Mothfrost explains how Warrior Cats spoiled a book before it came out.
Note: Major spoiler alerts for Shadow, Thunder, and Wind (ASC #3, #4, #5)
Hello everyone, I’m Mothfrost, here with my first article. I have a question for y’all – Have you read Thunder? If you’re looking at me confused, telling me it hasn’t been released yet, I know, I’m aware. Next question – Do you know what happens in Thunder? If you’re confused again, saying “But how can I know, if it’s not available yet?”, you definitely haven’t read the title of this article. Today, I’m going to tell you all how Warrior Cats just SPOILED an ENTIRE book.
Before I begin, let me introduce my sources: the blurbs of Thunder and Wind from the official website. If you are familiar with the release dates and all, you know that you get blurbs before books, but if you aren’t, let me explain – before a book is released, its blurb is published, then the previous book is released, then the next book’s blurb, and then the actual book. A quick example – before you get book 1, you get blurb 2. Before you get book 2, you get blurb 3. And so on.
Since I have two blurbs, I’m going to divide the rest of the article into two parts, one for each of them.
THE BEGINNING
Our first blurb – Thunder’s – spoils Shadow’s end, as well as Thunder’s beginning (spoiler alert obv). Here you have it:
“TO SAVE HER CLAN’S FUTURE, SHE MUST LOOK TO ITS DISTANT PAST
Frostpaw was told to trust no cat, but a brutal attack has left her gravely injured, and she’ll need to depend on someone. When help arrives in the form of a young warrior, she convinces him to protect her as she follows StarClan’s cryptic directions toward the roots of RiverClan, where Riverstar has promised she’ll find the answers she’s been so desperately seeking.
Back at the lake, the tension between ShadowClan and RiverClan might be easing, but the peace is fragile. Until StarClan’s chosen leader is found, the slightest push could lead the Clans back into outright war.”
Not too bad, is it? Let’s see what we’ve learned. First, we’ve learned the end to our cliffhanger (and also that Shadow ended in a cliffhanger), telling us Frostpaw survived. Next, it tells us that she meets Riverstar, who gives her a quest. Finally, we learn that some young warrior has found Frostpaw, and they are now going together on the quest to ‘RiverClan’s roots’. I mean, it’s not THAT bad. I still don’t know how the book ends, right? Right? About that…
THE REST OF THE BOOK
Our next blurb spoils everything there is left to spoil. Well, kind of. I’ll explain later. This blurb spoils Wind’s beginning, as well as the rest of Thunder. However, before I reveal it, one last warning: RUN! Run away right now and don’t read on until you’ve finished Thunder. This is the last chance I’m giving you. RUN NOW, WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!
3…
2…
1…
You’re still here? You don’t care about spoilers, do you? Anyway, here we go!
“Frostpaw has returned to the lake just in time to reveal all she knows at the Gathering—but the Clans are reluctant to believe an apprentice who’s already admitted to lying about her visions in the past, and she is forced to take refuge in ShadowClan as Splashtail seizes control of her home.
While the other Clan leaders debate whether to interfere any further in RiverClan affairs, Nightheart has his paws full teaching Clan ways to the two park cats who followed him home, and Sunbeam’s efforts to fit in as the newest member of ThunderClan are hampered by her concerns for her mother, who is paying for her treachery with exile and illness.
As Berryheart’s schemes take an alarming new turn—and Splashtail’s ambitions turn toward violence—a few cats’ efforts may not be enough to preserve the peace.”
Wow, that’s A LOT. Let’s list what we’ve just learned.
- Frostpaw has finished her quest.
- Frostpaw has learned something important on said quest.
- Frostpaw is forced to leave RiverClan and joins Shadowclan.
- Nightheart was the young warrior who helped Frostpaw.
- Splashtail takes control over RiverClan (the reason Frostpaw joined ShadowClan)
- Splashtail is evil and violent.
- Berryheart was exiled for her treachery.
- Berryheart is sick.
- Berryheart is still scheming after her exile.
- The quest’s final destination was meeting the park cats.
- They (Frostpaw and Nightheart) bring two park cats back to ThunderClan.
That’s ELEVEN major spoilers from ONE blurb. We know almost everything: we know where Frostpaw and Nightheart are at (⅔ of our protagonists), we know where Splashtail and Berryheart are at (our main villains), and we know where the currently running quest is going. That’s SO MANY SPOILERS. But there still is hope, right? We still have no idea what Sunbeam – our last protagonist – is doing. This book isn’t completely ruined! Or is it… About that, we know what she’s been doing now…
SUNBEAM
I know I said there would only be two more parts, but I really needed another one. The blurb for Wind I showed above is from the official website. However, the one on Edelweiss is a bit different. There, we have one more sentence. If you look at the second paragraph from above, you’ll see it looks like this:
“While the other Clan leaders debate whether to interfere any further in RiverClan affairs, Nightheart has his paws full teaching Clan ways to the two park cats who followed him home, and Sunbeam’s efforts to fit in as the newest member of ThunderClan are hampered by her concerns for her mother, who is paying for her treachery with exile and illness.”
And if you look at the one on Edelweiss, it looks like this:
“While the other Clan leaders debate whether to interfere any further in RiverClan affairs, Nightheart returns to ThunderClan. But what should be a happy reunion is more complicated than he or Sunbeam expected. Nightheart has his paws full teaching Clan ways to the two park cats who followed him home, and Sunbeam’s efforts to fit in as the newest member of ThunderClan are hampered by her concerns for her mother, who is paying for her treachery with exile and illness.”
And so, there goes all hope, crushed down with one last spoiler:
- Night x Sun is unstable.
I, for one, will still buy the book. I will read it despite knowing, well, all this. But PLEASE, and now I’m talking to the Erins, NEVER do this again! We love reading your books, but these spoilers are huge problems. And to you, the person who read this to the end, thank you! I hope you’re having a wonderful day, wherever you are.
Cya all!

Great article! Btw mods there’s no author listed
Fixed!
Great article my BlogSis!
Also first?
Great article! I’ll still buy the book too and I never really thought much about this, so yeah.
Great article! I never really read blurbs until after I’ve read the book, at least in Warriors, because they’re always so short, but it’s amazing how you can get that many spoilers from two blurbs. Wow.
WOW YOU ARE SO SMART
good job!
Excellent article! I really enjoyed your analysis 🙂
