Olivepaw takes another look at Firestar’s daughters.
(WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR YELLOWFANG’S SECRET, LEAFPOOL’S WISH, AND SQUIRRELFLIGHT’S HOPE)
Hello, Blogclanners! Welcome to my second article! This article is so long, that I’m pretty sure it’ll get cut off. So you’re probably reading this title and thinking, Squirrelflight and Leafpool? What else is there to know about them? Well, there is something that I noticed a little bit ago. Who are Squirrelflight and Leafpool? Think about it. What are Squirrelflight’s and Leafpool’s special book’s names? Squirrelflight’s HOPE and Leafpool’s WISH. Who are another pair of sisters with those names? HOPEkit and WISHkit! The more I thought of it, the more it made sense. I’ll be explaining in this article why I think that the sisters are reincarnations of Yellowfang’s dead kits.
For some insight, Hopekit and Wishkit were the kits of Yellowfang and Raggedstar, born alongside their brother, Brokenkit, who later in the series becomes Brokenstar. The sisters died soon after birth and weren’t seen on screen in the series again. Has there been a book where we see Hopekit and Wishkit in StarClan? Even in Squirrelflight’s Hope, when she goes to StarClan temporarily, she sees her kits, Dandelionkit and Juniperkit playing with some other passed kits, but are Hopekit and Wishkit among them? Nope! They are nowhere to be found in the series after, Squirrelflight and Leafpool were born!
Another bit of reasoning I have relates to the Prophecy of the Three. Leafpool is the mother of the Three, but WHY? In Squirrelflight’s Hope, Moth Flight says that STARCLAN chose who the Three were. I believe that Yellowfang wanted the Three to be the children of her kits, so she could feel more important, I guess? I don’t know, there’s no telling with Yellowfang. She wants them to be known as the kits of her kits SO BAD that she makes Squirrelflight take them by making her believe that she won’t ever have the chance to have kits again in Leafpool’s Wish. I find it funny that the books I find evidence in are the books that gave me the name idea of the reincarnation theory. So instead of having Leafpool give her kits to Ferncloud or Daisy to adopt, saying that they were found abandoned in the forest, Squirrelflight takes them in as her own.
One more bit of evidence. Remember the reason that Yellowfang had to become a medicine cat in the first place? She wanted to be a warrior, but Sagewhisker told her that she had to be a medicine cat because she had a power! It could be considered a curse, but it could be helpful to know who isn’t feeling well, so I consider it a power. Who else has a power? SQUIRRELFLIGHT and LEAPOOL! They could telepathically communicate! What’s more is that their power was only there for a little bit of time, JUST LIKE YELLOWFANG’S! This could just be plot and character inconsistency, but I choose to believe that it is a part of my theory. And StarClan gave them powers because Yellowfang wanted them to, and so it could feel like it runs in the family? Think about it, the Three’s power ALSO only lasted for a little while. This further explains my theory.
So, how does this fit into the plot of the story? Well, this is what I think happened. Cinderpelt broke her leg. StarClan doesn’t like this because she is “destined” to become a warrior. StarClan wants to fix this but doesn’t know how. They think about this for a while, until Yellowfang suggests reincarnation. They want to plant a dead warrior’s soul into a living kit’s body. Yellowfang suggests that they try it with her dead daughters because she wants them to have another life, and since she suggested reincarnation. She doesn’t know who to plant it in, until she notices that Sandstorm is pregnant with Firestar’s kits, and thinks, Bingo! So moments before they are born, Hopekit and Wishkit’s souls are in Squirrelflight and Leafpool’s bodies. StarClan sees that it works out and looks for a host for Cinderpelt’s body (planting? Hosts? StarClan sure is doing some weird stuff up there). They want it to be kits of someone that Cinderpelt knows well, so they choose her brother, Brackenfur. Except, when they put Cinderpelt into Cinderheart’s body, they did it too late. Cinderheart already had a soul and now she had TWO souls in her body. StarClan whistled around the whole thing and hoped it wouldn’t show until it did, after Cinderheart had all of Cinderpelt’s memories, forcing her out of Cinderheart’s body. After that, StarClan decides not to reincarnate anyone else for fear that they will get another Cinderpelt/Cinderheart dilemma.
So, this has been me filling in plot holes and using my left-sided brain to make sense of all this. Comment what you think of this, and if you’ve had any theories of this and ideas like this. Bye, have a nice rest of your day, and thank you for taking the time to read this article! Olivepaw, out!
Wow, interesting! I never thought of that! Great article!

Intresting! I neever thoguht of it like that!
Ummm ….. Maybe Squirrelflight didn’t see Hope and Wish cause they weren’t really too important to her?
Cool! I never really thought about Hopekit and Wishkit again, but it makes sense.
Ok, First. Great article. Second, One of either Wishkit or Hopekit is seen giving Brokenstar one of his Nine lives.
