?

Reason why Loudbelly got his name: I don’t know, Crookedstar maybe wanted someone else to suffer from a bad name? Or, Loudbelly was maybe always hungry?

Sneezecloud
Sneezekit was born to Greymist alongside his brother, Mallownose. Did he sneeze when he just had been born? Did he have a cold as very young? But, did he really need to suffer with that name his whole life? He is never seen sneezing in the books, of what I remember, so he probably sneezed a lot as a kit.

Reason why Sneezecloud got his name:He probably sneezed a lot as a kit, or sneezed when he just had been born.

Tumblekit
Tumblekit was Dawnflower’s kit and her littermates were Minnowtail and Pebblefoot. Minnowkit and Pebblekit are very cute names for kits, and Tumblekit is too. But does a warrior really like to be named Tumblefoot or something? Wouldn’t she get teased as an apprentice, Tumblepaw? It’s a cruel name, and Dawnflower should have thought about it a little more. Maybe Tumblekit tumbled around as a little kit? But still, it’s not nice.

Reason why Tumblekit got her name: She probably tumbled around as a kit, and Dawnflower wasn’t smart enough to think about the consequences with that name.

Okay, that was that article. We have learned that Rainflower, Lilystem, Crookedstar, Greymist and Dawnflower was bad at naming kits. Yes, there are weird names in other Clans, Elderkit, Yellowfang, Foxheart and Hootwhisker, but RiverClan has the most.
